Melted skulls and sagging sails:
what growing old with tats entails.
Few give pause to stop and think
how time’s patina colors ink.

A Poem About Mitch's Cat
Mitch has cats.
And lots of tats.
He sleeps on a mat
On the floor where it's flat.
They got bit by gnats
And then his cat spat.
He sat on that cat.
The cat likes pats
And he's very fat....

non-stop rat-a-tats
moving targets drop like flies ~
blood-soaked western front

a fierce, friendly fire
soldier retrieves dead comrade ~
own life hangs by thread...

February Feints

February creeps across the mud
chuckling
knowing it is not her milieu
snickering
as she tats snowflakes
whistling
as she scatters them
icily
on freshly chilled winds.

Tats
With a tattoo of Dallas on one breast
She decided she wanted another
After a while she made a decision
To get a tattoo of Paris on the other!

A few weeks later at the Mardi gras
With no help from panels or committees
She decided to rip off her blouse
And show everybody her cities!...

One and Only
Truth is lie.
Vice versa.
Versa vice.
The dichotomy divine.
A lie tats always true,
a truth that always lies.
The simple and complicated,
one and only,
undeniable rule of life.
Just as opposites can't exist apart.
We are only who we are,
if we are who we aren't.
Divine dichotomy.
Divine, divine, divine!...

Rain
I can smell the sulpher
electricity in the air
rain rat-a-tats on my roof
a welcome sound to hear

we sit on the screened porch
as the raindrops trickle down
lightning across the sky
thunder crashes in the clouds

I love this time of year
the monsoons a soothing sound
saguaro drinking in moisture
my plants happy in the ground

it will rain all night
a red dawn will appear
freshness in the morning
when the monsoon has disappeared...

First sight of fallen white virgin snow
Tats lace patterns on window panes
Grandma's breakfast stirs the house.
Wood burning flames chatter
In the old fireplace.
Festive winter
Children take
In its
Lace.
Charm
World cloak
In loose flakes.
Tinsel snowman,
Red Birds rustle the
Winter evergreens, and
Denuded trees by the front
Open porch greeting passersby.
Sun melts deep, shadows seize a cold night.
