Books Unread

Why is the middle where I put a book down? My anticipation dies at that half-read interlude. I lack the discipline that keeps me inbound. A famous author's endings should be praised, and not eschewed.

Hilda, this is a real insight. I know I am too old to be disciplined. At this point in my life, I'm getting very particular about how I use my time. Reading your poems, seeing the comments, and your responses is enough of a draw for me though.

I’m most partial to a work like this for its refreshing honesty, style, and precise language. Sincere gratitude for your appraisal of Piebald Furry Deer

This is really poignant Hilda. "keeps me inbound" is a cool turn of phrase. I like how you end it with a self reprimand.

At least you get half way. I can tell much sooner whether or not it’s a book I will enjoy. I love reading series, hoping there will always be a next one.

Some series are good if they sort of end at each book. Harry Potter was an enjoyable series. I like to learn, so books that unfold are the types I like.

Oh yes, I'm too like this when sometimes I find a book not as per my interest, but yes, with those that really fascinate me, I can't get peace until I've finished reading them till the end.. There can be many reasons for the lack of concentration.. I remember when I finished reading a very long book on the day when I purchased it gosh.. This is a thought-provoking and intriguing write dear Hilda, wonderfully crafted.. Sending you light always :)

Thank you. And may you read thousands of books successfully.

Sometimes it's being lazy, but most of the time it may just mean the book is not for you right now. Sometimes I buy a book at half-priced books that I've owned before. I read it and it's fabulous. I think why did I sell this book the first time? The timing just wasn't right for me the first time. Read it when you're ready, my friend. Smiles ~ Blessings Bill

I hope you liked the poem. I'm not too concerned if I finish. I always failed in school on "makes good use of time". I guess they were right.

I believe I have undiagnosed ADHD so I have to make concerted effort to stick with most things to their conclusion. Over time I have improved. I appreciate this honest disclosure. I might suggest that instead of starting a new book go back a couple books to one that you didn’t finish. You know you can read half a book. Pretend you are just starting that one.

Thank you for reading my poem. Maybe I just like touching books. Maybe touching them gives me insights. I think I'll sell some of the crafts books soon. Lol.

I agree with Gershon Hilda. Sometimes, halfway through a book, one finds that it is plodding and dull, and there is not enough interest to continue. Nicely written poem. :)

Thank you. It's more a thought than a poem. Since Ink commented, I've made progress. I can do it

I agree with IE. I wouldn't want to put a book down. Greetings

Oh this is such a genuine and sincere write. My twin sister is like you. But me, when i start reading a good book, i cant sleep until im done reading. But im also a fast reader, maybe because ive been reading since childhood, so i end up finishing a big novel in one day sometimes hah. But some books, when they drag on too much i get bored and read the last page and get done with it. Pleasure reading you always hilda. Sending you light today and always

I guess finishing will be my New Year resolution. My eyes aren't as sharp as they used to be, so I need to make certain that I wear reading glasses. Thank you for reading the poem. I enjoy your comments.

Hilda, maybe - just maybe - there was no reason to read on. If a book hasn't grabbed you halfway through, it's rather unlikely to grab you right at the end... 'Great books' are relative to the reader. My opinion. ~ Just sayin'

I try to read books that I should read. It's a leftover habit from high school. I'm reading POLAND right now. I will finish it

been there, done that...not recently, though. I was a bit frazzled earlier in the year and just couldn't seem to motivate myself to read an entire book. Now I'm hoping to finish them by the end of the year. Thanks for the gentle reminder, Hilda. Have a splendid evening, Sara

I echo what Tom, said. Concentration and patience. Pearls are always tricky to unfold dear Hilda. Great brevity

I wanted it to be longer, but like Alice, I ate the wrong cookie. Thank you for your coment. I may be offline for some time while I read.

Wow you are able to put it down?? I could that if it was a terrible story going nowhere. Then you could just go to last page and not waste time getting there!
