You are my beguiling barn owl
You make me to scream and howl
and when your aloof
i don't give it a hoot
and i long to caress your soft jowls!

Night air seeping in is anything but serene,
hear gossip through my window screen,
mockingbird mocks a few,
barn owl repeats who,
bird talk just like human beings!

As the yellow sun slowly lowers over the fenny horizon
a barn owl slowly lowers its flight over the road towards
the gently undulating yellowing land on this still sunny day.

Barn owl
silently swoops
spreading its wings, talons
wide with striking impact snatching
its prey.

Barn owl lands on the soft grass
With a giant whump
Scaring away mice and chipmunks
They scatter in many directions
A garter snake was not as lucky
He gets carried off in giant talons
Lunch for owlets

On his face is the smirk
of a tired barn owl,
like a ***** cross between
a frown and a scowl;
most expressive is the skewed
side of his mouth
that's now sliding down a few
pissed degrees south!

Her wild barn owl fantasy started in the middle of the night
But while she was dreaming, two boys came into sight
One was carrying a teddy bear, which was trailing behind.
Don’t lose your baby! I called out, for this dream was mine!

In silent air on silent wing
the deadly flight to one will find
unwelcome communion in the gloom
that hails the never-ending night
The heart shaped face belies the truth
imparting spiritual grace
a beating heart then nothing more
a flash of white then empty space

Blank verse
October evening, gold and gray
Storm clouds gather up above
Winds will whisper, trees will sway
With barn owls and with mourning doves
October evening, gray and gold
Soon the lantern shall be lit
And hoards of specters, young and old
Like moths, will all be drawn to it.

A hazy full moon sighs
As poets search
For her beauty
Lose it in
Syllabic paralysis
Stuttered
Alliteration
Conjures up images
Stolen
From magazine covers
A barn owl
Cherishes
Her shadows
Wolf eyes
Reflect her gaze
A silent lake
Swallows her
Apparition
As frogs
Recite
Her poetry

A
Barn Owl
sits up high,
head twisting round.
Rustling undergrowth,
he swoops silently down.
Shrill screech of terror and pain,
the evil deed done, he returns home.
Three fluffy chicks hungrily await,
they feast, stocking up for the winter months.

Hey you! tableau
Over here, quick zoom
Film me, not the moon
Ignore that, barn owl
Wise guy, big eyed fowl
Shut up, crater head
I just snapped, then fled

I have seen masks that give me a fright
But the barn owl masks are truly not right
They turn the warriors into crying babies.
Running away as if we all have rabies.
The barn owl masks are spooky for sure.
They have scared the Trojans and Aztecs pure.
We think this is why the Mayans ran away.
Have you seen them? Asked my frightened Cousin May.

Songbirds are singing,
voices are ringing,
morning arrives in the vale.
Hummingbirds humming,
woodpeckers drumming:
everything hearty and hale!
Throughout the forest:
katydid chorus;
Barn owl has something to say.
Crickets are chirping,
bullfrogs are burping,
glorious end to the day.

The clouds form deep in the valley
The evening time darkens the skies
Rain falls a pitter patter intensifying slowly in heavier lines
Deer takes shelter under the central oak
The moon shadows drown the barn owl flight
Nature settles down for the night
A cold, drenched cat clambers through its cat flap to be home warm
A homeless girl watches with no where to go.

Dramatic Verse
Is it a hoot owl? Someone queried.
I had no idea. Wondering myself.
There are so many kinds of owls.
I had researched them.
It is probably not a barn owl I guessed.
For the barn had been torn down.
Two nights later I discovered my error.
Staring at me from the top of an elm tree was a large barn owl.
She looked at me in an accusing way.
How long will it take to rebuild that barn? I asked my husband.

Prose Poetry
Great Horned Owl challenged Great Gray.
Northern Saw-whet flew away.
Snowy Owl decided to stay.
Mouse scurried, afraid he would be prey.
Northern hawk took bets that day.
Black-capped Screech thought it was gay.
Barn owl got highly into the fray.
Farmer’s gun scared us all away.
We will have a duel another day
Great Horned Owl said to Great Gray
When he said it he dropped his prey.
Juicy rabbit hopped away.

it’s got me in it’s cold fanatic grip
still able to quip the foes
but finding the prose
far too inadequate
to describe what I felt inside
and went through tonight
in that old abandoned house
whether it was a mouse
or a barn owl
I sure as hell
got the hell scared out of me
let it be, I think, but I don’t
part of me won’t let go of the hope
that there’s something out there
creepier than I’ve ever seen
happy halloween

At harvest time
Where a white ghost flies
Across a blood red moon
Behind the fields the rolling hills
Are purple, pink and blue
Over a dreaming wheat field
A barn owl patrols
Noiselessly it glides
Over the golden yellow drifts
Suddenly, it flaps its wings
And stares down intently
Below on the soil a startled vole
Sees a white star fall
A squeak and the owl is gone
And with it the limp vole.

The radiance of day withdrawn
An old moon a lamp up high;
A barn owl keeps still across the lawn
While orioles decide to fly.
Robins nestle for the night,
Sky paints a deep shade of blue
Even the gust falls with the light;
So we shall take our rest too.
Evening is a memory now
Secure in calm of dawn all right…
Lullabies are heard from each bough
In the glow of silver white.

The energy of Autumn is in the air
with small but subtle colors seeping
into the receptive scene everywhere.
Harvesting fields are being drawn
as each new day has its very own
ever changing, brilliant dawn.
The lake is decorated with the first fall
of the Live Oak's rippled leaf.
A sweet warm wind scatters them all
as autumn ushers in it's eager belief.
The last of the apple picking will begin,
as the old barn owl sings it's song of
summers colorful end.

White faced barn owl was looking for his own barn
He had been chased away from his beloved by his challenger
It hurt that she had preferred the bully to his sappy lovingness
There is something better for you, the meadow winds said.
He did not believe it, until the fireflies began to surround him
A comforting army of blinking soldiers, gave him hope
Yes, he thought, there will be sweeter future days.
There is a better woman out there for me,
And of course, there was.
