Southern Cross
A young kangaroo pickpocket
Got nabbed when she tried to hock it
But Joey saw
Sex in the raw
And damned if he did not cock it!...

The Eureka Stockade
The Bard stopped at Footscray
on the road to Ballarat
he was researching The Eureka Stockade
not Romeo and Juliet
he imagined the miners
manning the barricades
police bullets flying
hoisting The Southern Cross
and dying....

Summer Night In Australia
No coolin’ breeze in the summer night
Northerlies blow the dusty blight

A full moon shines on the red dusty ground
No cloud to block the stars shinin’ down

You can smell the wild oat grass as you ride on by
The Southern Cross lords above in the open sky.

Australia Day 2018
Australia is for freedom
And a chance to live in peace
We stand shoulder to shoulder together
And not for giving grief
For we are daughters and sons
Under the Southern Cross
Inheritors of ANZAC
Proud and true knowing what it cost
Australia you bloody beauty!!

After Midnight
Branches are silent at this late hour
I raise my glass, say cheers to my mirror-image
I drink my beer and look up to the moon,
which leaves a whitish shimmer on the leaves.
My mind is drifting to the past,
to far away countries and to friends,
to different stars, the Southern Cross,
to southern skies, to southern life...

Passion Flower
Dark eyes
       Shine
  In the evening
Stars overhead twinkle
            In their constellations
The Syckle, Great Bear
                                         And Southern Cross
Light up the sky
On Earth she waits
For her love
    In a little while
               Flames of passion
Will
     Heat up the night
On the breeze
A kiss is floating...

Casualty Lists
It was 35 Diggers dead each day
Of the Great War for they volunteered to stay
Mounting a total to 60,000 the cost
Each one a son or daughter of the Southern Cross lost

From a country of five million souls strong
416,809 enlisted to the battle front long
And lastly 156,000 became casualties
For us, for freedom the sacrifice was not free.

Follow the albatross Without flap of wing The wind, he rides Feather for hoof Stars as his roof Effortlessly, he glides Master of the trade winds Southern Cross as his guide To where new days are born Below the Tropic of Capricorn Beyond the dragon's teeth of the Great Barrier Reef The Queen rules alone On her desolate throne Tara

Under the Southern Cross
Rusty old tracks stretching across the Outback
The wind sings a song of strong hearts on the track
When distance was conquered by pioneers
As they toiled and died in long lonely years

Now it’s dust and heat shimmering through
As rusty iron tells their story too
And we who inherit their pioneer part
Stand tall under our Southern Cross heart.

Albatross
Night and day,
the wings ache
This wind,
keeps him awake

I see you there,
cruising the sea air
This long wing,
comforting

Night and day
Many miles covered
Flight astray
Many seas discovered

Albatross
Southern seas
Southern cross
Antartic freeze

This wing
Home it will bring
Albatross
Southern cross

Night skies
Southern stars
Albatross flies...

Returning
Returning,
We came into this lifetime,
Just another long hallway of learning.....
Yet this time
I saw the Southern cross,
Lying on my back
In the midnight hour
On a wooden ship of dreams,
Carried off
Into the trade winds
Like a rogue eagle with a wingspan
As big as the universe
Across the pacific....
Unraveling
The tight strings of a heart
That chipped the
Iceberg
Of a loving intention....

Southern Land
There’s a place in my heart
Where the sun plays its part
And the kookaburras sings
To greet a sunrise that brings
Another beautiful day by
The great southern sky

So when the day is finally done
And the darkness has won
The pastels herald the chandelier above
Heralding the Southern Cross that we love
And from the cool of the evening air
The koalas emus and roos emerge there.

Premium Member The Clearing
Stumbling through midnight blackness,
with every step and thought,
trepidation is my only companion
on a streambed's bank - unsteady
where pain and serpents wait,
an unwelcome visitation.
They fear as we, this intrusion
         of peace.

Do hopes dissolve here where
loneliness feasts on sanity!
I wish not to disturb these
   denizens of my dreams.

Rather, I will glimpse
the Southern Cross in
one brief moment of clarity
and...find my way home....

Southern Cross
The night veiled in black crept over the sun dying in the West.
Enjoy strained on anchor as she pointed into the wind
There my love and I lay on deck waiting the symphony of the star shrouded night .
I pointed ,there look my dear see it , see it so clear . The Southern cross there she be like a portal to eternity.
So perfect was the moment and how much we silently wanted this moment to last but in silence we knew this too will pass.
But for that moment all was sublime...

Paean On a Cute Antipodean
Skype tells me it’s your birthday, Polly Ross,
a disembodied message from the ether
that nipped me like a redback. “Southern Cross” –
remember that? So, hurl it in my teeth, or
delete me, tweet me, blank me, come across –
do what you will, I’m living with the loss.
You probably no longer give a toss.
If only I’d a cooler glamour-gloss,
could be more Aussie actor (Meller? Heather?)
you’d see the gold, and set aside the dross.
I miss you, need you. There. But you’re the boss …...
