That, I wish I were the rose,
You kissed and left for the crows.
For, flawless I would be beneath the tip,
Of your sweet tasting lip.
O Caroline, answer me or is that even your name,
Or did you change it to Annabel, just to put this love ever rising to shame.
O Caroline, O Annabel,
Whichever is fine, as long as my heart doesn’t dwell.
On this Rose you kissed and left to decay,
To the beaks of these, crows to sway away....

The ocean, ours; the wild hammock,
ours; sand dunes, ours; walking the pipeline,

ours; serendipity in a time of liberty, ours
We had the sea when it was free,

the Fort, the Port, and around the bend
of our treasure island, free range

to a South End of untarnished beauty--
never a thought that that could change.

And, YES, Lord, we did swim nude,
because we could in cover dark

of no full moon --not about sex
in our Annabel kingdom,

but freedom.

there’s no portent here
destiny
or a sign

self-made

it’s till the end
art
truth
without seeing

but the Raven
looked sorrowfully
croaked something
and jumped into my eyes

God took the strength of a mountain,
The majesty of a tree,
The warmth of a summer sun,
The calm of a quiet sea,
The generous soul of nature,
The comforting arm of night,
The wisdom of time
The power of the eagles' flight,
The joy of spring morning,
The faith of a mustard seed,
And the depth of a family need.
 
Then God combined these qualities
And there was nothing more to add.
He knew his masterpiece was complete
And so he called it "Daddy,Papa,Papi,Dad"
