you are in a bathroom
filling a hot tub,
slowly the steam
covers the mirror...
and the mirror loses it's reflection;
that loss of reflection,
is my memory fading !

Mother of mine
Of muted eyes
Hello, it’s me
I miss you
Blanket of malady
Dims your light
Night, fright
Who are you?
Reminisce a thought
I am your beacon
Recall, evoke
Where are you?
Echo my name
I am your son
Birth, death
I love you

My love
has dementia
I visit
His girlfriend storms off
screaming nonsensical words.
One second of recognition
Fleeting. Gone now.
A soft forgetting of his eyes
He has no idea how loved he is,
resigned to the alzheimers unit
I tell him goodbye but
can see he has already left.
Affects so many people’s
Lives, that we try hard being
Zealous, by offering them
Help and support for all those
Effected by this disease.
Involved in their care, and to
Maintain pride and dignity
Every day, so that we can
Remember them, and just how
Special they have always been.
No sleep tonight
my dreams upset my mind
it's all about
losing thoughts to time
It's like I was never young
nor hearty, nor hale
like disabilities came early
and wiped my memory clear
Now I worry
what will happen
when my thoughts are no longer honed

Where have l gone
Will l be back soon
Have l left this earth
Been flown to the moon
If l ever return
Will it be the same
Jumbled and muddled
Thoughts l no longer retain
I am lost in my head
Rambling around
Confused, alone ,afraid,
Has “ME” vanished…..never to be found
You have left me without leaving,
Your presence here beyond deceiving.
We share a space where you are not,
You’ve gone on to I know not what.
Desertion was not your plan at all,
But your mind, by a siren call,
Loosed our forever knot,
And left me looking where you’re not
For the love and life we shared,
Shattered now with no hope spared.
many years have passed
since I told you
I wanted the moon
since you promised
you would give it
perhaps you were
busy with other things
maybe jumping
from saturn to neptune
or riding the milky way
now you kneel before me
offering your hands
full of moondust
but it seems as though
my heart forgot
as if my love is
sick with alzheimers
Unlock the box, where is the key?
I want to remember the treasures of the past.
What my child's heart, held dear.
Wipe the dust away
I could paint a portrait here

Confusion, anger, helplessness.
Where is it?
What did I do with it?
Did someone take it?
Denial
That doctor is crazy.
There's nothing wrong with me.
Everyone forgets things now and then.
They're trying to get rid of me.
Conspiring against me.
They want what I have acquired.
No one cares what happens to me.
My only friend is the dog.
The only one who still loves me.
He is at their mercy too.

To the mind that’s choked as a stagnant pool
With algae covering its simplest thought.
Departed is the recall of this magnificent tool
Absent is the passion for life once sought.
Deadpan eyes meet those ensconced with pain
Seeking much patience and understanding;
From the life that was, let the memories remain
Sometimes life seems cruel and demanding.
why is the coffee pot making Kool-Aid again?
I stared at my husband. Was he bonkers or what?
He is older by seven months, has Alzheimer’s kicked in?
I have not had coffee for a week, so I have no answers.
I do know, that when I was drinking coffee, the pot was fine.
the pot sat empty on the counter, giving me a forlorn look.
Kool-Aid huh? I love purple and red Kool-Aid.
I decide to give the pot another spin.
All I get is coffee.
Now I am disappointed.
rejuvenation at the utmost flavor
flying toward my future assignment
angels try to stop me
they do not recognize my impulsivity
until I get closer
wings appear and that aura
mine is pink this time
I had been hoping for orange
the gates slam shut
not so fast my guardian hollers
he has to cut the silver cord
my life review is terrific
so many wonderful moments
my alzheimers had slammed them shut
and locked them away
but here I am again
refreshed and ready to begin anew
