Seasons

The trees in Pennsylvania
never seem to diminish.
They stand just as tall in summer green
as they do beneath a weight
of winter snow. I wish that I could say
the same goes for me,
but the winter breaks me --
chapping my lips and turning my skin
shades of purple and blue. It reminds me
I am small and weak.
A strong wind could bring me
to my knees. The only other thing
that has such an effect on me
is you.

Together: Walking - Part 1

FALL -

Getting colder
with winds picking up
and leaves swirling
around us,
we stride
hand in hand
or arm in arm
if the gusts are high enough.
Walking together
after the dusk of Summer fades
and the dawn of Fall lightens up,
we're heading
nowhere in particular,
just enjoying the outdoor sights
with new insights on how much
we love each other
and thinking of ways to keep warm later
on this Fall day that will become night.

WINTER -

Brisk winds and dark gray
with no Sun just clouds
on this Winter day
in which we've picked up the pace
to help stay warm,
still arm in arm
for another outside appreciation
of God's creation
and the ability He gave us to walk.
Walking together
means we're not alone,
not in body, mind or soul.
We stroll along familiar places
seeing some down right chilly faces,
our own being colder than we'd like.
But, the cold gives us an excuse
to down hot chocolate
then dive under the covers
and learn how to thaw Eskimo pies
by interlocking our thighs.
Our hearts light the Winter night
and melt us down like candle wax,
but, by the next morning's light
we're still here, warm and just as bright.

You Are My Sun

You Are My Sun
By Rick Rucker

In Southern California, the Winter doesn’t stay too long,
This year, its effects weren’t felt very strong,

Luckily, I met you in the Fall,
Before Winter had taken hold at all,

Before the frigid weather had begun,
I discovered You, and You are my Sun.

Normally, through the Winter, in my “cave” I hide,
But, with you, I can now go outside,

You are just so Hot,
About the Cold, I flat forgot!

A simple Kiss from You, can melt me down,
Make me silly, like a clown,

Being alone was my greatest fear,
No longer afraid, now that You are here.

Deliriously happy, and feeling bold,
Now that I have You to hold.

I am happy, in any season,
And you are the reason.

I no longer fear the weather,
Every day, sunshine on the heather,

Too bad not every man could have one like You,
I can’t imagine the Happiness that would ensue!

The Last Ovation

to face that winter night
to watch the heap below
the sweep, the belching chimney pipe
and lights, dulled by fog and snow
the wind, as well, it swallowed whole
became that final movement - the last ovation
and winter took its hold.

and, in watching this unfold
I saw the soul of man, who was alone
that is to say, he waits for spring
until, at once, she took his hand
and losing sight of all that cold
the wind, the snow, the buried heap,
that tired soul of man, asleep
with frost upon his weathered brow
and leather on his feet

Rapid Winter Blue

Winter trees and Winter moon,
Winter stars and Winter gloom,
Winter night and Winter noon,
Winter skies and cold goodbyes,
flames of passion,fire dies,
Winter Snowflakes,tear drop ice.
Winter Mist and fading smiles,
Winter dreams and Winter lies.
Winter,Winter,Winter pain,
Winter Wind and Winter rain,
Cold blue Winter,Once again.

A Summer of Dreams

all those things that we remember
walks in the rain and jumping puddles
laying on the beach under star-lit nights
that summer made of dreams
now the leaves drop from the trees
as upon us winter creeps
the years fly and time passes by

all of the plans we made
a future of blue sky and gold
that fades as it grows cold
extinguished like the candles glow
where did the hopes all go
that summer made of dreams
the leaves dropping from the trees
and winter is starting to creep
the years fly and love passes by
Form: Verse

Long While Ago

a colder winter than I remember
much more than the one before
that's when I had you for warmth
that was a long while ago

can you feel me letting go?
can you feel me slipping away?
does it mean anything to you?
as it all starts to quickly fade

I don't think you could see
how much this all hurt me
as I fought not to let it show
as I tried just to let it be

and it's colder than I remember
colder than the winter before
and it won't get any warmer
when I can finally close this door

Four Kinds of Lonely

There’re four kinds of lonely, and I know them all,
One of them’s summer, and one of them’s fall,
One of them’s winter, and one of them’s spring—
There’re four kinds of lonely, to each one I sing.

In spring-time I think of that year when we met,
In summer I think how you hadn’t left yet,
In autumn I think how you left like the leaves,
In winter I hear you when wind hits the eaves.

In spring-time I look at those flowers you grew,
In summer I walk through the woods we once knew,
In autumn I miss you, and I always will,
In winter I stand by your stone in the chill.

Absorbed

What soul is this that pass my window pane?
No fairer sight than thee as I awake.
The sun that lights the sky but is so plain,
grows dimmer, as it passes in your wake.
At times, the spirit in you burns so bright,
that blossoms bloom when winters on the wane.
And when the sun is covered by the night,
that strolls across a bright blue winter main,
when winter nights are covered with a shroud,
they brighten in the flicker of your eye.
This life you've touched has made me very proud
yet, touches every soul beneath the sky.

Reflections in the winter moon you light,
that draws me to you every winter night

Premium Member Summer Mourned

In coldness of a winter night
With sliver of a moon for light,
I walk along the frozen way,
Remembering a summer's day.
A day when flowers bloomed in pride
And brightened up the country-side.
The trees encased in green array,
Whispered "The easy times will stay".
But loveliest of days don't last ,
Too soon the verdant beauty's past
And with our lives and loves in pain,
We doubt the lushness comes again.
Come, come, my love and walk with me.
The wind is blowing out to sea.
Seasons forever roll around.
Lost summer's love can be refound.
We'll seek the violets where they hide,
The daffodil's winter abide.
The tiny snowbells showing through,
Are proof enough love can renew.
Triumphantly, one bright spring day,
The blossoms as a love bouquet
Will cheer a winter near dried heart.
Just so a true love can restart.
