I am from the Midwest
We eat our cattle while they are running
Condiments?
Ha!
I scoff at that
Rabbit stew made of their feet
We allow them to hop around on their other paws
We are not unkind, just because we are carnivores
I am a sweet eater
My husband used to leave my sweets alone
Times have changed
Is it our age?
Unsure, but now we fight over the chocolate donuts and twinkies
We are salt-lovers too
Do not care if it is good for us, it makes us happy
Gives us the thirst we need to devour our bubbly sweet soda pop
Both of us turn up our noses at vegetables unless it is a potato
Or a sweet corn slathered in a vat of butter with salt and pepper
We are food connoisseurs; we only eat what tastes delicious
Not calorie counters
Choosy eaters? I laugh
Season providing greater work-fulfillment, Spring ushers toward
opportunities for creativity wonders, opens outdoor exercise
routines; indeed allowing natural Vitamin D basking, midst health
and wellness’ fortification.
bright morning delights
body vibrantly active
blissful commencements
Surely a tranquil period to watch avian influx, it brings
wondrous joy while listening to Spring birds’ symphony, invigorating
with peace along melodious chirps of cheerful greetings --- expressing inspiration for new beginnings.
chickadee whistles
cardinal melodic sounds
carols that blend well
Sprouting green leaves reverberate message of newness
midst buds' emergence, declaring births while flowers in bloom
radiate with growth-triumph along gardens that reveal
bounty of nature, producing vegetables in their verdant hues.
daffodils blossom
delightful tulips greet with mirth
declare vernal glows
Shouts of praise my heart exclaims to God for Spring blessings
reviving, restoring, and even rejuvenating faith with His goodness
and grace; and though I reside in the Tropics, devoid of this Season’s experience; still, I’m awed beholding its magnificence --- virtually.
fragrance wafting hope*
freshness of pleasant thriving
flourishing re-births
*Titus 1:2 In hope of eternal life, which God, that cannot lie, promised before the world began."

When summer gone temperatures hot cease
Autumn says hi!
When summer gone
Bluer, clearer fresher skies
3 month span, twix spring autumn
Alpha Omega spawn
When summer gone
Metrological difference sun position
Elemental changes environment
Astronomical empowerment
When summer gone temperatures hot cease
Autumn says hi!
When summer gone
Bushes, flowers, trees vegetables fully bloomed
When summer gone
When summer gone
Coolness sighs
When summer gone
clearer deeper skies shine on
When summer gone plants vegetations matured
Summer gone lesser heated temperatures
end of picnics and parks
walking the dogs, until dusk near dark
chasing catching lightening bugs
swimming, ice-cold lemonade
few days left back to school and work
clearer deeper skies shine on
When summer gone plants vegetations matured
Summer gone lesser heated temperatures

We used to go to the store together.
Picking out vegetables was her Glory,
‘Let’s get a nice, Vibrant one!
No, not that one, THIS one!’
She would say.
She aimed for the vegetables
When we arrived,
Like a kid aims for the cotton candy
At a carnival.
Vegetables!
And then, I would try to be efficient –
‘You get this, and I’ll get that,’ I would say
But, ‘No, I want to come with You,’ she would say.
‘Let’s go and look at the vegetables first,
You always like that.’
‘Okay!’ and then she would aim for the peaches,
Fresh and sweet and not on the list,
Just after she’d said, ‘okay, let’s stick to the list,
Mother Mary says to get everything on the list
And nothing else’
And, when I would ask her about it, she would say,
‘Mother Mary says it’s okay!’
So, our lists were never set in cement,
Unless I went in by myself,
And then she would say, when I got home,
Or out to the car, if she was waiting there,
Did you get me bananas?’
‘NO,’ I said, ‘they weren’t on the list’
And ‘oh,’ she said, crestfallen, ‘I asked Mother Mary
To TELL you to get them, and she said yes…’
So, I would rush back to the store, or rush back in,
If she was out waiting in the running car
With the window open, and the A/C on,
And GET THE BANANAS,
And she liked that.
So, we used to go to the store, and now,
I think I will take her along with me,
Now she is gone,
And get her advice – it is always good advice,
I am not especially good at picking the ‘right’ vegetables…

