DARKNESS GROWS IN THE GARDEN OF PLEASANTRIES
Meandering through the garden of pleasantries,
did you sense, the breathless pant of trees,
or hear, the violin seduction, of Cupid’s sentries,
or pierce the eyes, the blossom spread of luxuries?
Do tell of sandals, chains and locks lost in shrubberies!
O turtle doves, between your teeth, insolent mulberries.
Too soon succumbed to satin skin, fracas of discoveries.
The fruited-fountain of chocolate but noncommittal fudgeries.*
The shrieking tomb of sirens — seagulls sic the maggoty melodies.
The butterfly tresses of yesteryear sans curmudgeon cure of drudgeries.
You thought to toss away her sensuous beauty, with exorbitant lies.
No hope in her sea soaked eyes, salt preservative of glass flies.

*fudgeries - fakes (made up word)
If we could sit on Gods throne, for just a day,
how many people, would we toss away.
In our own vengeance, would we spare no pain,
with fire from hell, would we make it rain.
Who would be left, who would we save,
and who might we bring back, from the grave.
The truth is this, we sit on a throne each day,
as we cast our judgements, people get tossed away.
In our own anger, hatred and pain,
our words of death, pour out like fiery rain.
As many as we’ve destroyed, there’s as many that we can save,
bringing love to the heart, bringing back their life from the grave
Take a look inside you, you know just how you feel,
when those words of death come at you, it’s the heart that they kill.
Good or bad, right or wrong, night or day, life or death you see,
we’re flesh, and bone, blood, and water, moved by the spirits, that we be.
Often in life we have to let everything go.
All attachments will dissipate one day,
only the heart and soul survive the blow
of other fingers, other eyes
making judgments that are hard to realise
as they toss away tid bits we held dear
sentimentality... tokens of emotions
we carried safely inside through the years.
The token is just the physical reminder
of an emotion alive and well,
But it's not the token we carry inside,
which is good -
one day the outside will be gone.
Sometimes I wonder about other old women's lives,
the ones with the security of a warm home,
strong and loving family ties,
joy and laughter sparkling in their eyes.
But come on - that was twenty years younger than I am
and I can't build a past from where I stand
at this moment, in my present state of mind.
Tomorrow's always come
but today finds me paring away
at levels of choices, large and small.
I used to envy their security,
but not their blindness
not their closed mindedness
not their falseness nor their skills
in the labors of lying, stealing and blaming...
they are pro's.
But such is the path they chose.
I chose to spiritually grow.
Perhaps security was the price.
Everyone would say, did you hear?
She's the one
She's too young
How irresponsible
Wearing smiles upon their faces,
pasting labels on her back
Her sullied reputation,
a newborn in her pack
How impossible
Everyone would say did you know that he has gone?
Mistakes she made, she'll be known to fail
Mistakes she made, will be known by all
Mistakes he made.......... well boys are boys
she made her bed, she had a choice
Every voice will say, oh well......
Everyone will say
Her choice, her bed, she made her hell
Who's left to blame? Her fault, her shame, her belly swells
What was his name? Well.....shame, shame, shame
She hears the words
She holds them close
She holds the babe that she will bear
She bears the babe that she'll adore
Bittersweet, was yesterday,
Regret, they say, she'll toss away
A babe she bore......she holds with pride
This motherhood, she will not fail
Who once was frail.....she'll take in stride
And motherhood, she wears it well

