NOW AND THEN

Nothing has
changed in
Times Square.

Still bustling
for cabs
or hustling
the pedestrians.

One day a dragon set out in flight; Up towards New York, he did alight. Landing in the middle of Times Square; He quickly did become aware; That some people he had scared; Now his tail’s a tire tracked sight!

A Legacy In Brief
The media is brimming with reports
about the legacy of Barack Obama.

He’s accomplished so much
it’s tough for experts to name
his signature achievement.

The 2016 election said it in neon
blinking in Times Square: Trump!

Didactic Time
I lose track of time and
I lose track of myself. In
the crowded streets I
constantly check my watch
to ground myself in reality.

I jostle my way through the
crowd and find my watch
missing. I panic and hail
a cab. I leave it all behind
in didactic Times Square....

Times Square
Intersects the television screen.
At the crescendo of the scene
A starlet sings a melancholy song,
Hiding in a costume that disguises
The method she employs
To hypnotize the audience.

Time
Time

Times Square is full tonight.
Time's final trimester
Tips on the verge of
Today, yesterday, and
Tomorrow, as Father
Time's temp'ral tradition
Toasts--MIDNIGHT--New Years' Eve!

Fisticuffs
The crowd broke into fisticuffs -
I heard it on the news -
For Middle Eastern politics
Engenders different views.

It happened in Times Square
Where brawlers gathered for a fight.
Pro-Israel or Pro-Palestine,
Each sure their side was right.

Such protests do not shock me -
All my life such things I’ve heard.
But fisticuffs? What did surprise
Was that old-fashioned word....

I Know Math Therefore I Am
You think your smart
but I’m smarter too.
You think your bright
but vision lacks within your sight.
Why say these things do I?
Because brighter smarter, I can sigh.
Dare not indignant ask me why.

Answer quick, I know
the means times square and pie
declare you to I.

These numbers smart do not make you.

Stunned and shocked to reevaluate and ask I am who?
If not a number calculator my self I find is not true....

The Eve
The Eve

On this night a ball falls down from heights seen in the sky

It’s not amongst the heavens
In the midst of silent gray

It falls upon bricks and steel
A second in time awaits

A worldly gasp to yet unfold thoughts of yester years

The stalling seconds of frosted breath an ode to end the day

A wish upon a falling star a kiss to lead the way

A tear A tear...

A languishing yet hurried hope
for a blessed and brand new year!...

Hands holding champagne
Allowing all wishes to sparkle
People dancing under Mylar balloons
Pop corn with sweet caramel
Yankees caps with silver trim
Nobody dislikes silly buffoons
Everyone can be one of them
With the New Year's party colorful hats
Yell and be extravagantly festive
Ears deafened by loud music
America celebrates in Times Square
Rome calls for peace everywhere

Life Without
As the sun sets, nature turns in for bed
Scarlet skies take over the clouds that led
Gulls take one more sail, swans turn for home
Sort of like Times Square but under a larger dome

Sunlight at dawn draws forth the sleepers
New day springs for all, nature is the mother’s keeper
Moon shadows watch over all life below
Mother’s nest is generous you know
Astonishing and pleasurable to the variety of birds in our spectrum
If life was left without there’d be just the wind to hear...

Premium Member Grizzy Bear In the Middle of Times Square
No one notices any other in the middle of times square
This was told to me by my cousins Tommy, Lee and Lair.
I bet if I sent out an enormous suited up grizzly bear
They would scream and run and yell, not simply stare.

So we found a willing grizzly bear and offered him sticky honey.
He loved the idea of this sweet treat much more than blah money.
Hundreds of New Yorkers marched past him not noticing him at all.
For the first time, the bear said, I felt tiny, ignored and kind of small....

A New Yorker's View of Times Square
Times Square is better than it was
But still in every crowd
The poor and homeless fill the streets;
It's dirty and it's loud.

I wonder what the tourists think
And if the mayor's blamed.
When I am there I look around
And mainly feel ashamed.

Of course the lights of Broadway
Give the area some glitz
But all the hype of glamour
Somehow just no longer fits.

The shows are still quite fabulous
Despite the vibe of sleaze.
I guess all cities share this truth
To varying degrees....
