Massachusetts
In a house in Massachusetts
A wealthy mother of two sits
Her son's in the Sox
Where she has a box
And that's where his sister Sue sits....

Shadows Fall Distant
Late September holds onto the summer
like that promise you made
—you can never forget
Late September holds onto the summer
as shadows fall distant
—and memory regrets

The Bee Gees
The Bee Gees/Gibbs Brothers
Stayed together so long
They're the undisputed kings
Of heart-rending pop songs
Three true-blue Britishers
In America, never to die
With songs like 'Massachusetts'
They're forever 'Stayin' Alive!'...

Nancy Kay Lee - Witty Epitaph
~Nancy Kay Lee~
(1712-1752)
Boston, Massachusetts
Herein lies a lady by the name of Nancy Kay Lee
Who just climbed a very tall tree.
A twig caught up her dress 'round
And she just fell all the way down.

All Movement Stopped
Like children, pages
drift away adolescent,
refusing what I offer
Defiant
in their questions,
beyond all answers in their parting
Forcing what’s left, to live trapped
in the abandoned distance
between us now
All movement stopped
and estranged, from the very things
we used to know
(Worcester Massachusetts: March, 2011)...

Untitled
Whilst in Massachusetts,
Amherst to be precise,
We watched the flickering fire flies
As lighting crossed the skies
And thoughts of writings past.
DEAR EMILY
Come a lady
walk with me,
Come a dear
as poets be,
Trading words
of rhyming things,
Thoughts of birds
preening wings
String moments
as beads or pearls
In a necklace
from other worlds....

Drifting Away
To see any clearer
I drifted away
From your
lies
From your
madness
From your paperless
tray
The word forest
called
For my pen to break
free
From the blurred
introspection
Hovering close to your
tree
When my vision
unclouded
A bigger picture
appeared
In whose distance
I found
What your emptiness
feared
(Train In Massachusetts: March, 2015)...

Spectre Mist, Massachusetts
Under centuries of sediment
Tramped by stalwart feet
And twenty-two layers of blood
Laid down like concrete
From crunching force ambivalent
To this mottled seat
Dangles a shepherding spirit
Bathed in phantom mist
Playing on strings of circumstance
When souls coexist
With delusional flesh taunting once
So violently kissed
Until caressed in the nexus,
Songs resonating
In harmonic tempo profound
Patiently waiting
For the transitional gauntlet
Nature’s creating....

The Fire They Share
There are types of young love
that must be broken apart
For either or both lovers
to survive
Like alcohol to the inferno
their temperature gets hotter
Until nothing is left to share
except scorched remains
With no net to catch them
they fall into each other
Tumbling and hurling
like a flaming ball
A hunger unsated
devouring their passion
Their souls trapped and burning
—in the fire they share
(Westborough Massachusetts: April, 2018)...

A Bit of Fatherly Pride
If in a bit of fatherly pride I may indulge here
My 22-year-old son's brought my old age new cheer
Today he just accepted his first full-time position
Which my wife and I wish him much success in
By the way, our son -- you should know -- is super brainy
As shown by his job title, M.I.T. (!) ~ Mgr. in Training
M.I.T. also stands for the Massachusetts Institute of Technology,
which has long been considered the top college in America...

Out-Of-State Plates
I check the license plates of cars
Parked all around my block,
Which proves that to New York
So many people still do flock.
Here’s Arizona, Massachusetts,
California, too.
Of course, there’s Pennsylvania
And New Jersey, passing through.
Surprisingly, there’s Kansas,
Also Carolina (North).
I wonder why these people
From their native states set forth.
It’s hard to find a parking place
(For on the street, it’s free),
Especially when out-of-towners
Grab a spot from me!...

Christmas Cards Came In Today
Christmas cards came in today in three’s.
Silvery stars with love from Lu, if you please.
Three-D firehouse popup arrived from two,
Massachusetts retirees, pretty sweet too!
One photo card from my cousin also named Lou.
Three beautiful cards, made Thursday feel fine.
I have to smile because they are all three mine.
Michigan card my favorite by far.
With snowman, love, and a silver star.
So nice to feel love from a poet friend far away,
One I have known less than two years and a day....
