Far off the beaten track and trail
on quest for music’s Holy Grail
led pilgrims on biblical scale
         more than can be counted.
With midsummer sun on our cheek
in tents to shelter we did seek
and pitched them at its highest peak
                 on a hilltop mounted

As we climbed the lean of the hill
my beer I would try not to spill
and sat with the great unwashed till
                           olé and adios.
It was I, El Skeet, amigo,
           in my poncho and sombrero
half-cut like a loco gringo
        who waved “vaya con dios!”

We lit yet another hash bong
all up in smoke like Cheech & Chong
and passed it to each one along
                 under the cop radars.
Till late as wasted brain cells flag
with every mind trip headfu-ck drag
I tucked in to my sleeping bag
on the hill ‘neath the stars

As music and mayhem did rage
back in next summer’s youthful age
we camped closer to the big stage
                  by a shallow hollow.
I’d sit and watch the crowds go by
in the hot sun and dust and dry
under a big Waikato sky
from our camp on tent row

And as I ripped in with the guys
to our grog trailer of supplies
we made a hanging chain of ties
             with every pull tab rent.
Waiting for Cold Chisel that night
      with a superdoob glowing bright
I was fuc-kin’ high as a kite
and lurched back to my tent

The next day I woke in a daze
and walked off my drunken malaise
when I heard singing songs of praise
in some weird sh-it I saw.
Tambourine hippies, punks and geeks
and chanting Hari Krishna freaks
burnt incense in clay painted cheeks
so I got high some more

Yet in a hot wet and wild hour
            stoned in the unisex shower
I gazed many a sweet flower
          in their naked splendour.
We bathed too in waters that flowed
down where the lazy river bowed
lest my head spontaneous explode
          on my three day bender

That night by the stars we were led
as above a smoky sky bled
when out The Enz rocked “I See Red”
          and fired a burning flare.
In the spirit of Sweetwaters
we lived among at close quarters
sons of Bacchus and his daughters
            and I so revelled there

Usually, there are sounds and expressions of grief upon being informed of a passing. Each family member's passing ignited a sound or brief words that identified the emotion of the moment, unique to each one.

Case in point:
My mother's death in March of '98. My pager sounded, and at the next exit, I pulled off the freeway and called my office. When my supervisor said that I should call home right away, I knew that the news was not good. I phoned home, and my wife informed me of my mother's passing in Chicago. There was a calming, numbing, and pausing. Then I quietly uttered my first words, "Mama's gone".

Case in point:
The death of my oldest sister in '99. A call came from a younger sister stating that our sister would not survive the head injury she incurred from being hit by a car on a Chicago Street. She was all but brain dead at the time, and realizing her impending death, words ceased, and I went ballistic. A 'deep gush of grief and sorrow' overwhelmed me with loud crying, and I could barely breathe.

Case in point:
The death of an older brother in the Spring of 2003. A call came from St. Louis, informing me of my brother's death. Very subdued when I got the news, a numbing silence swept over me. The only words I remember uttering were, "Oh Calvin".

Case in Point:
In December of 2003, a call came informing me that a younger sister in Indiana had passed. I was 'speechless'. My grief was deep without a word but a silence of sadness.

Case in point:
Word came in November of 2012 that another sister in Indiana had passed. I was fortunate enough to have spent some quality time with her earlier in the summer of that year. I was with her as she battled for her life during hospice care. Although the doctor had given her very little hope, she seemed to be on the winning side when I departed for home. Four months later, she died. When I received the fateful call of her demise, all that I could utter was, "Huh". It was a grunt of bewilderment. It was a grunt that said, "O Lord, I thought she was going to beat that cancer". I could not speak my grunt, but God read my spirit and understood every word. "Huh".

Premium Member His Love Defines Me

It plagues my mind… the silence
That is truth, when the roar
Of this place, this eternal thunder
Pounding away at the stillness
A stardust sky, shimmering – graceful
Promising the heart to bring, rather
Quiet, yet piercing peace, colored in hues
Radiating musings of memory,
Beckoning to the wonders inside of me,
Feelings blessed by the hand of God
Feelings that are trembling, alive

It startles my thoughts… the kindness
Naked kisses, embraces surreal,
Like lavender sunsets or reflections
On moonlit dreams, erasing the darkness
Laughing at the shadows, eager to be
Touched by the light, the intense glimpse,
A spark of imagination, soothing
Arising on the breathless ambiance, the
Stirrings of beauty surrounded by faith
Enlightening the eternal praises, poured
Out in prayers, petitioning the most
Wonderful, astonishing spirit known –
The spirit of One so great that only His
Light can bring hope to the broken heart

