Perched, waiting, still
He swoops with swift precision
Red tail fanned in flight
His cry announcing intent
See the beauty in this flight......

Dawn debuted stealthily,
as a breeze rustling through cat-tails;
But time, toted in its attache case,
the not-looked for;
Soon circumstances of the day
were screeching like a Red Tailed Hawk
with eyes set on a field mouse....

a red-tailed hawk

swoops down to snatch its prey --

                                                          a tiny dog barks.

Above the Tree Line
Somewhere West of where he was,
and East of where he’d been
The mountains called their distant cry,
a pleading heard within
The alpine air, the red-tailed hawk,
their spirits hail his name
To thence return, the past on fire
—his freedom to reclaim

Wasp's Shadow
A wisp of gray cloud slips by
like a passing doubt.

A fleeting black thought flies
with the shadow of a wasp.

An unfelt feeling of cold fear
seeks warmth through window light.

Striped feral cat creeps too near,
sees red-tailed hawk in flight.

Time spent with toes in sand,
washed by water clear and cold.

Empty thoughts to understand,
one wave comes, another one goes.

I gaze up at the pellucid sky a red tailed hawk is flying high; it scans for prey, which soon may die ... rabbits run for your life I want to cry! I watch transfixed, I am spellbound and watch it swoop, without a sound, perhaps its next meal has been found - with luck its prey flees underground. Premium Member Summer's End
Already the air carries the scent
of dryness and decay. The woods
are heady with the must of wild grapes,
fragrant apples ripe for picking.

Here and there leafy maples ignite
like matches. In a scoured blue sky
the red-tailed hawk traces the shadow
of his circles over exhausted fields below.

The garden’s generosity is spent.
Only leeks and kale remain
to brave winter’s cold and snow,
like flowers on a grave....

Premium Member Shapeshifting Into a Red Tailed Hawk
John was invited to participate in the sweat lodge ceremony.
You may or may not experience your vision quest.
He had no preconceived ideas but enjoyed his Apache friends.
A bit of peyote put him into another realm.
He shapeshifted, becoming a red-tailed hawk.
He flew to the top of the mountain.
He felt adventurous and free, he had passion and strength.
He never wanted to come down.
Afterwards he knew he could meet any obstacle
Surmount any pinnacle.
It was more than enough....
