Think not,
That I see you there;
You may, as you show
No story of the dead
Would leave with the devil,
The woods were golden
Through beeches;
Truth heard me learn again
(Blackout of Another Dark Lady by Edwin Arlington Robinson)
light cage up in the air,
freeing, a million birds wild ascending shadows
come falling down.
The rain is brightening now. The face is pale
the puzzle solved with an unexpected kiss,
freckled hands alit.
(Blackout of Rain Towards Morning by Elizabeth Bishop)
Hold truths to all men!
Created by their Creator

Hiding the past
Live fully
See the CENTER of what must be

I'm almost disappointed
when
the pot of tea is
off the stove.
I forgot
her.
She stands next to me,
unconvinced.
I step aside
and let her
weep and wail.
She's here
for a few more days
and I will
figure this out.
She was sick
for years.

Eye contact is
grey and clear.
I don't hear
screaming...
then
two small children
fidget
and speak in
fortifying walls...
and then
my lips are parched
and I can't swallow.
I marvel at them,
like two white doves
waiting to take flight.
I tilt my head
to see
flesh
and bone
and ash.

Sea Shell, Sea Shell,
Sing me a song, ¦¦¦ ¦¦¦¦¦¦¦
A song of ¦¦¦¦¦¦ ¦¦¦ ¦¦¦¦¦¦ ¦¦¦¦
¦¦¦ ¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦ ¦¦¦ tropical trees,
Of islands ¦¦¦¦ ¦¦¦ ¦¦¦ ¦¦¦¦¦¦¦ ¦¦¦¦
¦¦¦¦¦ ¦¦¦ ¦¦¦ ¦¦¦¦ ¦¦¦ ¦¦¦¦ ¦¦¦¦¦¦
Of fishes and corals ¦¦¦¦¦ ¦¦¦ ¦¦¦¦¦¦
And seahorses ¦¦¦¦¦¦¦ ¦¦¦ ¦¦¦¦¦ ¦¦¦¦¦ ¦¦¦¦¦¦
Sea Shell, Sea Shell,
Sing of the things you know so well.
(Blackout of Sea Shell by Amy Lowell)
He shakes his head
against the linoleum.
I watch him rinse his mug
with my eyes closed
before the sound of the mug
shatters into pieces
just like the occasion.
I stare at him for a moment,
a ghost.
I thought I heard him
raise his eyebrows.
I just dropped my head.
"You're not real. You're dead."

