1. To Fly
My father was an admiral, and so
I joined the Navy. Back in fifty-eight
to be a pilot seemed the way to go:
ship-sailors were committed to a crate.
Scrub decks? Paint rusting gunwales? That’s a ‘no’.
The Skyhawk was my weapon (and my fate!)
2. Rubicon Crossing
Some nations follow rainbows, I am told:
we thought, in Vietnam, ‘search and destroy’
would lead us to our fabled pot of gold.
For years we tried it, but it brought no joy:
we lost our nerve, and switched to ‘clear and hold’.
Saigon endured the selfsame end as Troy.
3. Brainwash
The Hanoi Hilton. Yes, I was a guest.
They found my father was a VIP,
and left off hurting me. Impressed,
they wanted to restore my liberty.
But if I left my buddies, I’d detest
myself. I turned them down. That’s decency!
4. Frozen Side of the Sun
Should politicians simply sing the song?
A woman voter told me, in the hall,
Obama was a Muslim. I said, “Wrong!”
I guess I lost her vote. I made the call
I knew was the correct one. I was strong.
Thus conscience doth make cowards of us all.
A man of integrity
A Beacon of light,
The model of courage
That never shied from a fight.
An American Hero
With duty above all,
A lifetime well spent
Answering his country’s call.
Some called him ambitious
Others headstrong,
But one thing is clear
He knew right from wrong.
We fete his fine life
Salute him in death
And know that he fought
To his very last breath.
To Nothing Was McCain Some Stranger
McCain straightened things being rearranger;
He was well known and never some stranger;
By God begotten;
Never forgotten;
Had fought for freedom and fought off danger.

McCain and Fine Funeral
McCain's funeral service in over and done,
After great address by daughere the one,
With much emotion;
Love and devotion;
Duty and responsibility had fallen upon.

McCain Had God's Permission
McCain in his life did make a decision;
As he starts out will have a new vision;
As we speek,
He will seek,
And always asking for God's permission.

Just past 6,166 poems. Next goal is
6,666. That will be an interesting
number.
McCain Was Well Kept
McCain was well kept even when he slept;
Then we knew God his life would intercept;
To heaven bring;
Hear angels sing;
Trump stayed in White House totally inept.

McCain Moved On
In America we will always articulate,
To have a hero, we can hardly wait;
McCain moved on,
And heaven gone;
For more names have an open slate.

Envious of McCain
Of McCain, we ended up becoming envious;
Attitude was both thoughtful and tenacious;
Honorable being;
And worth seeing;
He gobbled up words while being voracious.

McCain and His Charisma
McCain did enjoy attacking an enigma,
Even if still had been attached a stigma;
And success was caused by his charisma.

Enjoy writing positive poems about McCain
instead of negative ones about Trump.
McCain May Observe or Swerve
McCain loves country that he does observe,
Even though at times may curve or swerve;
Never fall;
Gives his all;
He watches Trump who has a lot of nerve.

McCain Was Greatest and Straightest
Was up to date with news and reading latest,
We noticed it mentioned McCain is greatest,
On surely rely;
Always bull's eye,
And of all shooters will stay the straightest.

McCain Engine Started To Switch
McCain plane engine should start to switch;
Even though in system there may be glitch;
His engines failed;
Downward sailed;
He bailed out in an effort that is last ditch.

The late Senator John McCain will Lie In State
President Donald Trump will lie everywhere else
I didn’t vote for John McCain
And he was not elected,
But even to opponents,
He was honored and respected.
A navy pilot, captured and
Imprisoned and mistreated,
He never let his war years
Make him broken or defeated.
Most people, knowing of his past,
Consider him a hero.
For those who don’t, my own regard
Is something less than zero.
But now he’s gone and flags will fly
Half-staff until his burial
(Despite attempts to scale that back
By one quite adversarial).