Retribution is not my dog
No bone- no contrition
just another child
who does not listen
nor pay attention.
Karma please let um slide
i really ain't mad ...
life has beat um down enough
please Karma let um slide.
Karma, excuse my soft heart.
Retribution ain't always worth
the worry that it causes.
Forgive my spiteful child.
May a mother's mind intercede?
Spare them the painful warts.
I love them enough to ask this of you
when they hurt i hurt too,
there is no win, win situation.
Just more reaping of the whirl wind
Let that negativity
that they have set in motion
be tossed into the mighty sea.
Let the salt of forgiveness wash,
and toss away their lies and thievery.
Karma please, on my knees
I pray forgive them all.
Spare all who have trust-passed
against my good-kind deeds.
Because I love them anyway.
and "retribution is not my dog"
inspired by Julio Eglesias song March 9, 2016
Composed by Joan May Donnelly Ellis
To all the men I've loved before
Who found their way to my heart's door,
I'm grateful to you,
I've learned a thing or two,
From all the men I've loved before.
To all the men I once embraced,
Whose splendid presence graced,
My home with abundance of sheer delight,
And many a romantic night,
I'm glad I gave my heart,
To all the men I've loved before.
The sea persisted in her calling,
And the temptation was so strong,
Not knowing where I was going,
Desiring the unsung song.
To all the men who sojourned with me awhile.
I remember and smile.
You were such a charming guest,
And I wish life's best,
To all the men I've loved before.
To all the men who pampered me,
With showers of admiration and luxury,
Cuddles beneath each starry night,
Sipping on wine growing giggly tight,
Such were the men I've loved before,
To all the men who held my hand,
As we travelled through Adventure Land,
Who forgave when I was cross,
Comforted when I was lost,
I shall not toss away a single gem,
Left me from these men.
In that moment when souls unite in harmony,
I've soared with bliss in places of rarity,
Tasted the nectar of sweet ecstasy,
On eternity's golden shore.
Time passes and all things change,
Circumstances force one to rearrange,
As youth evolves to maturity true,
I'm reminded of yesterdays I knew,
I will waltz until life here is through.
I won't live with regret, nor forget,
The rendezvous, au revoir
To all the men I've loved before.
Are you waiting for a word that burns your heart like so much flame?
Are you waiting for a voice of thunder calling out your name?
Are you waiting for the world to shake as God reveals His plan?
Are you angry at the silence that you just don’t understand?
The Lord will speak in the silence of your heart.
Are you listening?
The world can be so loud, it can drown out the Lord’s voice
So that though you ache for silence you are drowning in the noise.
It’s easy to ignore the quiet song you hear inside.
And it’s easy to return to the noise in which you hide.
The Lord will speak in the silence of your heart.
Are you listening?
Take some time to listen in your hectic, busy day.
Toss away distractions, you may hear what God will say.
If you find that your heart longs to hear and know God’s holy word,
Open up your heart where His quiet voice is heard.
The Lord will speak in the silence of your heart.
Are you listening?
Continued from 2A
My mind drinks in the smorgasbord that lays before me
Baskets of mangos, papayas, apricots
Red and green peppers
Nuts and dates in white porcelain covered metal bowls
Spices in see through plastic bags
A stone bowl with unusual markings holds Cayenne peppers
I feel overwhelmed by all the sites and sounds
Not sure where I should rest my eyes
Fully alive yet blind to all that I cannot see
So I close my eyes
allowing my heart to s l o w down
calm, quiet, present
becoming one with my now
In that moment from the corner on my eye
I see a poor woman with her child
Turning towards them
I watch as she places a few coins in a vendors hands
He reaches under his counter for the lesser things
The not so pretty and less vibrant things
things that someone like me would toss away
These rotting things she places in her child’s hands
His need temporarily satiated
His is a look of thankfulness
Her look is one of sadness and wishes
Still she wears her tattered robes with a noble bearing
Myself I feel my shoulders slump
my abundance weighing heavily
my selfishness
my lack of need
my lack of awareness
This willful ignorance
This emptiness
This decaying from within
So I walk towards them
Reaching into my leather bag
As I fumble for my bills I slip
falling flat upon the dusty ground
my white robes covered in dirt
I am bankrupt in spirit and hands
Invisible except for too the eyes of a boy
This boy is now in a man’s body
He is wearing a white thawb
me I am a small child in tattered robes
bare feet, soiled face
clutching to rotting fruit
The noble woman grabs my hand
Saying “Come Come my son I have much to show you!”
The man in white looks at her and asks “Do I know you?
She says “I am no one...
He reaches into a leather bag and hands her a few bills
As he walks away, she whispers “ wishes do come true.

Form:
You are my addictive habit
Your love comes--I have to grab it
I really need an intervention
Leading to a conversation
About the way you hooked me in
Now each day I'm gamblin'
That my heart will never lose
If you are the one I choose
Luck was never on my side
Each and every time I tried
Taking a chance I'd never win
Another love would not begin
Each hand I tried would make me stumble
The cards I stacked would only tumble
Into one big useless pile
I'd toss away into a file
That my mind would not forget
And my heart would soon regret
Why can't I win at this game
Maybe I'm the one to blame
I do not know anymore
Come on luck just let me score
I need a love-- I will hold on
Till my unlucky streak is gone
Retribution is not my dog
