 " . . . I experience the ultimate thrill.
When all the noises around me are still."

Quote by _L Milton Hankins (1941-2022)

In memory of Milt who loved the Pantoum form.

                                 ___________________

I have been writing stories and poems since a young girl,
writing about my cats, teddy bears, my dolls and flowers;
love making my words fly and swirl, and twirl, whirl and unfurl,
in my cozy attic room- I could write my words for hours.

Writing about my cats, teddy bears, my dolls and flowers,
though, as I got older, I wrote deep poems and stories;
in my cozy attic room- I could write my words for hours,
writing of my grief, my life, thoughts- in all categories.

Though, as I got older, I wrote deep poems and stories,
my poetry is often sad messages to the world;
writing of my grief, my life, thoughts - in all categories,
like lost leaves fluttering wildly in the wind my words have whorled.

My poetry is often sad messages to the world,
and words pour out from my pen as a song or a prayer;
like lost leaves fluttering wildly in the wind my words have whorled,
and often nature poems and funny poems ... I share.

And words pour out from my pen as a song or a prayer,
love making my words fly and swirl, and twirl, whirl and unfurl;
and often nature poems and funny poems ... I share,
I have been writing stories and poems since a young girl.

Host Nation Crass Action

Host Nation Crass Action

It is downright embarassing to review a viral video clip...
Of a group of black attired chanting in unison to a beat...
Presumably they were out in full force as soccer fans...
Easily overwhelming the rival team and their travelling fans..

In their misbegotten zest to show ardent support to the national team...
They forgot about common courtesy and sportsmanship and behave so ugly...
They were dancing and chanting insulting phrases and unpleasant things...
Reviewing such a video clip and knowing they are fellow Malaysians, I am ashamed..

How much about Singapore do they really know, that they have to show....
Their animalistic bestiality in singing, Singapore Itu Anjing...
So very disappointing to see this, when it is merely a football match...
How could this ever has to come about, how could a host nation's fans be so crass....

Could it be decades of much lauded supremacy in race and religion in this nation...
Plus jealousy and animosity from unbridled misinformation about the Singapore nation....
That brings out this shameful animosity in crowd behaviour from a host nation...

The Singaporean nation has spurted head and shoulders ahead as a prosperous nation..
While the Malaysian nation has descended down the dregs of economy as if in a comedy show...
Whither comes this open hostility to belittle and intimidate the national team from Singapore...
O, Where is the graciousness and sportsmanship befitting of our nation...
Or has the scourge of acceptable corruption blurred the values of this nation????

Hohoho...
How it stings, when fans, players, coach and and FAM are punished for misbehaving...
Will this be the lesson to to mind all and sundry the need for sportsmanship...

Secret Messages

—– My life at seventy-three, amazing, yet there are times when its blue. In context, a haibun is of the now, not the future, or past. Oh, references can be made, in context, to ether, with qualifiers. So, today, for me has been a quest, Japanese poem rules investigated, cross-referenced, and found abused. No expert am I, but I do seek the truth. No wish to disrespect, or be aloof, but, when there are rules it is for good reason. However, a thought just occurred reference Japanese to English syllable counts. Using the Japanese ‘on’ format, Nippon has four syllables, yet if used in an English haiku only two. So, if Nagasaki and Nippon were used in one line using the ‘on‘ format that would constitute 8 syllables, in English only 6. I have always been aware syllable counts varied between languages, my thought however, could be considered an insubordinate tongue in cheek account, read on.
—— Way back when, and as to how far back I don’t, or cant say, but what I can, is that over the eons of time, secrets have been transcribed, and passed between folk, ether conveying endearments, useful information, or as with senryu, cynical, or humorous comments on, ether ones own foibles, or those of others. Reference can be found that both tanka and haiku, (not 100% sure on the latter), were used secretly by lovers to confirm their love for each other, and the shorter the poem, the smaller, and more easily concealed was the parchment.
As to who came up with the restrictions, reference the syllable counts, and for what reasons I can only surmise, and that is smaller is better. Move over big guy.

Premium Member A Promise Etched Across the Breadth of My Heart

If my love were to be frozen in time
would its enamored glow forever remain
as poetry in a book, Sonnets written in rhyme?
If in flakes of snow, my heart was encased
would my affection wax and never wane?

It's said a heart without passion is frigid
and incapable of feeling torrid emotion,
but if winter frost glazed o'er me, a rose,
do you suppose my love would become rigid?
Nay! It would survive with endless devotion.

What of spring, when then I would thaw?
Would my tears mingle with melting ice?
Perish that thought for being profound,
for my love harbors no fault, foible, nor flaw.
The sting of cold is a meager sacrifice.

