Judo Pin-Down
When the mind grabs and holds,
slams and finally pins down
an elusive poetic idea
on the judo mat of
the written word,
the soul leaps
with effusive
yet quiet
joy!...

Judo
Bow to the mat’s ritual space
The dance begins
Bare feet skip
Fingers grip sleeves
Legs sweep
Fight to keep
balance strange tango
Now –
A flash of white, thud, shout,
Ippon!
The referee’s hand shoots up
In salute

King
Judo King
is a king
there is no two ways about it
He defeated his evil enemy
and he lets himself
move in time
to the music
of the night
Let us see what Judo King
and his friend
Demon Racer
have in store for us
in this new different time
far from recent world struggles...

I do not know?
fun with words in July
jiggling juggernaut jockeyed judo
katie’s Korean kitties killed with kudos
lively llamas listened, learning Latin
Mischievous miscreants misused satin
Needless nimble noodles kneaded themselves
Opulence and opals were seen in land of elves
Paralyzed parlor poodles paraded past purple pails
Quarrelsome queens quickly collected quick quails...

Friday in France
How lucky we are the Olympics
Will be starting, this Friday, in France!
After all this political trauma,
We can wake from this terrible trance.
We can focus on swimming and tennis,
Gymnastics and polo and track.
Cheer for volleyball, diving and cricket
And not listen to pols talking smack.
There’ll be fencing and judo and hockey
And sailing and golf and lacrosse.
Once the athletes march in, all that fanfare
Will remind us there’s life after loss.
