The tree in the corner shimmered with tinsel
A tradition I remember from Christmases past,
With bright colored bulbs and glittery roping
We filled the stand with water to make it last.

This year it was replaced by aluminum fronds
And twinkling lights pre-installed at the store,
No water required, it will last forever and ever
An improvement, eh? I say “Nay, what a bore!”

the things that made her heart grow fonder.

She smiled at last, despite herself,
and realised she loved an elf;
she'd met him, at the time quite blotto,

Moving furniture to make room for a tree,
Stories of celebrations with their funny quirks
The cat's tree fascination drove us all crazy
Preparing for visits from our distant family.