It is His love that guarantees me the truth
Will rouse my devotion, clarify every broken
Thought, encourage all those doubts,
Saving my soul from the dread that comes
When there are lingering fears, tears
Sliding along the lines of a faded feeling
Who believes that the truth will never
Take away the pain that follows the grief
Remembering only the silhouette, the
Outline of a whispered verse, poetry
Found in the word He gave each of us,
The word that reveals the truth to us…
The word that is alive, breathing
Into us – the music of eternal peace,
The miracle that is His gift to each one
Who believes in His Son – the Savior, the love
That beats in rhythm with each verse found
In the scriptures, sweet songs expressing
Forgiveness, God’s gift to those who believe
He is the answer to every need
He is the hope and faith – He is the wonder
Abiding with us when we feel His peace
Surrounding our spirit with this tender feeling!

It is grace – It is light – it is love from above
That hushes the shame and frees my heart
To listen to the wonder of His eternity, His gift
Forever and always – His love surrounds me –
Gentling each piece of me with
His understanding, His wisdom, His sympathy
	The miracle of His compassion
Laced through each tear, each dream, each echo
From the hope that reminds me –
His love defines me!

Premium Member The Year 2012

With two months left to go, in the year of 2012, I must not be too complacent.
However the first ten months have brought much joy and few sorrows.
The most exciting events have been the four weddings of young relatives.
My youngest grandson's wedding came first and I was not invited.
He and his intended flew off to Hawaii for the wedding, with their attendants.
The rest of us had to be satisfied with an invitation to their reception after they returned home. My wedding gift to my grandson and his bride was a professionally framed and sealed and museum glassed copy of my double poem, "The Bride's Prayer and The Bridegroom's Prayer". in hopes that it would last as long as I deeply wanted their marriage to last.

The other three weddings were the results of many months of planning and I received a formal invitation to each one. In late August my great-grandniece married her fiance in a military wedding. The reception was held in the Officers Club and was planned to the last detail. In September my own great-granddaughter held her wedding in my
yard and the weather cooperated beautifully. It was small, around fifty guests. Rented decorated tables held a feast worthy of a more opulent wedding. The groom was as handsome and the bride as beautiful as those in the wedding magazines they had consulted in order to avoid the high expense of a wedding planner.

The last wedding was held the last Saturday in October and the bridegroom was my favorite great-grandnephew. His beautiful bride was dressed in a lovely formal gown, under which she wore...cowgirl boots. Her eight attendants wore flirty. short, black dresses and...cowgirl boots. Western music was played and a catered meal of Western food was served to the two hundred guests. No expense was spared for this wedding. It was held at a remodeled cattle barn which has been turned into a beautiful social hall and rented out for just such occasions. The minister said it was the twenty-fifth wedding ceremony held in that building at which he had officiated.

These were all joyous affairs and my prayer is that all parties will all be able to observe their 75th anniversaries and are still as happy as on these, their wedding days.

Premium Member Welcome Him In

They spoke to the people
In their own language
Even though they were Galileans
Each one could share the Word
Through a tongue that was not his own
But was a dialect given by the Spirit
Who was now living inside
Where He would always give them
Sweet peace and grace
A sense of love that whispered
To the soul with a breath of hope
Assurance that Jesus is alive
Living inside the heart who knows
The Holy Spirit comes to show us
God’s insight into the scriptures
His wisdom so that it fills us
His fire – breathed within
Where we can feel Him giving us
A sense of direction, affection
And, ultimately, correction!

To each heart, the Holy Spirit spoke
Giving the answers to every question
And a common joy of salvation bestowed

To every soul, the Holy Spirit voiced
Acknowledgement of the presence that was
The Lord of Lords as Jesus spirit filling them

To each one, the Holy Spirit uttered
Words of grace to completely amaze
Giving forgiveness and a second chance

To every thought, the Holy Spirit declared
He would bring love that would abound
Filling them up with kindness that would always last

They spoke to the people
In the language they could understand
Left them with assurance
That salvation had been found
And God would always be there
Alive within – where He is always
A friend, a comfort, a wisdom
Leaving the heart with the feeling
That God has touched them deeply
And given them a sense of acceptance
Never rejecting or neglecting
But always assuring there is the blessing
Of knowing the God of heaven
Through His Spirit, who will tell them
Everything God would like to convey
Through light, love and laughter that comes
From knowing this Spirit who brings us
Through every storm and across every worry
Into the sweet peace of God’s love

To each life, the Holy Spirit expressed
His holy impression through the sensation
That comes from knowing Him and listening
To that still, small voice
That is such a delightful mystery!

