ebon noisemakers
brass-blows, red-green drums
tympanic lament of grief
solace throws on brown sofa
Time and time again
I have made it here,
Said goodbye to the old
And welcomed a new year
No top hats, no noisemakers
No champagne or wine,
Just the purest notes
... Of 'Auld Lang Syne'
So, what am I doing ...
New Year's, New Year's Eve?,
Celebrating the little things
... I did achieve
Staying awake comes easily
Until the midnight hour,
Watching the ball drop
And the confetti shower
Time and time again
The countdown is done,
Out with the old, in with the new
Five, four, three, two, one!
Cheers for The New Year
We cheer for the New Year at twelve a.m.,
Twirling noisemakers and blowing ticklers,
And make resolutions we plan to engram.
And party away wearing silly tams,
Singing Auld Lang Syne with our sweethearts,
And cheer for the New Year at twelve a.m.
Conscious boasts, though we know it’s a sham;
The mind is strong, but the body is weaker,
And make resolutions we plan to engram.
And swing to music played by the band,
Stepping on toes amid dance capers,
And cheer for the New Year at twelve a.m.
While overindulging in hams and drams,
And tell ourselves we will change later
And make resolutions we plan to engram.
Company abounds chattering flimflam;
Sitting around the table sharing laughter,
We cheer for the New Year at twelve a.m.

I’m in love with the silence.
The thick layers appear
They display as opaque
But they are easily pierced
A small adjustment
Metal appliances click
The wood cringes
The cloth swishes
But still it envelops
All spaces it spreads to
Filling up the room
Also In its company
Breath moves along
The sleeping human
The snoring dog
It waves with silence
It is the drumbeat
It differentiates life
From the quiet of death
It rises and falls
Not far past the body
But silence goes further
Beyond the arm
Beyond the lung
It scatters like sand
It saturates like water
Dammed by sound
Displaced as darkness
When light turns on.
The noisemakers stir
The sun lights the ground
Silence retreats now
I wave it off resistant
But knowing it will return
Why boast,What stirrs you?
Thou with thy couple.
Sanctioning the earth,
Blowing apart all dearth.
Slaying wastes and dust,
Pouring venom to have eyes rust.
Distracting the earth of her duty,
Breeding in beasts fury.
But though has no fruit,
Even Cannot conceive is your couple:
The thick mist above giving you guts,
Both of you flee before him in rush.
Just came to make noise,
And in jiffy,gone is their voice.

How daunting it must be
Choosing a celebratory date
Invention adrift
Save the blue veined appendages
Holding firm the drift of time
Like a floating surreal image
Making its way up 5th Avenue
On Thanksgiving Day
How buoyant Time
Yet arguably ungrounded
Measuring not how life will continue
But only how existence has passed
Each year
Month
Week
Day
Hour
Minute
And second
An ancestral funeral
Survived only by tomorrow's unknown
A system invented to archive
Circuitous syndromes
Man-made phobias
Moment by moment reality
Representing synchronous movement
Rhythmically evaporating into
The ethereal collaborative
The indeterminate character of eternity
The immeasurable
Unfathomable
Moment that is now
No wind-up needed
Still Time insists on benchmarks
Symbolic definitions
The behind and ahead of calendars
Noted by way of bell-ringing
Clock-chiming
Sun rising and setting
Unlike us
Time's validation
Knows not culinary vices
Ice cream and cake
Champagne and caviar
And those other accouterments
Hauled out to attest
Our superior intellect
Noisemakers and confetti
