Mister Killjoy
A brand-new fur coat
The latest smart phone
Four cruises a year
An ocean-front home
She must have it all
Says money's no object
Yet at times he objects
To her kind of logic...

The River Line
Meandering the river line
Steam boats scrumptious dinner cruises
Otters playfully splash up fur
Fun people in circular tubes
Polished stones collected for artist craft
Fresh trout proudly caught, A campfire tonight...

Sir Grimly
You wonder what he does all day
watch tv or morbid play
perhaps he cruises the mall
the young to take one and all
or maybe to the library go
peruse obits of so and so
his favorite place the cemetery
his great success brings serenity
if you have no still figured yet
tis Sir Grimly, the king of death...

Loraine
Lovely Loraine,
Always into her game!
On multiple cruises,
Never loses!
On the last one out,
She had some clout.
90 years and running strong,
Brought a bit of money along!
A million bucks,
To help her play,
On this,
Her 90th birthday!...

Promises
Promises here, promises there
Broken promises, everywhere
You tell me this, you tell me that
From cruises to diamond rings
They were all nothing but dreams
None was reality, just a fantasy
Of what you want to do for me
What's the deal?
Can you be real
I don't know
I think I better
Let you go....

River's Life
Garlands I hold on blue river’s last sunset- path today
It’s babbling never the same each time my heart cruises it;
That I might grow old and forget an alcove by the shore
As smokey ripples lead me through a psalm of waved memoirs--
To offer wreaths for my child… lost, drowned in riverbed’s womb.

Flaming Ripples---Etheree
comes
wistful,
in a gloss
of frothy drifts
she cruises near bends...
old river dressed in leaves
peach-gold like October tides.
And ripples splash through a varnished
light, crests twirling on pale twigs,wildbuds;
flaming river’s last glide …. prelude to snow.

Valentine's Day
so, the frenzied hunt is on,
for that perfect gift,
that unique something,
for that special someone.
Heart-shaped chocolates,
diverse species of stuffed animals,
gold and silver anklets,
carefully trimmed bouquets,
painstakingly worded cards,
gift vouchers, moonlit dinners,
cruises, picnics, breakfasts in bed.
Gosh, I’ve got to run,
I’ve just thought of exactly,
exactly what my cat will love…...

Heron On the Bay
Soft is her breath, as the full moon begins to rise high.
Warm breezes whisper to the gentle ripples on the bay.
Ocean swells carry the seaweed high upon the tidal surge.
A ketch cruises by with her mizzenmast tightly bound.
heron stands stoic
taking flight into a breeze
scent of lilac wafts

Had I Known
A last goodbye to you on the deck...
Winds growling the misfortune....
RMS titanic twisted in the blisters...
Let the coffin in glister...
Recalling our ancestors' flute...
Off the ships under the sealed seabed,
Cape of Good hope lurkes the will of fate.
Seagull hissing to the Symphony of Seas,
Carnival of cruises,
Had I known your last dreary,
I would have written miles of dreams......

From the Hollow of An Avocado
Sipping champagne from the hollow
of an avocado, on a cactus-lined
boulevard in St. Looie
While munching on anchovies
slathered with salsa, the nerve
of them calling us screwy
On the dashboard piled high
were half-empty cruises of gin ...
By the time we crashed the car
into a passing trolley car ~
I swear I saw Busch Brewery spin...

Honeymoons
HONEYMOON.
Some couples take expensive
cruises to far off exotic lands!
Others, only use whatever cash
is on hand.
It's that joy that love you deeply
share,
Two souls, in concert and committed-
that are so special and rare.
In your future come great children
and many anniversaries!
These mean far more than any expensive
honeymoon, I see!

Limitless Love
God’s love lives beyond laws of location and languages,
His love cruises beyond the corridor of colours and culture.
His love radiates beyond the realms of race and religion,
His love triumphs over the terrain of tongues and tribes,
His love has dominion over our differences and diversity,
His love bless us with bonds of bountiful beauty,
His love gives indemnity against insecurity and all our iniquity.
God’s love unveils the unlimited undestanding of unity....

Frothy Clouds
Along the winding skyline, a parade
Of bird-tails on flight with puffed caress
Like giant pearls woven by moonshine’s braids
A hammock of foams swerving on crowned dress
To pass unto hillsides so wholly blessed
And fluid my breath I marvel the view
Reflecting peace, clouds transparent drift
Oh,wonder of shifting faces imbue
Such tranquil gait that cruises and uplifts
Lightening my woe as hushed froths pour mist.

Cancellations
Schools, parades and lots of trips,
Cruises, flights and races;
Tennis matches and events
In other crowded places:
All are being canceled or
Postponed for times awaiting.
No one knows how soon is safe
When one’s recalculating.
Expos, luncheons, weddings, shows,
Surgeries elective
Crossed off calendars because
Of cautioning directive.
Life appears to be on hold
As virus germs go flitting
And cancellations mount while fear
Shows not a chance of quitting....

She Is Riding An Ostrich
She will probably be dressed to the sevens but riding a goat.
I could not wait to see her, my Great Aunt, Myrtle Van Poat.
I think she traded the goat for an alligator Uncle Tye said.
Well maybe she won’t come at all, maybe she’s dead.
The relatives sound jealous of Aunt Myrtle if you ask me.
She has been on cruises, and adventures in at least six seas.
She did not tie herself down with a dull, boring, banal life.
She’s riding an ostrich! Says Penelope, Uncle Tye’s jealous wife....

Travels
Tiring of travels
Tired of seeing new places
Even cruises with all their comforts
Just happy being traveless
No more restlessness
Just being happy in Vancouver
With its mild summers, mild winters
Tired of waiting in airports
Delayed flights
Hotels with uncomfortable beds
Time to just be restful at home
And avoid all the hassles of travel
Only reminisce of happy moments
In the past
Traveling in my youth
Europe, South America, Asia
Just reminisce now
Of past travels....

The Clock
THE CLOCK
by
JOHN M. ARRIBAS
I Quietly Watch the Second Hand Sweep
Never Varies, a Full Minute it Will Keep
Its an Easy Pace as it Starts its Run
Barreling Through the Number One
Speeds up a Bit as You Can See
Cruises Right past Number Three
Really Moving Taking a Headlong Dive
Slides past Four, Rounds the Corner at Five
Begins to Slow as it Nicks Six
Now Starts an Uphill Climb
Slows the Pace Til Reaching Nine
The Endless Task Never to Shelve
Minute Later We Arrive at Twelve...

The Reef
Turtle cruises the reef,
turquoise warm in the sun;
tendrils of coral stretch to
sup filtered light.
Butterflyfish and Tang
intermingle amid coral polyps,
that are plentiful appetizers
for this party.
As sponges get their rays,
a seahorse uncoils and jettisons itself
just overhead of a yawning mussel.
I giggle to myself as an angelfish kisses
my goggles and swim beneath the belly of turtle;
awed at the Crayola chroma essence
that delights my spirit.

Christmas With Scrooge
On my street there are many MacMansions
Full of stuff but not many grandsons
No pets with dirty feet
Just black balance sheets
And morality they have abandoned.
These nouveau riche Ole moneyed Scrooges
Have dinner talk of subterfuges
The poor they abhor
Not a tear on that score
No mangers please, they’ll take cruises.
No room in the Inn “Oh my what a sin”
Said the bankers foreclosing within
No bed for the King?
The streets just the thing
Perhaps the liberals will let Him in?...