(particularly when nursed at room temperature)
I learned that Kombucha
best be kept refrigerated lest
said probiotic drink
served at room temperature
(incorporating live bacteria) erupts
chia seeds flying everywhere
potentially causing
serious damage to consumer
as nearly happened to yours truly,
nonetheless patronizes company(ies),
who manufacture
aforementioned healthy beverage.
Analogous to other fermented brews,
one must cultivate an acquired taste
regarding delicately sipping Kombucha
now if you will kindly excuse
wordsmith henpecked and
away from Macbook Pro
fortunately satisfied with poem thus far.
Hello, I got back to laptop
today - December fourth 2021
after few hours elapsed
got hunger pangs
during brief hiatus
experienced relapse concerning
craving vegetarian hypocrite's delight
meat product constituted chicken sausage,
which greasy entree
invariably caused cholesterol to spike.
The missus (a plump carnivore
to the bone with plucky constitution)
vowed never to purchase
named poultry appurtenance ever again
so help me dog, cuz she
(connoisseur of gluten free foods)
attempts to promote healthy eating.
Indeed buzzfeeding body, mind and spirit
courtesy fruits and vegetables
ideally, preferably, and undeniably organic
helps me feel emotionally,
mentally and spiritually fit
able, eager and willing
to staunch the flow,
whereby yours truly
would become deceased,
thus imperative to jot obit
before that instant I exit
stage door left,
the only occasion witnessing
ala bumbling and fumbling performance
(despite unalterable fact that
life haint no dress rehearsal)
courtesy painless suicide
exhibiting true grit
regarding one generic long haired
pencil necked geek,
whose demise undermined,
when his lovely bones
deteriorated analogous to
rotted fascia and soffit.
As Autumn turns to winter, so do all the plants and trees
strive to flower before the frost hits killing them dead.
For those that survive a time of hibernation until Spring.
Until then the land slumbers covered in coat of white.
Long days drag by and still all is barren gripped by ice
the ground frozen solid with permfrost and deep snow.
A change in the breeze brings forth a promise yet unfilled
now a slow, painfully slow warming of the earth as Winter
reluctantly releases her frigid hold and bows farewell.
Soon there are signs of life anew as shoots shyly appear
and almost before you know it the fields and woods are
ablaze with glorious colours coating all in rainbow hues.
Soon hot days and scents of summer will flood our world.
Once again all is well and thanks to nature abundance
flows over the fields and orchards and come Autumn
we reap the grains, vegetables and fruits already
preparing for the coming long dark days of Winter.
She counts her calories,
Reminders that even her hips
Can lie, as they lye quietly against
His leg, hesitant to breathe,
Soft as a kiss, yet longing to exhale,
Winds of respite from the calories,
Counted silently, amid
Vegetables and fruits, some fiber
Proteins in hues of solid colors,
Like a gesture to be weighed
After the sins of swallowing whole,
Devouring meals of fats
Who refuse the fast she lingers in,
Close like the reflection that reveals to her,
Stout limbs in silk wings,
Denim, gasping and blowing,
Reminding her of the reason beneath
Those calories she counts,
So heedless of the pounds she’s lost,
Her bulk, reduced as she continues,
Her journey through a diet that soothes,
Like the rain, kinder than the flesh
Who keeps her doubting herself.
If the mind, more overweight than her limbs,
Nagging at her, the culprit of misgivings,
Binding her figure beneath layers of massive clothes
Intended to hide her weight, and her shame,
Humiliation of curves who tell her,
The bulk of her life is counted in calories,
Instead of the wisdom that reassures her,
It is the love that holds her together, pushing,
Away the monsters, the skeptics
Who tell her it means more to be perfectly,
Shaped than it does to be wholly embraced by a love…
That lives inside, a love that all the calories,
She might swallow, can’t possibly hide,
Because her heart belongs to One who knows her
As a child of the light who glows eternally,
Throughout life, throughout time… despite the fears
That can plague the mind and try to define…
The person she is on the inside!
NOUVELLE CUISINE
Nouvelle cuisine the waiter said, as he served the food to me
Where’s the rest I asked him, as I’d earlier skipped my tea
Tiny bits of something on a massive bloody dish
I tried to woo my girlfriend by pretending I was swish
You can pick the restaurant, was my very first mistake
I thought she’d pick our local for some scampi or a steak
Instead she chose Pierre’s, which was going to be steep
I’d heard the food was lovely though the prices made you weep
I gazed upon the menu, which was written out in French
And scanned along the prices, which made my buttocks clench
To refrain from looking stupid, I ordered some red wine
We requisitioned dinner and prepared ourselves to dine
A puny bowl of soup arrived, we felt a touch irate
We had to eat it quickly or it could evaporate
The main course had potato which was hidden by some meat
Five al-dente vegetables, all stacked up nice and neat
A de-constructed rhubarb tart, that’s what they served us next
Though why they took it all apart has left us kinda vexed
We left a tip and paid the bill…a pretty hefty fee
Then dandered into town and we got a KFC
I moved into Rochdale in 1964
My Grandparents and I moved in together
We will not be discussing our ages
Just Rochdale and its amazes
History with a continued stride
As a start off, I who can forget the ROCHDALE MOVIE THEATER
On any given Saturday, it would be a sit down and watch movie flicks
James Bond 007 and Ten Little Indians and then there was one
Action and Thrillers
Those two were my highlights
Speaking of aroma and enchanted senses
PETER PAN BAKERY
Fresh breads, Pastries and assorted cakes
Test of the sweet tooth
My ultimate being the STRAWBERRY SHORT CAKE
Also on any Saturday morning, my Grand Mother would have orders delivered of Seltzer and Soda back then
Regarding water, dazzling colorful water fountain close to Niagara Falls that it’s going to get
Beauty and Mist
At every 7:00 pm hour, the entire sky lights up Rochdale at the end of the evening with colorful eventful lights bringing together all neighbors. Hello Neighbor of our community
That is what you call unity back then
My favorite restaurant was from the past was KING KAROL
What can be said was the Big Box of Popcorn
That’s not all, it the Mash Potatoes, Vegetables and Grilled Sirloin Steak
Never left the Ponderosa
Thanks to my Grand Father in the treat
Rochdale Newspaper, yours truly was featured with a photo of me and a white girl riding our bicycles across splashing through a puddle with the caption stating, “THE NEED FOR BIKE PATHS”
Calling Maintenance
Like flash at your door before you can hang up
All prior years in the newness then
At the Big Mall, you had KREUSS and a Men’s Clothing Store
How time flies and what a difference makes
In fact, we had two malls even back when
Participation was my virtue
You would see me at a lot of events in my younger years
For example, HALLOWEEN
This is just a glimpse of my life at ROCHDALE VILLAGE in the beginning to present
There is a lot more, but if I keep going, I would be like the Duracell Rabbit going and going with no end
Those were my happy times in memory
I wish they would return
Thank you for coming along and giving me the opportunity in sharing my journey.
They seem skeptical at first. Some heard the words and called