Miraculous ¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦ ¦¦¦ stone
Against ¦¦¦ blue miraculous skies,
¦¦¦ ¦¦¦¦¦¦ towers and turrets rise
¦¦¦ ¦¦¦ ¦¦¦ arches that enthrone
¦¦¦¦ ¦¦¦¦ wonder of the skies.
Softly ¦¦¦¦¦¦¦ ¦¦¦ ¦¦¦¦¦¦¦ ¦¦¦
¦¦¦ ¦¦¦¦¦ ¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦ spreads its wings;
¦¦¦¦ ¦¦¦ ¦¦¦ ¦¦¦¦¦ belfry sings.
¦¦¦¦¦¦ Ascension Day ¦¦¦¦¦
¦¦¦¦¦ ¦¦¦ shadow of those wings!
(Blackout of At Burgos by Arthur Symons)
A library, a ¦¦¦¦¦¦ spot, ¦¦¦ ¦¦¦¦¦¦¦
Where treasures ¦¦¦ ¦¦¦ ¦¦¦¦ patiently await,
Forgotten times whispered ¦¦¦ ¦¦¦ ¦¦¦¦¦
And hidden gems unveiled at last.
¦¦¦ ¦¦¦¦¦¦¦ ¦¦¦ ¦¦¦¦¦ ¦¦¦¦ ¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦ ¦¦¦ ¦¦¦¦¦¦
In this haven ¦¦¦ ¦¦¦¦¦¦ we're free to dare.
Optimism fills the air ¦¦¦ ¦¦¦¦¦ ¦¦¦¦¦ ¦¦¦¦¦
Wisdom the library does provide.
(Blackout of Knowledge to Share by Catherine Pulsifer)
In this ¦¦¦¦¦¦ where each breath we ¦¦¦¦¦¦¦ leads to
a new sorrow, it is better never to breathe an instant
¦¦¦¦¦¦¦ a cup of ¦¦¦¦ in hand. When the ¦¦¦¦¦¦ of
Aurora makes itself felt, arise and, ¦¦¦¦ after time, empty
the cup, ¦¦¦ ¦¦¦ I have told ¦¦¦¦ this Dawn will breathe
for long, ¦¦¦¦ years when we no longer ¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦
(Blackout of In this world, where each breath we breathe leads to by Omar Khayyam)
Sun ¦¦¦ ¦¦¦ ¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦ melancholy star!
Whose ¦¦¦¦¦¦¦ beam glows tremulously far,
That show'st the darkness thou canst not dispel,
¦¦¦ ¦¦¦¦ ¦¦¦ ¦¦¦¦ ¦¦¦ ¦¦¦ ¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦ ¦¦¦¦¦
So gleams ¦¦¦ ¦¦¦¦¦ the light of other days,
Which shines, ¦¦¦ ¦¦¦¦¦ ¦¦¦ ¦¦¦¦ ¦¦¦ ¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦ ¦¦¦¦¦
A night-beam Sorrow ¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦ ¦¦¦ ¦¦¦¦¦¦¦
Distinct but distant ¦¦¦ ¦¦¦¦¦ ¦¦¦ ¦¦¦¦ oh how cold!
(Blackout of Sun of the Sleepless! by George (Lord) Byron)
Love is ¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦ ¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦
¦¦¦ ¦¦¦¦¦¦ ¦¦¦¦¦ ¦¦¦ ¦¦¦ ¦¦¦¦¦¦
Blotting ¦¦¦ ¦¦¦¦¦¦¦
Symptoms of ¦¦¦¦ ¦¦¦¦
¦¦¦ ¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦ ¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦
¦¦¦¦¦¦¦ ¦¦¦¦¦¦
¦¦¦ omens and nightmares -
¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦ ¦¦¦ ¦¦¦ ¦¦¦¦¦¦
¦¦¦¦¦¦¦ ¦¦¦ ¦¦¦ ¦¦¦¦¦
¦¦¦ ¦¦¦ ¦¦¦¦¦ ¦¦¦ ¦¦¦ ¦¦¦¦¦¦¦
In a darkened room,
¦¦¦ ¦¦¦ ¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦ ¦¦¦¦¦
¦¦¦¦ ¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦ ¦¦¦¦¦¦
¦¦¦¦¦ ¦¦¦ endure ¦¦¦¦ ¦¦¦¦
¦¦¦ ¦¦¦ ¦¦¦¦ ¦¦¦ ¦¦¦¦¦
(Blackout of Symptoms of Love by Robert Graves)
¦¦¦ ¦¦¦¦¦¦ cock-sparrow ¦¦¦ on a green tree,
¦¦¦ he chirruped, ¦¦¦ ¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦ so merry ¦¦¦ ¦¦¦
A ¦¦¦¦¦¦¦ boy came with his ¦¦¦ bow and arrow,
¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦ to shoot this ¦¦¦¦¦¦ cock-sparrow.
"This ¦¦¦¦¦¦ cock-sparrow shall make ¦¦¦ a stew,
And ¦¦¦ ¦¦¦¦¦¦¦ ¦¦¦¦¦ ¦¦¦¦ ¦¦¦ ¦¦¦ ¦¦¦¦¦¦ pie, too."
¦¦¦¦ no," says the sparrow "I won't ¦¦¦¦ ¦¦¦ ¦¦¦¦¦¦
¦¦¦ he flapped his wings ¦¦¦ ¦¦¦¦ he flew.
(Blackout of Boy And The Sparrow by Mother Goose)
To ¦¦¦¦ ¦¦¦¦ ¦¦¦¦ ¦¦¦¦¦¦ under cover of night.
To follow ¦¦¦¦ ¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦ your shadow at the window.
That shadow at the window is you and no one else;
