"I will never know how you see red and you will never know how I see it." ~ Anne Carson, 'Autobiography Of Red'

Red are my cheeks when you compliment me.
Red is the bacteria in the southern Red Sea.

Red is the blood that has been shed for freedom.
Red is the cover of Dutch yellow cheese, edam.

Red, too, the lips after lingering, hungry kisses.
Red marks the sector of bullseye misses.

Red is the power of a celebrity's walk.
Red, the color of love's angry talk.

Red is love, hate, romance, and rage.
Red is the ink that edits my page.

Red is sexuality and esteem.
Red Stars is a women's hockey team.

Red is the blood of Christ and the fires of Hell.
Red is the sound of the persistent death knell.

Premium Member Extra Large Helping of Crow

I went home wearing my dinner.
I had egg all over my face.
Something I said had made her see red
And she dumped spaghetti over my head.
Maybe I should have said “Sorry”
But she quickly stormed from the place
Leaving me there with sauce in my hair
Trying to act as if I didn’t care.

The waitress, she tried to be helpful
But I know she wanted to laugh.
And there I just sat with my edible hat
Trying to make like the Cheshire cat.
And the restaurant, it got so quiet
Right after my big social gaffe.
As I crossed the floor with the food that I wore
Casually making my way to the door.

I cannot recall what I said that made her so angry.
I don’t understand why she wanted to make such a scene.
But I am just thankful we didn’t order a dessert…
At least I don’t have to wash off banana cream.

Well, my best suit was totally ruined
And my dignity looked even worse
But I didn’t dare react to the stares
As I slowly and carefully walked out of there.
And there she was next to the cashier,
Seems she’d forgotten her purse.
And I knew I was dead when she grabbed the french bread
And proceeded to smack me upside of my head…

First course: a helping of foot.
	Open mouth, insert boot.
Next course I guess I should go
And chow down an extra large helping of crow.

Leaking words of wisdom

If you are lucky and live long enough,
Have learnt some lessons that are tough,
And spent time in the rough,
Along with your accumulated useless information,
You will start leaking words of wisdom,
  worth a mention,
That will change the direction,
Of others for the better of the nation.

Of my latest leak,
I now speak,
And write for you to take a peek.

Sometimes rules of law should be obeyed,
And penalties for them being disobeyed,
Displayed,
If time for discussion needs to be delayed,
When the alternative is a plague that brings,
  tempers that are frayed,
And information that is arrayed,
To suit those who see red,
Whenever they are asked to stay in bed,
So the plague will not spread,
And the human race will not wake up dead.

Sometimes leaked words of wisdom,
Will give a hint,
A glint,
When rule of law,
Should be against the law,
Of common sense,
Which will require acts of defiance.

To know when to and when not to obey,
Is something for another day,
As words of wisdom have stopped leaking for today,

Living a 3D technology
in our visual world of reality
where one is so much less without the other
Two realities side by side
in it’s depths we came alive
seeing through each lens of a different color

Now it seems we’ve fallen flat
stabbed dimension in the back
as traders for a pair of a different view
Now a pair means both the same
distorting reality through it’s frame
so, either we see red, or we see blue

Balance left our field of dreams
with only one eye open, it seems
where half the people we all know and love
would turn their backs in angry pride
on those who see the other side
now enemies upon their choice there of

In a world where everyone knows it all
waiting and baiting the other side’s fall
based on all they think is true and right
Our two realities side by side
fueled by lies and poisonous pride
stay colorblind, corrupting everyone’s sight

The color of red and the color of blue
are likely the ones used defining you
but what if you’re not what they think they see?
How can you ever change the mind
of those whom choose to be colorblind
and live confined from the vision of liberty ?

I pray someday within this maze
the sun will rise through a purple haze
to cast a royal light upon the face
of seekers of bridges where canyons divide
apart from the crags of the rocks where we hide
to build a world upon amazing grace

Premium Member I Like To See Things Growin'

'Tis the farm boy in me yet, but I like to see things a-growin',
('Cept pesky weeds of course and the grass that needs a-mowin'!)
As a lad on the farm, tho', I had a very different view,
Since I toiled in the broilin' Hoosier sun tendin' things that grew!

I like to see fields of corn in July standin' green and tall,
Knowin' farmers will reap a bountiful harvest come the fall.
I like to see gentle zephyrs kissin' prairies of golden wheat.
So very much we owe to those who grow the foods we eat!

