Flashes

I think of the little café in Berlin Where we breakfasted sitting outside And the strolls that we took from our Danish hotel With the icy canal as our guide. Gelato in Italy, pea soup in Prague And hot cocoa on cold Swedish streets, The memories cropping unbidden and yet Sweet and lovely, like welcoming treats. My travel’s on hold but these flashes are proof That experiences while you’re away Make a lasting impression to savor and mull When you’re stuck in a pandemic day.

I'm not like, Ilene, I remember not only the sights I see when I travel but also the foods I eat, good or bad! I remember the best Niçoise salad I ever had in Paris; my first taste of beef tongue in Switzerland; the delicious pastry in Nice, France, which I thought was a fig bar but turned out to be not fig bit Swiss chard! A Greek dessert also passes for sweet figs but is actually green tomatoes! / M

I wonder why women always remember the food on their journeys? I knew a Swedish woman who always remembered the different sex techniques of men she met on her travels. Hysterical laughter is much more enjoyable than food! Aloha! Rico

ahh, to think of those memories. Will life ever be the same? Hey, Ilene. I know you have some things in common with Matt Anish. you know of him, don't you? I called him the Big Apple poet. He always wrote of New York. Anyway, I just learned he passed away. Thought you might want to know.

Thank you for letting me know, Andrea. I haven’t seen his work here for a while and wondered what happened to him. He will be missed...
