We won't ever be anybody's red
caped tin horned hero.
       We seem local and suburban.
                    All pleased.

The Geese Are Back
The geese are back
Although I haven't seem them
Have they settled in...unpacked?
The geese are back
Obviously didn't read the Almanac
Did I miss it, never heard a quack?

WINTER
in
anger-
whips up the waves,
pounds the shingle
shore
SPRING
in
action-
brings to life
and feathers its
nest
SUMMER
so
lazy-
rests the soul
and flowers the
land
AUTUMN
so
mellow-
scents and sounds
in the harvest
home....

Shadowless
Neither Punxsutawney Phil today
Nor Staten Island Chuck
Saw their shadows when emerging,
Which to many is good luck.

It predicts a shorter winter
And an entryway to spring,
Though there's skepticism surely
When a groundhog is the king.

Still, we hark to their predictions,
Causing many to rejoice.
Yet, the almanac, to me, would be
The harbinger of choice....

Sky Watch
After all the scientific calculations, a cloud-bank
obscures the heavens. No night breezes
could erase the silence of the dark.

But still the promise of the almanac awakens
old memory and legend. The cold halls
echo with some half-forgotten prophecy.

Ageless conjunction in the heavens, planet
and comet, and star alone, connected
somehow to us, a long-lost hope to be reborn....
