Pregnant Purple Seahorses
How bizarre
They are
In their underwater
Paradise

Gardens of coral and sea-plants,
Ever green,

Pregnant with billions
Of babies
Waiting

To meet their purple dad....

Seahorses
Intertwining tails
Daily pre-dawn dances
This is how the seahorses
Practice their romances.

The males have a pouch-
Now isn't that sublime?!
Gives birth to many babies
Two thousand at a time !!...

My Seahorse Brenda
My pet seahorse Brenda was blond,
She loved a poor fish in the pond;
He was not aware of this,
And so he took her amiss,
When in his big tummy she spawned.

Ocean Highways
The ocean is a highway
to be traveled far and wide,
you can travel it alone
or with loved ones by your side.

The ocean is a vast liquid world
filled with life unseen,
fish and whales and seahorses
swim beneath boats and submarines....

Seawater swimming
Endangered
And fast moving
Horse-like fish of the sea
Orange, blue and red too
Ride in herds
Spectacular
Elevated neck, of course
Seahorses

Premium Member Seahorses In My Sauerkraut
Seahorses in my sauerkraut
And no apologies or explanation.
I watched them cavort for a bit
Then I turned to the raccoons sliding down my plate
and I asked them what was happening.
As if we would know? One mouthed back.
Better ask the Ketchup.
The Ketchup speaks English?
Strangest breakfast yet....

I need a chameleon’s eyes if you ask me
so I can see in both directions simultaneously
you say seahorses can do this too?
Who knew? who Knew?
now I have a choice to make.
little at stake, my mind on bake.
chameleon or seahorse? Which one to be?
chameleon, who can turn colors you see.
an artist like me, an artist like me....

One little jellyfish swam quite free
Swishing and gurgling capriciously
With the hiccups it seems
Propelling his jet streams
Back and forth simultaneously

Two tiny seahorses swam in place
Gawking at jellyfish face to face
One said "NO!" does he know
There's a shark at his toe
Ready to gobble him for a taste!

Premium Member Which Are the Silliest
Which are the silliest?
Seahorses or horses that see?
Which hops faster?
A grasshopper or a hopper full of grass?
Which would be more interesting to invite to tea?
A lady bug
or a lady that bugs?
Would you rather marry a praying mantis,
or a mantis, praying?
That last part is a tricky subtle gender
issue that relates only to praying mantises....

Jewels of the Ocean
Among the seagrass, slow they canter

Darling steeds of the sea,

Days spent anchored to a frond

Or currents shape their destiny.

Gentle creatures, captivating

Hypnotic in their motion.

Seahorses, they hold us rapt

Little jewels, of the ocean.

Premium Member I Want to Be a Snail
King and queen of the seahorses met one day.
He showed off his mane, she twisted her tail.
We are royalty, the king said, so hey! hey! hey!
Fine for you said the queen, but I want to be a snail.

Why? Asked the king. Have we not been kind?
She had been brought from the Sea of the Mind.
You are great, but I think snails have pearls right?
That is a clam, he said. Was she not bright?...

Premium Member Seahorses
Swimming side by side in unison among red coral,
Entwining occasionally in their colourful pre-dawn dance,
A pair of small creatures resembling
Horses of the sea
Or perhaps Pegasuses - with pectoral fins
Rapidly fluttering like hummingbird wings -
Swirl and sometimes touch snouts, as if kissing.
Ending their ritual, the female
Spirals up out of seagrass, leaving her mate impregnated.

Premium Member We Love Zoomorphism
Zoomorphism is alive and well here.
Fish, cat, lamb, rog, and unruly reindeer
Dwell in my home, smiling from walls that are peeling.
If we could figure out how, they would be attached to the ceiling.
We have lizards, seahorses, and dolphins decorating our bath.
We would be plumb full if I cut these treasures in half.
Oh, yes, zoomorphism reigns supreme in my house and my beautiful yard.
Bumper stickers, clothing, dog’s sweater, and my new calling card....

Hypnotising Harm
Navigating center
my sail in the wind
waves pulsing by
only left to rescind

Discovering land
rich and bare
feet on the sand
sun stripping cares

Heating the skin
warmth can trace
Lillie’s and roses
all over my face

Tide creeping in
laps at my feet
slowly it rises
till we both meet

Seahorses twirling
around the seabed
seagulls are laughing
their wings outspread

Carried away
on a swell of joy
embracing the peace
pain cannot destroy...

Something Fishy
No wish to carp or cock a snook I won't leave you in the lurch but oh my cod take a look what a plaice to perch as just for the halibut putting seahorses out to paddock is enough to give one a severe bad haddock so no red herring I don't flounder around take a peeled eel flake of baked hake plus pinch of pickled pilchard and an ichthyic sandwich make but if my words are vitriolic you may grunt and kiss my bass it's all a load of pollock(s)