¦¦¦¦ ¦¦¦¦
Do ¦¦¦ open that window behind whose curtains you're moving.
¦¦¦¦ your eyes.
I'd like to shut them with my lips.
But the window opens ¦¦¦ ¦¦¦ ¦¦¦¦¦¦¦ the breeze
which ¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦ balances flame and flag surrounds my escape
with its cloak.
The window opens: it's not you.
I knew it all along.
WHAT
fair and narrow,
dungeon cave,
The picture of thy mind.
art thou, brave;
were but fools,
Not one of them a knave.
Bright thy line, sire!
So ran the way,
And ended in a mire.
Spare me
let me live:
I ask no kindness at thy hand,
For thou hast none to give.
(Blackout of 422. Epigrams against the Earl of Galloway by Robert Burns)
Vote on a partner
limiting fighting increasing diplomats;
It’s a moment for supporters
to balance international
offensive and deep concerns,
consequences largely unchecked;
Whatever decision defend and implement;
Reality complicated when the war began;
Militant kidnapped retaliation
death of majority;
Resolution
strong signal change conduct;
Protect
always use influence;
Pressure
use power
allow resolution to represent
a major warning.
¦¦¦¦¦ ¦¦¦¦ ¦¦¦ ¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦
Severe tyrants, ¦¦¦¦ ¦¦¦ ¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦
¦¦¦ ¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦ ¦¦¦ ¦¦¦¦ ¦¦¦¦¦¦
¦¦¦¦ herd your visions
¦¦¦¦ ¦¦¦ ¦¦¦¦ ¦¦¦ ¦¦¦¦¦
¦¦¦¦¦¦¦ with sledge hammer
¦¦¦ ¦¦¦¦¦ ¦¦¦¦ ¦¦¦ ¦¦¦ ¦¦¦¦¦¦¦
¦¦¦¦¦¦¦ knowing ¦¦¦¦ ¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦
¦¦¦¦ the tight bag of grammar,
¦¦¦¦¦¦¦ the clever sidestep
¦¦¦¦ ¦¦¦¦¦¦¦ is a comfortable
prison. A mirror ¦¦¦ ¦¦¦ ¦¦¦¦¦¦¦
¦¦¦ ¦¦¦ ¦¦¦¦ ¦¦¦ uttered ¦¦¦ ¦¦¦ ¦¦¦¦¦¦
¦¦¦ ¦¦¦¦¦¦ ¦¦¦ from the secret.
(Blackout of The Trade-off by Ruth Stone)
My feelings are ¦¦¦ ¦¦¦¦ ¦¦¦ words
¦¦¦ too shy for ¦¦¦ ¦¦¦¦¦¦
¦¦¦¦ the light ¦¦¦ ¦¦¦¦ ¦¦¦ ¦¦¦¦¦
In your ¦¦¦¦¦¦ garden.
¦¦¦ ¦¦¦¦ ¦¦¦ ¦¦¦¦¦¦
¦¦¦ words are ¦¦¦ shadows
¦¦¦ ¦¦¦¦¦¦¦ never said,
¦¦¦¦¦¦¦ ¦¦¦¦ ¦¦¦¦¦¦¦ ¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦
¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦ ¦¦¦ ¦¦¦ ¦¦¦ ¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦ ¦¦¦¦¦
Light ¦¦¦¦ will tell ¦¦¦ the story.
¦¦¦¦¦ ¦¦¦ ¦¦¦¦¦¦¦ ¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦
Whispering from every leaf,
Singing from every river,
Shimmering from every sky.
(Blackout of Forgotten Home by Dejan Stojanovic)
¦¦¦¦¦ ¦¦¦ wind ¦¦¦¦¦ ¦¦¦ rose ¦¦¦¦
Cold rain ¦¦¦¦¦ sweet grass ¦¦¦¦
¦¦¦ clouds like ¦¦¦¦¦
¦¦¦¦¦¦ ¦¦¦¦ ¦¦¦ ¦¦¦¦¦
Grey skies ¦¦¦¦¦ ¦¦¦ ¦¦¦¦ ¦¦¦¦
Nought warm ¦¦¦¦¦ ¦¦¦¦ ¦¦¦¦ was,
Nought ¦¦¦¦ ¦¦¦¦¦ ¦¦¦¦ hair ¦¦¦¦
¦¦¦ phantom, forlorn,
¦¦¦¦¦¦¦ ¦¦¦ ¦¦¦¦¦¦
¦¦¦¦ ghost ¦¦¦¦¦ ¦¦¦¦ face ¦¦¦¦
Cold wind ¦¦¦¦¦ ¦¦¦¦ voice ¦¦¦¦
¦¦¦¦¦¦ tears ¦¦¦¦¦ my heart ¦¦¦¦
¦¦¦ ¦¦¦¦ ¦¦¦¦ ¦¦¦
¦¦¦¦¦¦ ¦¦¦¦ with ¦¦¦
Silence ¦¦¦¦¦ ¦¦¦¦ ¦¦¦¦
(Blackout of November by William Cullen Bryant)
Day, you have bruised ¦¦¦ ¦¦¦¦¦¦ me,
¦¦¦ ¦¦¦¦ ¦¦¦¦¦ ¦¦¦¦ ¦¦¦ ¦¦¦¦¦¦¦ ¦¦¦¦¦ ¦¦¦¦
¦¦¦¦¦¦ ¦¦¦ ¦¦¦¦¦ bruised my soul,
Left me ¦¦¦¦¦¦¦ ¦¦¦¦¦¦ ¦¦¦ ¦¦¦¦¦¦
¦¦¦ ¦¦¦ ¦¦¦¦ ¦¦¦¦¦¦¦ a gift from you,
¦¦¦ ¦¦¦¦ ¦¦¦¦ ¦¦¦ ¦¦¦¦¦ ¦¦¦¦¦
¦¦¦ suddenly ¦¦¦¦ ¦¦¦ ¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦
I saw a moon ¦¦¦ ¦¦¦ ¦¦¦¦¦¦ ¦¦¦¦¦
A wisp of beauty ¦¦¦ ¦¦¦¦¦
¦¦¦ ¦¦¦ ¦¦¦¦¦ ¦¦¦ ¦¦¦¦ ¦¦¦ ¦¦¦¦ ¦¦¦ ¦¦¦¦¦¦
¦¦¦ ¦¦¦ ¦¦¦¦¦ ¦¦¦ ¦¦¦¦¦¦ ¦¦¦ ¦¦¦¦ ¦¦¦ ¦¦¦
¦¦¦¦ a maiden moon ¦¦¦¦¦ up in the sky?
(Blackout of "The New Moon" by Sara Teasale)