Holy Spirit, I welcome You
To breathe your fire through me

Acts 1:5
For John truly baptized with water, but you shall be baptized with the Holy Spirit not many days from now

Timeless Love

They met at first around sixteen, while they were in their teens.
A young man tall and handsome, a girl with many dreams.
Years later they did meet again this time he was smitten.
It took some time to hook this girl, eventually their history written.

He had a plan to marry her and move her from her home.
She'd have to leave her roots, the only thing she'd known.
Leave her home and family was what she had to do,
The love they shared was eternal even though it 'twas brand new.

This love they shared was a gift, their faith was also strong
They both loved many similar things like fishing, books and song.
Seven children blessed their lives, they started their own tree
So strong this love they shared, became one large family.

Both worked hard to raise them, devoted to each one,
They shared their love equally to each daughter and each son.
Education and faith were important, practiced with daily prayer
They fed and clothed this family with love and tremendous care

Each child was very different and different paths they took.
Educators, artists, builders, Lawyers and even cooks.
Each child found their partners, some added children to each branch.
All love music, all loved to read, a few even like to dance.

Their children had more children and the two were greatly blessed,
With lovely grandchildren with many traits that both these two possessed
What remained from the love they shared twas passed down through the line
A love this strong must be shared and it surpassed all time

Four generations have now developed from these two whose love began
So many years before when both had shared a plan.
Each twig shares a piece and resembles one or the other
For this love story that's been described was about a Father and Mother

I'd love to say they share a life together here today
But God had different plans in mind, for one he took away
The void he left was devastating to everyone you see
Hardest on the one for which he shared atop the tree

The plan these two created at the time they were entwined
Continues on by one so strong , who giveth all of her time
To the tree these two created which grows branches to this day
The love created by these two shall never go

A Mothers Memorial Day Prayer

Dedicated to all those who lost Sons and Daughters to war

It's Memorial Day today
 I hear the bands uptown
I'm sure there are many flags
Hung all around

Soon the BBQ will fill the air
Friends and family will come
Many will laugh and celebrate
This day means only fun

Oh to me this day means not the same
For they came knocking at my door
With news that changed our life forever
On my knees I dropped to the floor

They said my son has died in battle
That he was brave to the end
He died for God and Country
Be proud when sorrow begins

A strong and honored man he was
He loved this country so
He happily gave his life for her
If only all would know

He saw the value of freedom
He stood bravely against the foe
I still see his smile and feel his Hugs
he'd go back again I know

Our boys feel love and strength inside
In the uniform that they wear
They would proudly do it all again
Because for you they care.

There are no words that we can say
describing these women and men
No amount of gratitude is enough
To show the love within

For they wear their uniform with honor
We all need to stop and pray
Each time we see them say THANKYOU
And may God Bless them along the way

The last full measure of Devotion
My son gave to each one of us
As many many others have before
In their strength we must trust

We too must be dedicated to this land
To keep this country free
For freedom isn't free at all
For my son this I plea

Turn back to God oh mighty Nation
may all dedicate their life to you
May all who live here love Her
And stand for freedom too

Don't give in to the Devil
Don't turn your back on God
One Nation indivisible
Oh my son died for the land you trod

Be strong in your love for Her
Make it a great land again
Turn your backs on evil
For it's her people that need faith again

So today when you're having fun
In the joy of all you do
Step back a moment and say a prayer
For our children who give their life for you

The Class Guide

Me....,
a shy ..,
 and
bashful guy
always kept me.,
confined to last bench..
down my head,
huddled heart ,
blenched my breathes and
arms always clenched..

Staring with a thief eye
to each one
around me
but confrontation
was not my forte .,
this fragility always
kept me away
from my very interest
and invariably
was a thwart ..

New day in the class,
New teachers and
Classmates too.,
but for me
each day was new
and each one., who?

Newly painted class
curtained each side .,
The Teacher announces
our new class guide...

In actual fact
I wasn't a beauty gaper .,
but this time
she forced me too sharper...
hardly I lavished my time
in any admiration..,
but this would give,
drive to my contemplation..,
breaking the ice to her
difficult and caffeine beauty
eyes were clear and watered ,
lips were glossy and frooty..