I will never be cloaked in withered petals
no wilting will be found in my tender bloom.
My ardor will not shrivel like dried nettles,
and no demise of my love will ever occur,
nor darkling days shrouded in sullen gloom.

No matter the harsh chill of Winter's season,
do not dither in despondent shadows,
for I will plead innocent, "Not guilty of treason!"
You've no need to fear woes of despair,
for nothing can weaken the bond we share.

Love avowed as truth, through eternity will last,
a promise etched across the breadth of my heart.
In realms of desire, I promise to linger with you,
and to this fervent pledge, I will hold steadfast
until the villain, mortality, wrests us apart.

Premium Member I'D Die For This

Gentle whispers, like quiet roses
Softly opening, pouring out their fragrance
Against a sunny afternoon,
In the winds, a breeze singing
Through the tender leaves, dancing
On the ends of steely branches

Peaceful slumber, echoing in dreams
Laughing, breathless like the inspirations
Stirred to life by His grace,
The wonder of light in His face,
Joy, falling in rays of silent praise
Coloring our hopes in beautiful awakening

Poetry and prose, both alive as a psalm
Pouring out desire through the heart and soul
A fire burning with passion, erasing
All the doubt, dread and devastation
From the soul who knows that His blessings
Are like light poured out through the dark

Wisdom etches a bliss through the one
Who knows that God inhales adoration, worship
Falling from lips in kisses, prayers
Breaking free from the wounds of sorrow
Opening the heart to the miracles and wonders
Like stardust shimmering on the night

Love so alive it glows through the skies, twinkling in rays of affection
Promising glory beyond any perfection
His love rains down pleasures, enchantment
Faith that abides, restores hearts
With His still, small voice – His abiding mercy
His love is what I strive for, what I’d die for!

Premium Member The Sham of My Humanity

Evergreen flavored mantras
did nothing to purge bitter bile from my lips
nor slake the smoldering thirst for a Rosary remedy.
Tick-tock petals unfurled one by one
as your poppy shed its last sepal
releasing a scarlet sigh across sunset skies
whilst I placed a tender kiss upon your twilight.

If but for your gossamer bloom in persimmon perfection,
I would not hunger for your ambrosial whispers
nor rue the earthly drought of undying nectar.
I stray, a waif lost with my armful of loss,
blind behind the tear-rusted folds
of a weeping veil’s eclipse.
My psyche a pauper
rich in the poverty of penniless promises,
empty as echoes in hollow holes
ringing with wringing reverberations.

In the grasp of atheist fingers I clasp Holy beads
tilling cries and whys.
Every tear a sorrow sown in brambles,
whose sloe fails to ripen sweet redemption
in the fertile sham and barren sand of my humanity;
crushed by the tusk of this damnable dusk.

Murmurs

My mind is a dreamy river,
that flows untiring - smooth and rapid,
murmuring the words it adores,
the burbles of its ponderings.

These burbles of my musings
are simple little things I admire,
that capture my imagination
and get bottled up in my mind,
waiting impatiently to escape and sprinkle
in fragments of letters and scribblings.

When creative instinct is aroused,
the poet's eloquent pen dances to the
tunes of his chords of inspiration,
soothing and healing a wounded soul.

Words that splash from a poetic mind,
brightens the inner vision of the blind.
They relate to the listener's heart,
Calming his wavering mind.

A poet's gifted verses
dig out those untold secrets,
from the innermost cores of unknown minds
that connect to those lines of rhythm.

This dreamy river will gently swirl and flow,
to become wider - carrying loads of insights.
Ceaseless will it continue its course
until it reaches the end of its journey.
May weaken then, but would not stop,
creating valuable thoughts of wisdom,
in the fertile deltas it creates,
before it becomes one with the ocean.

Premium Member Lead Me, My God

Lead me, my God, to Your dear heart
Where Your love’s bliss cannot depart.
There I find peace, joy, contentment
Reigning along mercy’s beauty
Reaching out midst Your grace-bounty
Along Your pardon’s fulfillment.
Draw me near Your presence always
To worship You with prayer-rays
Confessing sins and guilt’s ailment
Gripped by faith, secured in Your might
Thru Your Word’s light toward truth’s height…
Thank You for this divine moment!

Lead me, my God, to Your dear heart
That’s my plight right from the start.
As I win others to Your side
Your Gospel, with fervor I share
Telling them that You really care
You’re the Savior, Teacher and Guide.
Help me serve You thru my neighbors
To show kindness of good favors
Devoid of selfishness and pride.
Now, I give You all the praises
While my life Your greatness blesses…
Inside Your will where I abide!

Now, in Your heart, I breathe life’s gift…
My soul throbs thru Your precious blood.
Redeemed*, I’m bound for heaven’s lift!

*Lamentations 3:58 O Lord, thou hast pleaded the causes of my soul; thou hast redeemed my life.
