Untitled #4 / When His Wife Died
When his wife died after three months of marriage
the widower tried to fill the hole in his heart
with food, TV, cards, booze, Buddhism
but none could take her place
so instead
he put a hole in his head....

Buddhist I
The Buddha insists on the absence of ‘I'. We banish the self if we ardently try. I’ve done meditation and hoped for salvation. So who became Buddhist? The Buddha — not I.

I Am Buddha
I am Buddha

Just a stone but a big one
With a chisel in hand he sculpted me
Turned me into Buddha.

Inspired by the monolith statue of Gautam Buddha (founder of Buddhism) that stands amidst a lake in our city(Hyderabad,India)...

Humbly Read For Your Own Benefit, Buddhist Utopia
We have "civilized" ourselves in a hurry, so we hurry and feel busy, VIPs:
Life is like great music, magnificent dance. It doesn't rush to the END -
If the end, the goal, was ALL, the fastest dance, the quickest song, would win...

I'm woozy with the uncertainties of life.
I'm staggering back and forth,
slamming into one wall and then another.
I cling to a banister
wondering how it can be
that I'm even alive.
Bitter to be still living.
Grateful to have survived so long....

Truly Enlightened
Holy Heap said:
Buddha!
Holy Beads said:
Buddha!
Holy flowers, plants,
Holy atoms, elements
Holy disciples,
Holy of holies said:
Buddha!
Siddhartha’s
Holy Fig Tree said:
Buddha!
Buddhism said:
Buddha!
But, Buddha said:
I am not Buddha.

Octopus
I wonder why
we fight
among us
with delusion
of grandeur!

God is an
Octopus,
a formidable
ramified power.

Buddhism
Christianity
Hinduism
Islam
Judaism
Sikhism
Taoism
and
Zoroastrianism
are His
long appended
arms
with which
He controls
our life on the
earth.

Why should we
fight!...

The Vegetarians
Although
God’s holy messages
Were revealed to Prophet Buddha
Buddhism is not a universal religion
Because if all the people of the earth
Become vegetarians
There will be extreme food crisis
And the number of flora and fauna
Will increase manifold
As a result
Plants and animals
Will create problem
In human habitats!...

Premium Member Chanting
Higher consciousness can be attained through chanting.
"OM" is a popular chant within many a religion,
including but not limited to Jainism, Hinduism and Buddhism.
I do my share of chanting now and again,
but I don't chant "OM," I chant "Amen"
a chant that while chanted can also sung,
Amen, Amen, over and over again....

Emptiness
Time, space, Being toppling over;
The pivot of nothingness.
I exist here in the moment, moment by moment.
This is where the many become one,
I want to say I stood at the void and looked with a countenance
Of love and adoration into the emptiness
And, saw the uncreated come into existence from the timeless
Pool of the void. Love exists in form over and over....

I shaved my head
and wore a robe
the mountain pass
I found at last
grew thin alas
but fat I got
on nature's lot
her sounds were not
my thoughtless strobe
though I was dead
to the mountain's mass
in me she saw
I knew not what
my feet grew raw
I found my past
a timely flaw
the mountain pass
my life aghast
and all was for
a little more
though I was dead
I shaved my head

Premium Member Religion and Science
I have copies of the bible of many denominations,
along with the many teachings of hinduism and buddhism,
and judaism as well as a copy of the quran,
but I am not at all a theologian or a religious man.
I am not so much a man of faith as I am a man of science,
but that doesn't mean that I wouldn't have any of this literature in my home.
I do find their images to be very beautiful and their poetry very moving....

A Samurai has two swords,
To that, I have two pens.
He is fighting enemies,
I am building friends.

A Samurai may challenge you,
To a mighty duel.
I write poems...
And would like to hear yours too.

A Samurai has philosophies,
Of Buddhism and Zen.
I just grab my quickest thoughts,
And write them down again.

So send me your best poem if you may,
To Robert2417@hotmail.com, it will make my day!

Alan W Watts: Rip Great Lapsed Pastor
I
Alan Watts says we live forever
In children if we can bear
There is no joy in going on, ever
And ever as a dying tree or flower

II
He was a brilliant Brit, knew nirvana!
Died as American, in California
Barely making 59 years, once pastor
Presbyterian in Pennsylvania

III
I need to research why he quit
He was undoubtedly good at it
For faithfulness few scholars matched
His authenticity, universality. Unmatched...

Jewish Baseball Meditation
Sandy Koufax, Hank Greenberg and Sean Green were Jewish baseball stars
Green wrote a book called "The Way of Baseball" - applying Zen to the sport
I have read that "I have learned nothing from Supreme Enlightenment and for that reason it is called Supreme Enlightenment"
Well, Buddhism is quite interesting
and I do have a small purple Buddha in my place
I will light my menorah in December
I believe the Dalai Lama would approve...

Sariputra and Zhuangzi
Once Sariputra and Zhuangzi spent a night at a hotel.

Zhuangzi dreamed he was a butterfly, a happy butterfly flitting among blossom as it pleased. It didn't know that it was Zhuangzi. Suddenly he woke up and found himself, Zhuangzi. But he didn't know if he was Zhuangzi who had dreamed he was a butterfly, or a butterfly dreaming that it was Zhuangzi.

What Sariputra dreamed remains unknown because a true philosopher never shares his bedroom with a strange man....

Sariputra and a Jerk's Enlightenment
Continuation of stories about Sariputra

Once a jerk came to Sariputra and asked him:

- You say the same goal has different ways to reach: a good man follows the path of virtue; a yogi seeks solitude; a philosopher goes to the library and a believer - to the temple. I don’t believe, I can’t read, I hate loneliness, I’m a bad person, I have no goal. What is my path?

- Go away, - Sariputra said.

That's how the jerk got enlightened and found his way....

Premium Member Buddhism For Idiots
A hostile climate
Of alternating seasons:
Desire and Loss.

A stone ripples the pond.
To quell the ripples,
Un-throw the stone.

To quiet the mind,
Focus on the breath.
To focus on the breath,
Quiet the mind.

When motion embraces stillness like a lover,
You’ll find your point of balance.
We are ever at the moment of death,
Watching life flash before our eyes.
The essence of reality is un-individuated.
Like drops of water, we all return to the source....
