at the bar
you spot a Jew --
The Sabbath wine
he hath eschewed...

Sir Edmund Clerihew Bentley
Sir Edmund Clerihew Bentley
passed away, so he sent me.
He wrote of gumshoe detectives,
and eschewed dumb invectives.

Miss Carol's Cravings
Miss Carol craved sexual adventure
Her desires so wild no man could quench her
She eschewed all foreplay
Saying, 'Why waste the day?'
If kissed, men found her mouth full of dentures...

Books Unread
Why is the middle where I put a book down?
My anticipation dies at that half-read interlude.
I lack the discipline that keeps me inbound.
A famous author's endings should be praised, and not eschewed....

Silk
A veil of sadness
was pierced,
the fabric of sorrow
ripped.
In moments
a rippling silence
eschewed.
I was liberated
from a shroud
that bound my grief,
I am now a silken thread
fixed to spin,
in silent whorls....

Let Me Be
gilt
but of intricacy
of a mirror’s frame
guilt
shown an ember in me
am I not the reflection’s heel
am I not intrinsic
asked, though eschewed
you judge me mirror
abased, now
heavens just let me be
in my own camouflaged
hypocrisy

A Shoe Eschewed
On his daily morning constitutional
Carter stumbled on an old brown shoe
Just one it was, and not a pretty sight
Weeds peered from it, smeared with blight
Carter picked it up, pondered a while...
Tossed it aside ~ last year's style...

Nostalgia
Yeah, we had wavelengths that worked and that didn't
Good, bad, happy, sad, over the top slightly mad
all that stuff.
I eschewed butterflies
so did you and maybe we
should not have
tossed shoulds
tho
seems better to both of us
than embracing butterflies?
Dunno, do you?...

Spiting the Darkness
Building a bridge
for others to walk
light burning at the end
It’s never enough
to stand and wait
their crossing must begin
Toeing a path
in another’s steps
fruition comes in view
Toll again paid
in memory script
—to spite the dark eschewed
(Dreamsleep: April, 2023)...

Apology
the limericks can’t be eschewed
my muse seems excessive imbued
they seep through the pores
they flood out in scores
seek nuance to coyly allude
It’s not just a trek through lewd grit
perfection is sought for, to whit
there’s meter to wrangle
inference to dangle
infinitives to boldly split...

The Usa Nation
~THE USA NATION~
Observe, the very last of boys and girls.
Teachers decide now if they might be birds?
Educators, these, are also high above you.
Parents’ rights are summarily eschewed!
The once proud Red,White and Blue nation.
Now but a raging transgender sensation!

Be Shrewd To Be Rescued
Don't hastily conclude,
All the facts, you include
By being always shrewd,
Have a pleasant mood,
Toward none, be rude,
Approach be not crude,
Wisely if you have viewed,
Mysteries, you can denude,
Life must be improved,
Talents must be proved,
Our skill must be improved,
We must be by all approved,
Bad things must be removed,
If we have properly moved,
Defeats can be eschewed!...

Once More
Once More…
(Apropos Orlando)
Once more and again
bigotry spreads
like a keloid of shame
across the face
of the promise land.
Once more
liberty and justice
proves to be
only for some—
serving Satan
in the name of God.
Once more
eschewed minds
flake death
to the tested innocent
living out
the tried truth—
their being
who they are:
children of the same God
blasphemed with desecration
of name....

Prose Poetry
Do No Harm
Your happiness comes from the
good you do.
Both envy and jealousy should be
eschewed.
It sounds so simple but the more you
give, the more you get.
Grousing and selfishness create
hateful mindsets.
So many great poets here taught
me all of this.
They may not have trophies or be
on Best lists, but are teaching me
by loving examples and utter poetic
tenderness!
Thank you,
Panagiota xx

I Shall Write of Bygone Days
I shall write of bygone days
Old memories, old-fashioned times
Of strange and primitive ways,
Simple tunes and easy rhymes.
When poems were read out loud
To entertain family and friends,
Prayers were said with heads bowed
To each his own business attends.
While life flowed steadily onward
And chaotic noises were eschewed,
At all costs everyone avoided discord
And dinnertime was a day reviewed.

Lost Battle
He was there recumbent like a log
Cancer has culminated,prevailing over him
Enfeebled all his shielding apparatuses
Yet spurned to frolic prolongation
Eschewed palliative care ministrations
He detected the vital prognosis was engaged
He had instead to plough money into God's certitude
For he realized HE implements nothing fortuitously
Could he yet afford to acquit himself otherwise
Engage in a battle lost right from the dawn ?...

When Dreams End
When early morning breaks and the sun shines through
Sleep flees from the eyelids and false fantasies are eschewed
When the dream ends and the music fades, we are left with harsh sunlight cutting through the mystery of the night
Wishing to continue our dreams we close our eyes and pretend to not see the light
We can only hide for so long and all too soon our delusion fades
And then we long for the ancient days when we were loved without a thought...

Brake
Willows wheeze while traders weep
A head for softer shoulders grasped
Spread another bid too deep
On margin calling crumpled dreams collapsed
Umbrellas saved the follicles
While frozen feet alarmed by sudden cold
Observe the blaze advanced to diabolical
All paper perished, all future visions sold
Jackals trace the wall of worry
Dining on the furtive few
Until at last the feast of falling flurry
All pensioners resolve eschewed...
