Seconds Poems

His Last 8 Seconds

The only child
but favorite
of two ‘outlaws’
mare and stud

He bucked each
gelded moment
on their wild ride
of love

Until that day
he up and left
their branding iron
of pain

To wander high
and lonesome
mongst the free
and tumbling sage

In search of one
last bronc to mount
that one last
horn to make

And spur the wreckage
of his youth
as Angels
— pull the Gate

In the silent dance of time, where seconds fade like grains of sand,
We will find ourselves on a train platform, where trains carry unfulfilled dreams,
Or perhaps in a park, where pathways shelter steps of longing and hope,
Under the watchful eyes of pigeons gathering like thoughts on the still-wet bench.
Under cold raindrops falling like blessings from

   Momma said, "Don't chortle!
                         It's rude.

   But I won the game!
   My small fame.
Can't I just enjoy the win?

The sand swirls the seconds in a gentle ash whirlwind
time blows its song upon the columns of a deaf temple
the king of memories scatters his crown on dry sand
the vassal of regret carries silences in sacks of heavy light
each moment pulses in the palm like a glass fish
I hear the future tremble under the eyelid

In the whirlwind of time, who said that seconds are decreed?
That your steps must align with others’ concrete success indeed,
That arrival is an unyielding mandate, and deviation a defect?
You see them climbing the spires of their creation without regret.
In iron and glass they carve their legacy, while you remain silent,
A shadow frozen in the ruins

Premium MemberSeventy-three seconds

One thought, igniting the dream,
Seven bold souls, steady as they seem.

Ten missions past, Challenger soared,
Twenty-five flights, the program roared.

Tick-tick.
A countdown clear.
The world leans close.
The clock draws near.

Thirty-six degrees—a frozen doubt.
A seal strained tight; the gas leaks out.

Ignition. Roar. Climb. Silence screams.
A nation watches shattered dreams.

Seventy-three seconds, sky turned to flame,
History echoes their hallowed names.

At 5:00

Ten Seconds

I'm down on the ground,
My brain starts to pound,
It may not be fun,
But ten seconds aren't done.
10 seconds remain.

I still have time,
To arise again,
The timer hasnt hit ten,
Time isn't my friend,
8 seconds remain.

I punch hard, I kick,
I choke, I feel sick.

I try to yell, over the incessant chants,
This is the last time, my last chance.
Five

Each second dies so brief it stays
among the minutes, hours, and days
of living’s murmuration spell,
in which we mortals have to dwell;
as each moment slowly decays.

Time is inconstant; it betrays;
traps you in it’s alluring maze;
then so, quite when, it’s hard to tell,
each second dies.

Time is not all that it portrays,
that of a roll of endless days.
Too

In My Last Seconds

In my very last seconds

Because of life-long inclination
Training and habit
I confess, repent
And take Christ into my heart
As my lord and savior.

And yet I’m not,
Nor ever have been,
A Christian.
Is this a contradiction?
Is this an impossibility?

It all depends on
The meaning of Christ.
And what too many
(Especially Christians)
Don’t understand
Is that other religions
Have the very same concept
With

In the cathedral of time, where seconds drip like holy myrrh on the altar of eternity,
We stand, creatures of light draped in mantles of shadow and doubt,
With golden hands weaving the veil of reality, yet eyes covered by scales of ignorance,
While the Great Weaver watches silently from behind the cosmic curtain.
Our ship of destiny sails

Think and plan
Time frame
Acceleration with a quickness
You are the valued time witness
Time doesn’t stand still
Your time to fulfill

Time is steadily ticking
Seconds into minutes
Movement must be swift
True accomplishment
Well established
Time is not on your side
It is on preset

Premium MemberALL OF 90 SECONDS HEY PRESTO

It’s my graduation,
What an awesome day,
What can I say,
Up a few steps,
Then capped,
Then down a few,
Between me and you,
All of 90 seconds
No more,
No fuss, no trumpet,
No encore,
I studied, I slaved,
I cried,
I worked through
The night,
For 4 years,
For this honor,
My family hardly
Heard my name,
But this
Was for me,
My moment of fame.
Made all the
More special,
With the presence
Of my
