Are there Staples in this staple sandwich?
I ask in the ER in the hallway
Where my bed for the night is
Where I need earplugs
To dim the constant sound of my mind
There is no room in this overbooked
Busy mind of mine
Red, blue and yellow thumbtacks, like MnMs
Make dull points, melted into the cookies
As I eat them without pain
Looking down at the plastic box that says
Staple Sandwich
I wonder
Does it really have staples?
I still ate it

Too busy, unavailable
In a hurry, late for work
Gotta run, can't talk now
Not a spare second
Maybe next week
I'm on a tight schedule
Already overbooked
Take a number (LOL)
Can I get back to you?
Who has time these days?
We can't seem to find the time
Can we?
Uh, Just a second...Who's this?
Oh sure, boss. Right now is fine
No time like the present, I always say...
Find time? --
Make time!
Please.
Care.
For everyone.
No exceptions.
All the time.
Thank you!

Valentines Night
The time of year
Where men line up in front of rows of heart cards
The night before the red lovers’ day
When the cost of roses doubles and triples
And restaurants are overbooked with reservations
Advertising their four course enticing menus
When women get waxed, manicured and pedicured
Purchase the perfect sexy new lingerie
And wear their lowest cleavage, alluring outfits
When lovers promise their everlasting connection
When long married couples fulfill a bedroom obligation
When rare romantic evenings at home are planned
When singles go out with single friends
So as not to spend time at home alone, feeling
Like all the couples they know are having a lovers night
And not wanting to feel left out, go searching
Perhaps their soulmate is out there just out of reach
Tonight may just be the night that new lovers meet
And if not, then all the hype leads only to disappointment,
For some, with high expectations of a Valentines night.

I like a slightly chilled gray day
Robust with orange, red, and gold
Wrapped in cozy covering
With a cup of warmth in hand
I like wasting a slow morn
Unburden by youthful purpose
With no plan to whisk me away
To overbooked schedules
I like not trying to manipulate time
In daily attempts to get ahead
Of all the things
That feed obsession
I like the possible anticipation of snow
That will upend routine
And slow this fast pace
So that I may breathe
I like my cat cuddled at my feet
As we seek warmth from each other
And when she yawns and purrs
We both know this solitude
Is as golden as the colors outside my window

Some people are addicted to computer games
Used to be addicted but now sanity reigns
Easy to get hooked
Brain's overbooked
Must be strong and break those old chains

There are days when the blues are blue
And the nights are lonely, without a clue
When your thoughts wonder aimlessly through-out the day
And you sit through the longest days
When the people you love are gone
And the pain just lingers on
When hope and despair stand still
And you long for the days when life felt fulfill
But life is a road less traveled
With forks and curves that are overlooked
And you think the path should be straight for the journey
And life gets overbearing when it's overbooked
Life is not all filled with roses
There are thorns that you have to bear
It's the end of the journey that's important
And the lesson learned when you get there

A man of cloth spent hours reading the Bible
of the book's thoughts he was minus a rival.
He knew chapter and verse,
was never heard to curse.
Alas, boredom defrocked his survival.

Look at all the men
captive to their “9 to 5’s”
suit-and-tied up
or rather, tied down
by overbooked schedules
and overdrawn bank accounts.
Checking in and checking out
from check to check
and check it out…
they call themselves free,
because they are free
to quit their “9 to 5’s”
when they check out
permanently
to heaven.

Shall I give up my wings, to see the world
Give up my womanhood, to stay the girl
Strength overrated, or perhaps overlooked
self-consciousness, highly appreciated, overbooked
If we are not perfect, we're not real
If we're not spotless, we shouldn't feel
while you still have a dollar, Buy all you can
give yourself to the nearest man
Give up remnants of your self-esteem
no longer bothering to dream
No, not today, I will not give in
I've given up too much, too soon
to not feel comfort within my own skin
