I sat there for hours
Sprawled out on a carpet of green
Searching for a four leaf clover
NO LUCK!

Mothers cry for fallen sons
The war is over they say
If Congress sent their young ones
Our troops would be home today

Daisies
Millions of them!
Singing in the meadow
Smiling at the gentle breeze
Jubilant giggles at the site of passing butterflies

They're quickly away from my side.
My sneezing they just can't abide.
I've blown my nose off.
Peppered them with my cough.
Now I'm here all alone on this ride!

Trees like friends are always around
They allow me to nestle beneath their shade
When it seems like good friends can never be found
I counted twenty-something tree friends I’ve already made!

I started the day wholly fresh and free
Allowing this flu to envelope me
I sparked a fever
Puked up a beaver
Waiting for the day I’ll heal so fully

Toasted Italian bread. Yum!
I love tuna, but
today - beef and provolone,
mayo, onions, greens. . . .
I open my mouth
and insert
Foot!

The phenomenon known as a sneeze
Hits with major velocity. Jeez!
What a mess might ensue
If you heard an “A-choo!”
From the guy on the flying trapeze.

Some use tissue to blow their nose,
others rinse with a garden hose;
sneezing can cause one to fart,
blaming others is an art...
Help us all as flu season grows!

Modern Governance
Vote-bank thoughts and woes of dissent
Leave them lost mumbling excuses
Making quick bucks their time well-spent
Leaving behind SCAMS in excess.

Since I was three my mum served me coffee
I was her first child so she was merely experimenting
I bounced to and fro and spoke faster than she
By the time I was four she switched me to decaffeinated tea!

On the road in hungry mode,
Golden arches call!
Stomach immensely howling,
“Big Mac” has attacked.
Hamburger and cheese
Zingy sauce to please,
Gulp it down!
Plump!

Like the path that I rarely take
My resolutions I will not break
I don’t like to start these
Even if they’re a breeze
For no resolutions will I make

A sweet poetess named Gwen
is like the Soup's mother hen.
I think she must never tire,
always here giving words to inspire!
Does anyone remember the sweetie, Gwendolen?
I wrote this for her a few years ago but she has
been gone almost two years now. Sure miss her!!

*The Smiling Sunflower*
The petals of each flower frame the perfect smile
Long cylindrical petals curling up next to each other
Look how sweet and tender my sunflower is
Standing next to hundreds of others rising to the occasion
Of my coming sun

Caterpillars creeping and crawling
Along the forest floor
Seeking hidden treasures from
Centuries before
Covered in extravagant velvety moss
And beneath earthen engraved rocks
Hidden treasures galore!

Forgiveness is a tonic
A most powerful potion
It goes down ever so smoothly
It tickles my tummy
A surprise in the middle of a turbulent hot day
The cure for what ails my scorched heart
Forgiveness goes down the hatchet and just hits the spot!

Chicken, get back; don’t peck me
For the cleaver in my hand
Just think, could be, soon chopping thee.
Dinner captured, cleaned and panned.
