The Holy Road
Your voice like smoke,
 it calls from the distance

Luring your enemy into
 winds of deceit

The clouds of your fathers,
hiding hailstones above

Disguising the truth
—as you lie in wait

(Devil’s Tower Wyoming: September, 1990)...

Storm Warning
A hurricane of stimulation,
  a tornado of thought

Blowing through the vast unknowing,
  our natures to be caught

When doubt sits high on light’s horizon,
  storm warnings there portend

Whose cyclones of enlightenment
  —with hailstones shape and bend

(Villanova Pennsylvania: April, 2019)...

The greatest of men
  he bled the truth,
his wounds for all to share

A symbol relived
  a life unspoiled,
  courage all too rare

The towering hawk
  the thundering storm,
  hailstones mark the way

A moment in time
  a vision embraced
   —his name the children pray

Winter
Winter has crept in like a beautiful bride!
Awesome in beauty! Yet, in shame, she does hide!
Her bridal gown is snow-white, graceful, and pure!
Yet, how long will she wear it - she's not so sure!
When hailstones and chill winds leave her heart shattered,
Won't her charm, like flowers in storms, get tattered...?

The Handy Work of God
David J Walker

I call them my flowers

	as if
They were really mine

As if I really
Owned the earth

	as if I could
Make the sun shine

	as if could
call down the rain

	as if I could refrain
 the storms angry hailstones

	As if
I were anything more
Than the gardener

Admiring the handy work
	of God...

Crying’s not for me, so the singer intones As raindrops, unlike hailstones, fall on his head* The issue, perhaps, is no more than hormones, And he is hanging on by the thinnest of thread His catchy tune makes a memorable ringtone For the cellphone alarm lying next to my bed.

Suddendly everything is still.
Hailstones lay on the path
and in clumps along the garden
edges like frozen spawn
left by storm clouds now
dying into the distances
of the evening.

The light is muted, the cold,
soundless air hangs breathless
in the trees as if waiting
for the clouds offspring
to hatch and float them off
into the arms of the night....

Hailstones on the mat
A feral Tom cat lingers
Doors that never shut

As hailstones strafe junk mail and mat
Where feral is the alley cat
On one hinge hangs
The door that bangs
And he ain’t going out in that

The feral cat whilst oftentimes homeless, is, it seems, at no time gormless

The sky is like a funeral pyre

In clouds above the night's on fire

My ears perceive the thunder's call

While angry raindrops fiercely fall

There's hailstones mixed within the rain

That's pelting now my window pane

And while the storm does slowly creep

It makes it hard for me to sleep

But thankfully the coming morn

At last a new day now is born

I cast my eyes up to the light

With not an angry cloud in sight...

Summer Rain
ELEMENTS of DOUBT.

    Storms growing restless, impatiently squall.
As thunderbolts rake, grey cloud leaden skies,
Raindrops and hailstones, released to freefall.
Shrieking winds screech, Armageddon's war cries.
Summer lies bleeding, enslaved by it all.
With flora and fauna, striving to rise,
Nature survives, to enthral us again.
Time's a great healer, when sunshine soothes pain.

          8 / 27 / 2017....