I like to see red and white grapes a-ripenin' on the vine,
Anticipatin' zinfandels and chardonnays for my dinner wine!
Is there a more appetizin' sight than rows of luscious termaters?
Ah, the miracle of spuds developin' 'neath the vines of pertaters!

I like to see well-tended rows of onions, peas and butter beans,
Carrots, lettuce, peppers, radishes and leafy turnip greens.
Aint' nothin' more elegant than roses sparklin' with dew at dawn,
Or the beauty of peonies, lilies and petunias that adorn my lawn!

In my autumn years I've more time to appreciate the things that grow,
To contemplate, muse and ponder and this I surely know,
'Tis the miraculous Hand of God that rules this celestial ball.
Without His munificent oversight, would anything grow at all?

Trying But Failed

it comes it goes its hard to keep
it plauges the mind, so hard to sleep
top of the list top of the mind
an anwser a question to hard to find
stessfull days at times we wish
to be a dog a cat a fish
anything but who we are
a peace of mind seem so far
kids are screaming always fighting
loose tthe plot so quick like lighting
but these are the thing that makes us find
our loosing battle for a peace of mind
the sweet smelling air, a babys smile
keeps us sain but in a while
the rush of anger quick to see red
we all have wished that we were dead
another day, tomorow is new
a quest of differance a quest or two
a mountain of questions some are a trick
tired awakens,tired and sick
the kids are awaking, screaming and loud
tryed to keep sain, trying but failed

Premium Member Through the Keyhole

Peeking through the hotel keyhole
I start seething, I begin to see red
There’s a strange man taking MY role
I can see them both romping in bed

I decide I must act really speedily
Don’t have a moment to spare
Activating my plastic room key
I see his white bottom, it’s bare!

Aiming my gun, I shoot both in the head
Blood stains the rug, it splatters the wall
It ends their affair, that love rat is dead ...
I’ll plead guilty when the local cops call

The gunshots draw lawmen to the door
Cops soon arrest me, they take me outside
My wife’s out there, she’d been at the store -
She’d let our room to a groom and his bride!

Anger invaded his tortured heart
Starting small it continued to grow
Eventually it tore him apart

Starting small it continued to grow
First a simple thing that made him see red
Words spoken to him felt like a blow

First a simple thing that made him see red
He felt the need that he must strike back
The words he spoke could not be unsaid

He felt the need that he must strike back
His one goal was to cause his friend pain
He couldn't stop his awful attack

His one goal was to cause his friend pain
Later he'd regret the hurt he caused
His friend left and didn't return again

Later he'd regret the hurt he caused
Taken that extra moment and paused
Anger invaded his tortured heart
Eventually it tore him apart

He Never

I recently,
 lost my wife,
         She ran away,
 and it changed my life.

             I can doctor the wound,
 cannot conceal the scar,
          No matter what I do,
 I'm just under par.

           She is with,
 a good friend of mine,
          He never complains,
 cries or whines.

           I was tossed,
 like a piece of trash,
          They were slithering,
 like snakes in the grass.

           Neither one gave any thought,
 what happens to me,
           They can't see,
 the things I see.

           These emotions
 turn into a fiery rage,
            I see RED,
 and I want to engage.

            I want them,
 to feel my pain,
           Thier in love,
 building castles in Spain,
            He never cries,
 whines or complains....

Tonight

Voices in my head
Making me see red
I'm not part of the conversation
It's just a demand to fall in their formation

Mental health getting worse
Medicine not absorbing putting me in a hurst
Sit or stand decisions are hard
Maybe I am for the knackers yard

Doctors say let's try another
But their demands just smother
I know what I need to make it go away
A body that can function a normal way

The voices and shadows know I am weak
But peace and clarity is all I seek
I write these poems 5 benzos in
Maybe I should stop and put them in the bin

Lonely and scared, the shadows they move
There's no clear window to see through
Should I sit and chat and go more loopy?
Or should I hide and become less human?

Mental illness cannot be seen
The last few months have taken me
Who I was is now long gone
What I'd give to be able to listen to just one song

Sadness surrounds but no tears flow
I'm so amped up but walk so slow
When will the next shadows show their face
The battle to win is now a race

The voice commands to hurt myself
I don't have it in me, so its on the shelf
Medication unobtainable
Mental health declining I'm so unstable

Darkness follows me where I go
I wish sometimes it's the end of the road
I weep right now as not an end in sight
Maybe its my life I'll take tonight
