eclipsed by a finger
inflicting nothing of the first
second or third degree
still freedom's flame burns
whether I stand
or take a knee

Premium Member Jack WAS Nimble

Jack was nimble...
Jack was quick...
Jack once jumped over a candlestick.

But time flies,
and the world turns.
What an embarrassing place for third degree burns.

Scars

Scars
They’re all I have
Like a third-degree burn to the soul
Visible on the outside
But worse, deep within
My scars they have a story
One I’ll be able to tell
When my healing begins

Believe It

Believe It

I’m not gonna
Let it get to me
If you want to go out
And act crazy

I’m not gonna
Give you the third degree
Do what you want
Just do it without me

I’m not gonna
Be in your life
Take it or leave it
Better believe it

What Is Her Deal

sitting wondering
what´s her deal
is she for real
what does she
want from me
what´s up with
the third degree
you do not know
me
stop judging me
who made you
judge and jury
just back off
leave me alone
just sit there
and ignore me
like normal

Third degree burns? I just get hot;
Finally, deep enough to wound;
Painful skin grafts can't get a shot,
to my frequency you were tuned;
Beneath the surface desire crooned,
I'll be your willing apprentice;
Eyes flashing 'Danger' I just swooned,
thriving in a consuming kiss.

Third Degree Burn

sunglasses protect deep green eyes
an Aer Lingus cap protects a fair, Irish nose
SPF 50, slathered generously, protects my skin
from the sun’s bright, harmful rays

my heart, protected by the strong bones of the chest wall,
layers of dermis, and by my swimsuit top
blisters with a third degree burn

My boiling point’s hit third degree;
‘Lying swathed in euphoric slick.’
Your lyrics demand a reply;
What’s up with no resolution?

Left an out of sync melody,
finish every strum that you pick;
I am aware your humor’s wry,
but so is my ammunition;

I’m what you need to amplify,
don’t you dare mistreat my passion.

Santa went down a chimney in Twin Creeks
Now sadly he can't sit down for two weeks
Because what he didn't know
Was the embers were aglow
Giving him third degree burns on both cheeks.

Snuff

(This is a fictional poem)

You cussed me out and that was pretty rough.
You did it because you saw me use some snuff.
You made me eat the snuff because you're a brute.
But I got even when I puked on your Armani suit.
I get abused even though you smoke cigarettes and now it's your turn.
I'm going to stick a lit cigarette up your butt and give you a third degree burn.

Premium Member Green Grass Dream

Why are you going up that hill?
That question asked to me

I’m looking for the Green Grass Dream

Why are you sitting there so still?
Queried a busy bee

I’m looking for the Green Grass Dream

Why are you looking, what is that dream?
As I got the third degree

There’s a place inside of all of us
Where contentment and love redeem
I really need to find it
I call it my Green Grass Dream

In Love With a Rolls-Royce

(This is a fictional poem)

A man fell in love with his brand new Rolls-Royce.
But he soon made a very bad choice.
He thought kissing a car would be the same as kissing a woman but he soon
learned it was not.
He french kissed the tailpipe right after driving his Rolls and a third degree burn
was what he got.
It hurt so much that it reduced this idiot to tears.
His mouth got burned so bad that he couldn't taste for an entire year.

The roadside IED was a major insult.
Third degree covers 93 percent.
He’s not the same as before.
Skin leathery, dry, waxy,
Pearly gray and charred.
Underlying fat and muscle exposed.
Ears gone.
Fingers gone.
Manhood gone.
If he still had lips,
He might pronounce the words,
“Please pray for me,”
But he’d never complain or lay blame.
I’ll be the one to do that.
Let the shame be on you, America.
He deserved better than this.

Tortured

(Warning:This fictional poem is gruesome.)

I begged for mercy but they ignored my plea.
They took me to their house and tortured me.
They gave me third degree burns with a blow torch.
Over ninety percent of my body is scorched.

They cut off my fingers one by one.
I wanted to be dead by the time they were done.
When the sunrises in a couple of hours, I may no longer be alive.
That's okay by me because life might not be worth living if I survive.

Premium Member Seeing Dragonflies

sun has baked the metal arm of this chair
I may have a third degree burn now
it is easy to ignore the pain
vitamin D uplifts and refreshes me

a dragonfly daintily flies toward me
is that a locust? no another dragonfly
I sit on this sun porch soaking up rays
it is a calm hot August day

I spy three more dragonflies
for the first time realize how colorful my shirt is
oranges, turquoise, blues, purples and pinks
they probably think I am a giant flower

Black Lives Matter

I can’t BREATHE, why are you on ME?
I can’t BREATHE, I’m losing oxygen as you can SEE

I can’t BREATHE, you’re taking life from ME
I can’t BREATHE, you’re doing it with one KNEE

I can’t BREATHE, why is this happening to ME
I can’t BREATHE, all you did was STARE; referencing the other THREE

I can’t BREATHE, somebody please set me FREE
I can’t BREATHE, he’s not answering my PLEA

I can’t BREATHE, I’m not trying to FLEE
I can’t BREATHE, all he got was murder in the third DEGREE
