He neared the crest of the mountain and shouldered his bows and his arrows
They were heavy and laden with lead at times right were the feathers should be
Cap in one hand imprinted with ‘Just do it’ he approached all rapprochement
Trainers fastened on shoe strings of bewilderment the marks man held firm
Spread his legs for firm rooting and visualized wings prepared for the range
It was a fine day calm and serene the heat had cooled and the breeze had abated
Once firm in position he steadied his breathing prepared for the imminent task
The shafts were marked Past some Present or Future unbeknown which was what
They had been carefully labelled with memories contemplation and dreams
‘Let’s start wayward farer’ the shooter followed the first arrow with vigour
It landed far off the target in a wheelbarrow positioned to collect the spears
Practice may not make perfect in one straight line and the sportsman proceeded
Veered to the left and the right overshooting and crashing away from his aim
The competition was only against himself and his own aberrations and failure
Taught him about life nowhere close to bull’s eye and he got better at trying
He bowed to imaginary audiences gathered his gear and discarded his pride
Imperfection is a useful life coach and it improves resilience as an aim in itself
Brings patience and mindfulness and opens eyes away from constricting circles

Pressed
I am up to the task,
it is… right now…at hand…
I will do all that I can,
to be there, for you.
First let me call to fight, all that I have learned.
Enticing drugs, of every color,
flavors of the unknown…?
Be ware… (spoken, in a whisper of violent reverence)
I draw breath.
Cast and lure,
like fishing for men,
an evil sportsman indeed.
I stab at thee.
You are not the winner,
Here!
There,
in that crazy place,
I find it is not … I.
At all!
To fall upon my sword,
to die…
I am a cub.
A small flower in a sea of green.
Tiny, hopeful created,
mortal…
The Lion roars,
He knows your name… (as only He knows…)
Be fearful and afraid.
The Maker is in power…
and has come unto my aid.
It was in the eighties, a winter day in Funchal,
the capital of Madeira, when a woman gave birth.
She was an anonymous, struggling woman
sailing the seas of poverty, with three other
children to feed.
At first, she hesitated to have this little baby,
the fourth to come, because the family salary
did not cover more. Her husband, a good man,
who fought in a war in Africa for years,
and, in a different way, still fighting with himself,
he was of no help to the family at that time.
Finally, she took a decision as a mum,
to give light to her new baby.
After that moment, nothing changed for years,
until this baby was a little boy.
Then, he started to show signs of being special.
His intelligence, the way he faced life,
his unique behaviour.
He started thinking about turning a football
into his livelihood to have a better future
for himself and his family, and he certainly did.
As a teenager, his father couldn´t help him much,
but he also liked football, so, that fed the boy´s dreams.
He had a hard time in Lisbon at the beginning
of his career at the football school. He also suffered
from bullying, something that helped him to increase
his aims even more.
However, he also had friends
whom he remembers with great affection.
When he was eighteen,
he spread his wings to fly higher. He went to England,
where his dream started to come true.
After that, the Funchal´s star
showed that light that became brighter and brighter.
He was the best football player in the world;
Portugal, England, Spain, Italy, and keep on going.
A little particle coming from a poor Portuguese area
that reached many hearts.
I, personally don´t like football too much,
but I´m really enchanted about stories
that have so much to teach us.
And not only that, but this well-known sportsperson
is also a well-known friend of those who need him.
He really jumped and sorted out hard obstacles
through his life, to achieve the goal he set
for himself as a child.
What a great lesson taught!,
splendid, admirable lady-mum,
outstanding, unbeatable son.
He was born as a shining star,
whose light illuminates many paths to follow,
as a professional sportsman and as a born fighter from humility.
Kick - A - Cola

Dad finally moved those bottles
Love for his son Vs. endorsement
A battle A game that must be won
How can a sportsman endorse poison
Not late for other dads to emulate him
The sporty father- set a new standard
As spectators let us not get carried by
Those 4Billion$ hit on the Coke shares
That may well be another game, arena
Applaud the sportsmanship on display
A father finally decided to Play the ball
No more a clothes hanger, finally a Dad

Can stop here but to complete the image
The bottle in center stage, biggest Brand
What is the content - sugar water untruth

“There is nothing in Coke that is good 4 U”
Yo Man! why then promote this mix in sport
“Inside the leather bag you are a consumer
“Entertained consumer Deluded to - core”
Someone puncture the veneer kick free

Poem on Christiano Ronaldo moving Coke bottle
Didn't make old bones, me dad,
Taken from us far too young
Barely reached his sixties when
He was killed by Farmers’ Lung.
Too many dusty threshing days,
Noxious fumes dipping sheep,
He seemed to live a life
Just to eat, work and sleep.
A farm labourer which made
Him a man of many skills,
No time for a doctor’s visit,
No time for potions and pills.
Loved greenhouse and garden
But he loved even more
Lonely walks across the fields
Carrying a loaded twelve bore.
Not a sportsman shooter,
No, everything he shot
Very gratefully accepted
Into the family cooking pot.
A man of quiet wisdom who
Set me standards to live by
And most importantly showed.
A man at times is allowed to cry.
We never really did talk much
Never did have much to say
Sitting watching the old TV
In our quiet companionable way.
He looks back at me in the mirror,
As I look back at him with pride
So glad I could be with him
At his side the day he died.
I sat there with quiet pride
For I really hadn't suspected
That my dad had been
So very well respected.
The church was packed
On his funeral day
Most of the village came to
Quietly send him on his way.
A very famous champion,
an inspiring enthusiastic man was he
Who has now departed , yet is quoted,
for many pearls of wisdom
Vociferous king ,
of the boxing ring
A sports star
And such a sport too.
A motivating peace star who shot up to deserved stardom
The earth be proud of such mortal "clay"
Who swayed and reigned hearts,
as well as the pugilist's kingdom

But he changed track to become a shot putter on field,
In the 2014 IPC European Championships he did strive,
Such that he’s in the Rio team and backs the CP wield.
Ok! Toss on another one

OK! Toss another one
in sportsman spirit.
Other chances are to win.
Luck may respond suddenly.
Be optimistic.
Zeal always in mind to heal
a wound even deep.
Happy beginning always

Steve loves mountaineering, he was the first,
Visually impaired person to climb El Capitan,

Who got him into para-cycling ‘cos it had can.
“Climbing is something I really love, so I hope
[I] never have to give it up. I’m certainly going
to make the most of it while I can. I just hope
it helps to inspire [disabled people],” adding,
“to believe that anything is possible if they set
their minds to it. If I can do it, [then] anyone can.”
