Metaphorically Speaking
I missed the rain
but the metaphorical hit
between the eyes
left me reeling
as I read the water smudged
calling card
of the wasting disease....

Pilfered
Someone broke into my heart
And caught me off my guard.
He pilfered every ounce of love
And left a calling card.

I don't know how he did it.
I'm stunned beyond belief.
My heart was broken into
And ravaged by a thief....

The Gift of Futures Past
Bigger in my memory
smaller in my inclination
Regret a distant calling card
admonishing my name

Vacant in my recollection
bedded in my hopefulness
Joy a future invitation
—Heaven to proclaim

My Hope
With chaos on my doorstep,
  reasoning befalls

With heartache as my calling card,
  love though distant calls

All questions left unanswered,
  with time their holy grail

As seasons march to heavens step
  —my hope to then prevail

'walkin After Midnight'
When death sent out its calling card
the heavens came in view
Psalms to reach the Angel’s ears
one voice had broken through
Grace within her every word
each feeling soul infused
Patsy singing from above
—to bless the chosen few

(Remembering Patsy Cline: May, 2022)...

1.
a tornado's curl
small girl throws sand in the air -
vertical cleavage

2.
combines in a field -
grains of truth escaping hail,
locusts, wind, and fire

3.
hail storm’s calling card
twelve by sixty miles scorched earth –
life's tendrils neutered

The kiss of Judas..
Thirty nights of lust..
It starts in the heart..
And it won't be enough..

Deeper and deeper..
Evil thoughts entertain..
Selling your soul..
Till nothing remains..

Hell is your calling card..
Ransom comes due..
In exchange for the world..
Was it worth it to you?...

Who Will Buy My Sweet Red Roses
Red roses with a calling card were mine,
    For my shrinking violet Clementine.
    While inviting her for lunch,
I was beaten to the punch.
    Now she's somebody else's Valentine.

    2 / 7 / 2022.

Contest. Roses are red violets are blue.

His shadow moves in corners dark His calling card, a well-known mark. A trail of death, despair and want. His arrogance, a daily taunt. A hairline opening he found. Slithering through without a sound. Now the demon walks the earth. Giving misery new birth. Beware the place where darkness lives. He seeks new life to join with his.

Calling Card
It captures me and makes me stand still
This scent that lingers in my mind
It calms my nerves and makes me think of you
It's a mystery
The effect is overwhelming
It's my own solution to clear my mind
It makes me feel enclosed and loved
A safety I can always turn to
It puts me in a steady rhythm
and my heart can beat with ease
They're all unique
but I'm still searching for that one...

Calling Card
A splotch of white on my front deck,
Its whiteness quite exquisite,
Has let me know that recently,
A bird's dropped by to visit.

I don't know if he planned to stay
Or was just passing through,
But what he left behind announced,
"Here's something just for you!"

A calling card from feathered friend,
Though lacking couth or class,
Deserves a nod of admiration,
For it's sure got sass!...

Grimace is Death's Smile

Last stage of death's calling card; pain.
Why make it any easier than it must be?
Atonement in exchange for your agreement
for time on earth and the pleasures we see.

Some of us drink deeply from the well
and suck the marrow from the offered feast.
Other's are timid and fast for their lives
hoping sacrifice will quell imagined beast....

The Wind By: Miracle Man 1-7-2020 I always arrive without a calling card, sometimes as a whisper, other times, a gale. I can leave the landscape in disarray and scarred, but often in grass, I scarcely leave a trail. In spring I appear as a zephyr, that’s cooling, able to lift aloft a kite on a string. I can be a precursor to a storm that’s fueling, while I also induce a wind chimes ting.

Tiger Manners
Tiger Manners

Mom makes tea in the cabin
Leaves baby on the porch to sleep
Under the canopy of shade
There in the jungle creatures have their ways
As mom returns to feed the baby
Finds it missing from the cradle
Babies flesh is warm and oh so tender
Tigers need to eat fresh meat
Rips the child from limb to limb
Nature leaves a calling card
No table manners or invites required
A friendly reminder of whose living room you’re in...

Premium Member We Love Zoomorphism
Zoomorphism is alive and well here.
Fish, cat, lamb, rog, and unruly reindeer
Dwell in my home, smiling from walls that are peeling.
If we could figure out how, they would be attached to the ceiling.
We have lizards, seahorses, and dolphins decorating our bath.
We would be plumb full if I cut these treasures in half.
Oh, yes, zoomorphism reigns supreme in my house and my beautiful yard.
Bumper stickers, clothing, dog’s sweater, and my new calling card....

Mischief Night
Each one of those hooligans is up for a caper. I see the trees are filled with toilet paper. They pelted my car with eggs in the driveway. I should have parked it in the garage today. The pumpkins are smashed in front of my yard. That’s the typical mischief night calling card. Somebody smeared soap all over the windows. It is all the stuff that usually goes. Those vandals must think all of that is dandy. They will all be back tomorrow night for candy.

Our Global Shame
Some days I feel so disenchanted
With humanity
When sense of right can be so slanted
By base enmity;
When those whose goals are to condemn
Some other's race or creed;
When seeing only ‘us' and ‘them'
Fills some corrupted need;
When judgements come too easily;
When thinking comes too hard;
When narrow-mindedness can be
A people's calling card -
With never-ending cycles of
Our ignorance and hate,
How can one trust that peace and love
Will ever compensate?
