Mendel Fell In Love
Mendel fell in love with Grendel's mother

They married in lair of Jean-Luc Godard

                                              They were breathless

Split Pea Soup
I’m not a cook and rarely do
But when the weather’s cold,
I sometimes make a pot of soup;
It’s pretty good, I’m told.

A bag of split peas does the trick
With carrots and some dill.
Some hours on the stove and then
Ta-ta to winter’s chill.

It makes a hearty winter lunch
And warms me up inside
When others polish off a bowl
My efforts did provide....

Last nights' rain swiftly drained away
Fog is today's remnant
Thick as pea soup and silver shrouded
Oceans now a descendant

The roosters sing in sweet delight
The Doves coo resounding
The fog comes softly closer still
Crickets sing rejoicing

Dampness saturates roof and porch
Moistens the cushions there
All is wet even the cat's fur
And my ole' rocking chair

The Eyes of Worship
Did you ever read
the hope in folks' eyes
when they worship?

It's like watching
the homeless
wait in line
for some pea soup!

I see that hope
as gigantic
as a big base drum
being drummed by
the deaf mute
who plays it
feeling its sound.

I hear that hope
in the low
of the cow
who runs to the farmer
as he feeds her.

Hope in worship
happily comes from
the desire to be
close with God
like we'll be
for eternity.

Pea Soup
Pea Soup
A lot of party people have perfect bowels.
What would it take to totally kaput Nork's military machine?
Same ferocity in battle as that one bollock corporal’s?
All along the periphery, East v West, their games of cat and mouse, thrust and parry continued.

Warpac Hungarian Hind and Yankee NATO Kiowa getting intimate in the weeds.
No one ever won; a draw.
Thirty years later Korea time destination central.
Viper v Fulcrum.
Nothing changes but the year....

Flashes
I think of the little café in Berlin
Where we breakfasted sitting outside
And the strolls that we took from our Danish hotel
With the icy canal as our guide.

Gelato in Italy, pea soup in Prague
And hot cocoa on cold Swedish streets,
The memories cropping unbidden and yet
Sweet and lovely, like welcoming treats.

My travel’s on hold but these flashes are proof
That experiences while you’re away
Make a lasting impression to savor and mull
When you’re stuck in a pandemic day....