Tallest and
her collar in the same way.,
I stared alot but
kept her eye away..
walk like breeze
silent and cool
smile like blooming lily.,
none of her company
can stand by her
she was the perfect dilly..

Crowd would stop
while she starts
mostly buring in vex.,
she wants pin drop silence
 in the class .,otherwise,
 bitter pills to suspects..

The same rain
I got whole year .,
Whole year
I got ,
teacher will start ,
we all will set ,
and I will get lost .,
The last day of
this beautiful phase
I was loosing carelessly.,
No courage,
No rescue ,
The day cutting readily ..

God miracle or
some boon ,
when she came ,
in her black shoon..,
shrinking and shy
asked me a favour.,
Reaching to the seventh heaven
I started quiver..

Yea....Yea ....
I did it
and then asked my will...

Very courageous.,
honestly it was
to utter such word.,
but......,I knew
It was the
last chance
and never again for
me.....,
such a coward..

So....I did
did it fast.
listening it....,
she got locked.
'No Words'
 she said
but I .....,
I did it.
did it.
Yea...,
I do.

                                                                                                by-Shagun

Premium Member Forever Alive

A million years might pass
And still, I’ll worship and adore Him
The One who holds my soul
Guides me wherever I go
Delights me with His everlasting joy
Kisses away my tears – erases
All my doubts and fears with His promise
That His love is forever alive, a fire
Living inside me, destroying the darkness
With light that survives every night
Like the wonder that realizes
He is the answer to each one of my prayers
The reason that I don’t have to worry
The comfort when storms seem to follow
Wherever I am – on land or sea
He is there, abiding with me, within me
Creating assurance that frees me
From needless burdens of apprehension

A million years might come and go
And there isn’t a doubt, I will always know
What it means to feel fully victorious
Because His love is a powerful force, trembling
With inspiration that colors my whole life
In gentleness, compassion, redemption
Because He came and He died and He rose
To save all the souls who know His hope
Is the only hope that brings any true peace
Any reason to keep seeing – that obedience
Virtue and respect come to those who don’t neglect
Revering the One who is the creator,
The light, the love, the Savior… the One
Who lifts the veil of doubt and despair, the dread
That lingers inside the one who doesn’t know
The meaning of a love that is forever there
Never leaving – never forsaking
Always alive, always blessing, always confirming
That, with Him, there is forgiveness and mercy
There is assurance and strength, the powerful
Feeling that, with Him, grace will forever give
Every heart who believes – who receives
The grace to always be at peace, always knowing
That whatever comes, wherever there is the Son
There is abiding hope, faith and love
Dancing like the leaves in the wind, echoing
God’s truth wherever they might land!

With Him, the only hope that means anything
There is a light that shines joy through the eyes
Inspires the heart and soul to always know
His love will silence every shadow with love that lives forever!

Our Destiny Is the Dirt

Everybody’s destiny is the dirt
Only question is:
Who’s gonna get buried first
Everybody’s last trip is into the earth
Only question is:
Who’s gonna leave away first

Each decision you make
carries a lot of weight
Some seem big, real important ...
some seem small, of no significance
But a ticket number is assigned to each one;
the larger the number, the longer the days
Yet, someone has to pull the short straw
	Fate and chance —
wrong house ... wrong party ... wrong dance
One wrong decision,
and the Reaper with the grim look
got a sickle ready to sever you from the Vine
	Man-made design or Divine —
wrong café ... wrong table ... wrong choice of wine
But the decision you made today was a close call,
God’s mercy lengthened your short straw
Another day given,
a delayed encore to the morality play
More time extension
to examine your life, and change some things
But somebody got a purchased ticket
to get sent away

Everybody’s destiny is the dirt
Only question is:
Who’s gonna get buried first
Everybody’s final destination
is six feet under the earth
Only question is:
Who’s gonna arrive there first

Crossing the line of right and wrong
never meant much to some
Swerving back and forth in life like a drunk
But today wasn’t a good day to drive;
if you had stayed sober, you might still be alive
Bad decision on your part,
now there’s a widow with children
crying out their heart
And you over there playing them gangster games,
flashing the gun, taking other people things
Ill gotten gain now in your coveted possession
Today you were granted your death wish obsession
You ran across somebody with a bigger gun,
who had an even bigger anger itch to kill someone
Terrible decision you made,
put your bullet-riddled body in a pauper’s grave

Everybody’s destiny is the dirt
Only question is:
Who’s gonna get buried first
Everybody’s gotta ticket paid for
by their sinful deeds on this earth
Only question is:
Who’s gonna get their’s punched first
