Alzheimers - Love Without Hope

She sits alone with her distant stare
He visits daily but she is unaware.
No future hopes to speak thereof
Yet still husband, wife, and deep true love.

ALZ, is a terrible affliction. Losing golden memories, know knowing loved ones as one is about to pass on. I've been studying this black plague. So close to home it is for me.. Fav'ing your fine poem! A7

Heading into autumn here and it's been so busy thru the summer months. I do apologise profusely for my slackness in replying. I've had this week off following my daughter at a sporting event so hopefully I've caught up with most. Fingers eyes and toes crossed . : )

Thankyou Connie. I can still remember that stare from my grandmother. It's a subject I have some familiarity with.

Just perfect for the contest. A love that remains even though memory fails, sorrowful and beautiful at the same time. Congratulations!

A sad reality for many ... I've never encountered it myself, but my best friend had a grandparent that suffered through this. Not only with the forgetful memory, but she also reverted back to a more childlike state, unaware of how old she was. Congrats on your winning poem!

I've thought about this often and I would just about prefer to die from anything else but Alzheimers. I wouldn't want my family to suffer, because they are the ones that it affects the most.

Your poem was awesome, creative and unique. You did a wonderful job with the topic “Love Without Hope” ..Congratulations on your placement..Sara..Alzheimer's Disease steals away memories for so many people..It is hard for the family to watch their love one decline both mentally and physically.

Thankyou Sara for hosting this competition and for the placement. I've had first hand experience of this horrible disease, watching my grandmother decline. The Alzheimer's charity, is one I put my hand into my pocket for, very quickly.
