Crescent moon inching
across a crisp morning sky
dipping horizon
cautious, it eludes fingers
of spindly, reaching branches

Are these hands not as delicately bred

the albatross of hope
has begun his descent
wings of regret
blocking warm sun
fragile dreamsaplings
doubled over in spindly lament
windswept harvest fields
empty, quiet
stagnant ponds of self-loathe
give no reflection

The tiniest microbes do the greatest harm
some with spindly legs
some with toothpick arms
They fell powerlifting champions
take down mighty oaks
Fools dismiss 'germs' as a hoax
Wise men aware they might croak

Spindly elbows skew
Laurie rides his rusty steed —
Owl eyes sparkle blue.
Blue-bottomed bees buzz
Through dappled dims, garden green —
Whispered perfume haze.
Twilight windows glow
Wispy wings are glass-dancing —
Gecko chuck chuck goes.

Young Kevin had spindly knock knees.
He got in every place with ease.
The knocking made such racket,
that people were ecstatic,
to open up, so his knees would cease!

Make Sure Seat Reserved
For skies to be friendly,
Should be old and spindly;
One day body is preserved,
So make sure seat is reserved;
Or friendly, sky may not find to be.
That guy was 69 years old.
Will the case rest after his
head hit the head rest?

Limerick
In the space between wall and door
The frogs grin
Paper death masks and spindly, clutching fingers
Jarring trespassers with their menacing absurdity
On the doorstep
The verge of confession, keyhole whispers
I stroke the tiny corpses
Defiance taut against my fingertips
I shall never die

I spend my time, staring at the sky
jealous of those trees that can reach such great heights
I see their spindly branches winding out into the atmosphere
I feel the heaviness in my limbs
Aren't we both reaching out for you
Grieving my inadequacy
While I stand here with my empty arms outstretched

Fool of jesters
jester of fools
performs for fat
spindly legged kings
who slap their sides
in glee of his merriment
as around the court
he dances in his
three cornered hat
and turned up shoes
which jingle with
tiny bells as
with gaiety he
plays his mandolin
and sings of
the indiscretions
of lords and ladies..

Narrative
No one else is prepared.
To be a person who’s luck is never spared.
They let me live, but not so kindly.
Hate lives here, long and spindly.
But even so, I’d never switch-
My life with someone who has never been bewitched.
I’ve learned to abide, and let them trodden.
On all my hope, which they say is sodden.

Christmas tidings boldly blare
Limp hands raise; taut lips flare
Minstrels and accordions pair
Rite, decorum forthrightly pare
Songs, instruments roundly declare
Strum the harp 'till spindly strings wear
Clang the cymbals revelry to share
Ring the bells no mirth we'll spare
Sing the melody a heartier fare
Loud your anthems fill the air

it’s colder now
much colder
ice clings to a welcome
few accept
the old couple
is absent
as are their family
of squirrels
a chilled sun peeks
through spindly branches
mocked by icy chimes
a distant church bell weeps
its tone muffled by the snow
it’s colder now
more from emptiness
than frost

A spindly girl one far-off year
With both knees scabbed and flouncing skirt,
She kicked the ball and ran to first
And I felt glad to watch her sprint
Or catch her smile, just hear her laugh,
And when she neared, my heart, it raced,
My throat went tight and head grew light,
My first true clue that life’s pursuit
Is winning love and female grace.

Blank verse
A chill in the air
ignites my dry bones
washing over with sweetness.
I inhale, consumed with an appetite
assuaged only with the kiss of hiemal night.
Branches spindly, frigid, and gaunt
strike at the grey darkened sky,
while a cool mist blankets the ground.
Crystalline prisms dance through the air
as I take in the gentle crisp silence of Winter.

My Shiny Beetle
I found a shiny beetle,
I call him Glitterbug Jim.
He’s dead and I’m heartbroken
So I’m going to immortalise him.
I’ll wrap him round in resin
So all the world can see
His spindly legs and shiny bot
For all Eternity.
Yes, I’ll wrap him round in resin
And write a mournful verse
So he can rest forever
In his little resin hearse.

If it wasn't for winter,
Who would see
The branches of a naked tree?
Yes, we mourn
Bright this
And Pretty that,
Yet look at the show the branches
Put On:
Spindly fingers brushing the sky,
Some,
Straight up in a pert salute
To the heavens,
Some, wildly white,
Adamant
Against a dark gray sky.
It's their time to shout their glory:
All we have to do is notice.

Swaddled
in an Afghan
woven by my step grandmother's
thin spindly fingers,
I am
warmer than the womb
then the
pale yellow grey
wall paper
that
seems to surround
and wobble
like the water globe
on my dresser.
Above,
I see
my mothers face,
round,
soft,
tallow cheeks,
I want to squeeze them
pull the rosiness,
into my small palms
and eat it up.

The sky was blue today.
Sun light glinted on my eye lids and bare stretching branches.
Along the railway embankment, though it is early spring,
the spindly matted trees, silhouetted against the cloudless sky,
glistened a golden russet red.
Melodious song rung out from the hedgerows and,
as I walked,
the wind caressed my face.
Today the sky was blue and nature held my heavy heart
in her tender warm embrace.

Spiders legs spindly thin,
Creeping, crawling,then rushing in.
Darting quickly across the floor,
Legs on seats, screams galore.
The brave one goes to get the jar,
Others watch from where they are.
Now in prison made of glass,
Around the room it did pass.
Now it's time to release our prey,
Been in prison most of the day.
Now all night long we sit and stare,
Is that another over there.

The leaves begin to change their hue and fall,
The tree's look like skeletons all spindly and tall.
We run through the piled leaves, kicking them up like a cloud,
The chidren all excited yelling out so loud.
The ancient gnarly oak looks as if it only has one leaf left,
All solitary and lonely looking all bereft.
Then the softest gust of breeze finally brings it fluttering down,
The tree is finally naked without it's green leafy gown.

A big old oak tree we fondly call
"The old man" stands in our backyard.
He watches over us and all we do,
a hundred years he's been standing guard.
Like tears his leaves begin to fall,
they start to cover the ground.
The old man softly cries, winter,
his tears fall all around.
He has no more tears left to shed and
"The old man" looks sad standing there.
His outstretched branches are like spindly
fingers of limbs that now are so bare.
