Before Easter

A late March thundershower floats toward me
Like a plucked flower
Handed over on a walk to a lover
With a smile

Down this afternoon path
That breezes past
Spring-born ponds
Erupting
Of Peepers ululating and Chorus Frogs ratcheting
In a wave of Gnawa music.

The surface
Puckers
Diacritic raindrops
Slowly
Softly

Each plop and their purple ripple
Has not enough splash
To generate an echo

From the reedy shore.

The storm not so

Kissing Dragonflies

The newborn dawn caresses
outstretched arms of cattails
surrounding the circumference
of a tranquil pond. Before breakfast
the reed maces say grace, and
beckon for warmth on an April day.

The spring peepers sing their
morning melodies, to serenade the
incoming day. Tiny ripples disrupt
the water’s peace. Above those tiny
waves two shining dragonflies kissed,
erratically swayed, and kissed again
before their golden flakes fell,
and gave

Jeepers We Got Peepers

Black helicopters
thrum overhead menacingly
a conspiracy theory spies 
on overheard words.
Digital drones plot and bot.

Light sleepers might feel paranoid
except they are peepers
they peer into the dark hearts
that hover unseen
We blame Putin
or Global warming.

We don't tell, or show our face
there are eyes in every place,
trolls patrol
and blood is thick today,
a sentence in a solitary place.

Just another day

Loathsome Peepers

American women are dying
Leaving children and doctors crying
There's naught they can do
Abortion's taboo
Because prejudiced men keep prying

childhood wonderment

'my Big Blue Peepers'

I came in a tattered old box,
the grand size of a man's shoe box.
I knew that I was unwanted,
around a big empty house I wandered.
On a drive in the country one day,
these people said I was cute and took me away.
But, the novelty of a kitten wore off quickly,
I ran and jumped and was just

oh, you ...
diminutive little creature
no bigger than
my pinky's fingernail
yet your sweet song fills
my chill spirit with hope as large
as creation -
a longing for warmth and promise -
bright life and joyous activity
a buoyant anticipation
of better things to come
and the mysteries and ebullience
of summer
your twilight serenade has
at long last returned
and like you ...
I am awakening.

Spring peepers

I could hear spring peepers singing in the dark
From the water near the dam
Night fell upon peach colored skies
All around the mountain
Reminders of how far I have climbed
Through the mountains of life lay before me
Just how far there is to carry on
Around the corner, there is so much more
Reflections flickered across the street

Next Monday I get my peepers checked
Certainly couldn't be better timing
Bumping into walls, wearing Cathie's sciveys
For my 20-20 vision I'm pining

Fed our bird Tweety a big bowl of dog food
Fed our dog Rover some bird seed
Rover tried to fly off the top of his doghouse
While Tweety lifted her leg to pee

Hope I don't do myself

Curious Peepers

I don't understand how they 
are seeing through me like 
glass.

Poking their heads around 
corners trying to see into my 
past

Trying to cover  up my  
insecurities and fears with a 
little  sass 

But they see it... they see me, 
wondering how long I can last.

They speak sweet words and 
capture my desires.
