Iridescent Birds-of-Paradise
do their extravagant mating dance.
Wondrous spectacle before my eyes
as they pirouette and prance.
My sanctuary,
birds of paradise flying,
dew dropped leaves hang low,
tropical flowers in bloom,
the color wheel comes alive.
Skinkle, skinkle who is there?
Under the Moon you gleam like gem
Above the tree you dream, not hem
Strinkle, strinkle birds in pair!
When some Birds-of-Paradise sit to dine,
they may eat a fruit like a clementine.
Others prefer an insect to a plant,
favoring a futilely praying mantis.
Brightly coloured plumage; exotic and appealing
Birds of paradise conveying visions of pride
The multicoloured duplicities hide
The truths that they are stealing
birds of paradise
vivid blooms like birds in flight
perfume wafts on breeze

Blue eye shadow, blue beak, black innocent eyes - bleak

Silent birds still in bare forests at God's behest
Birds of Paradise
As you move toward the door
to open it so I may leave
I notice how your Levis cage
the anacondas of your thighs.
One more move like that, I say,
and I’ll toss my briefcase to the floor
and bring you yipping to the couch
and kiss your breasts until they rise
like startled Birds of Paradise.

If I promised you the world
Would you sing a love song
In sweet harmony & rhyme
If I promised you the world
Would you lay it on the line
& stick by me until the end
If I promised you the world
Would you throw caution
To the wind & come running
If I promised you the world
Would you buy me a bouquet
Of lilacs, roses & birds of paradise
roses bloom in June
red white pink yellow petals
love's embracing gift
jasmine whispers soft
sensuous and wild fragrance
Moonlight's gentle touch
birds of Paradise
crowned beaks following the sun
show me divine path
lei of fragrant blooms
adorning necks with love's touch
aloha in air
lavender looks soft & pretty
Daisies bloom to show beauty
john died..
his earthly bones offered to sediment
tangoing with gold flecks and blight
his soul woven into the tapestry
of eternal light
before he left
he sowed rows of gems
across the universal garden
for birds of paradise
to
perch upon
breath in
gently palm
weave nests
temper feral hearts
with waves of warmly calm
john died..
John the Poet died

ISLAND
This small island sits just offshore in warm shallow water.
Formed by age-old coral which is as old as time, a small oasis.
Many types of life flourish here from bright birds of paradise
to long deadly sea snakes. On this timeless place nature rules
her own little world where man never ventures
for a sea mist always hides this small place,
never seen twice, an optical illusion.
gray days are make believe,
with a scintilla of birdsong,
almost annoying in its tease,
like a chimerical haze.
hope remembers the sun,
its shining rays,
elaborate feathers,
and paradisiacal dance.
green moss, creeping ivy,
budding oaks, streamers
of newborn pink willow,
stunning blue eyes of paradise
these Winter bones ache...

The dance of the crows
Deadly birds of paradise
They fly into the air
And dance around in circles
Going around and around
Flying to its peak
Fluttering its wings
This dance of the crows
Takes over the birds
The end of life
The black death they are
A completion of the end
Absence of hope
A terrible demise
I don’t want to observe
The dance of the crows

Here we are
this and now
never turn your heart away !
Hear the song
that comes out strong
then sweet ...
pure upon your lips of red
Birds of paradise
fly high
as they soar towards
the sun !
Here we are
you and I
living for the other
as if we'll never die !
I swoop down from sky
flying in on a light breeze
that whispers sweet promises.
Touching down on lush ground,
I open the door to Wayra.
Led to a forest,
I’m drifting with a river
that murmurs ancient secrets.
The door has led me home
among the birds of Paradise.

My aorta beats in golden poppies,
pulsing down slopes to pool
in a bruise of purple sage.
Though my eyes gleam
with lemon marigolds
snow caps of porcelain lupine
melt on my lashes,
undulating in a quiet tempest
of periwinkle asters.
Beneath a bluebell sky
the sun colors my cheeks
with the blush of primroses
as monarchs lilt
like birds of paradise
among velvet morning glories
and a shy alyssum breeze
caresses my emerald cloak.

Birds of Paradise,
those lovely colourful gems
high up in the Jacaranda.
Can still hear their mating call
Their brilliant plumage shining
like some vivid precious stones,
moving rainbows between leaves
fluttering feast of splendour
