Feeling the cold winds on the feet is bearable
There's always a blanket to shield the hail
But what about the cold hearts that once emitted warmth?
Whose presence was like sunshine ripping through the grey clouds
Safe to say, the wild transformation was nothing less than a tragedy
Losing that sunshine was like experiencing the other side of a fantasy
It comes as a hard-learned lesson that everything's fugitive
'Nothing lasts forever' isn't just a movie dialogue
Neither is it just a mere narrative
It's a realization that blossoms from your battles
When a plain sailing life flips its direction
And distances you from your endeared one's affection
You need to use the loneliness to your advantage
Remind yourself that it's not the first brick life has thrown at you
Like previous times, you need to collect this brick as well
And place it in what you'll later find to be built as a fort of gratitude
Because when you'll realize that every brick had a message engraved
You will have everything to be grateful for
And the path towards your best life will be finely paved
You will acknowledge the fact that you were waiting for a jaywalker's message
It was you seeking temporary glee
But, indeed, it ended with your fragile side's passage
Today, things aren't devastating as you thought they would be
Just find a mirror and look at that glee
God sent you a profound message instead and it is a learning for life
The glow in your smile is all the sunshine you ever needed
And, that your one hand joining the other is a team that'll strive
You are your own savior - a superhero
Every time you faltered, your superpowers amplified
Your strength reached the pinnacle and the weaknesses multiplied with zero
Every time the tears in your eyes resisted meeting the beholders'
Every time you disguised your pain as the bravado of soldiers
Every time you woke up and trod outside your room; your safe haven
All to fulfill the burdening responsibilities on your shoulders
The whole time, you've fed your soul with that much-needed self-assurance
And, if not today, then tomorrow you will find yourself unconquered by your fears
Courtesy of your inner warrior's resilience..
Pull no punches
Game no Thrones
Salt your favorite food less and less
Undress not in the company of others
unless of course you plan on swimming
And do it then whilst undercover or
in a bolted clock room closet
Never let or give all your very best
secrets away
Maybe keep them well and truly hidden
for another day or moment in time far
more relevant than this
And when you kiss do it with
your eyes wide closed
And if they are not your lover stroke
partner be that rather on the cheek
forehead or nose
So as to not russel to many feathers
and end up sleeping downstairs on
the couch
Even if you don't really mind as it feels
to you much like camping and you can
watch what you want on t.v without the
fear of interruption
Make take and pack yourself lunch
once in a while don't always buy it
from a roadside van or greasy spoon
cafe
Sometimes follow your heart and stick
with your first initial choice and listen
to what your intuition tells you
And I am not saying everything will
be plain sailing and absolutely peachy
in regards to life
But whenever is it or was it supposed
or you told it will be and just exactly
who said that and the reason why
Because that sounds like something
someone would say in order to simply
just placate you
Rather than promise to tell you the
hole truth and nothing but the truth
So help me God
With a lie instead
Pull no punches
Game no Thrones
When it comes to dealing with grown
up adults
As apposed to young children
Anybody, yes, anybody, can do poetry these days, though
getting it published is a tad more difficult.
For that you must be determined and thick-skinned,
irrespective of your talent,
and it’s plain sailing in any case,
if you’re both rich and vain.
You can write about anything, yes anything,
the less you worry about what, the better.
Let it come, doggerel will do
(McGonagall is now in Penguin,
which only goes to show,
recognition comes soon, if you’re lucky,
but otherwise – late).
You can write badly or well.
If you write well, you’re sailing,
but if not, you’re making
a valid socio-economic point.
Your work can be dull or interesting.
If it’s interesting, you’re sailing,
but if not, don’t worry –
some movement will pick you up.
If you rhyme, that’s fine,
you crafty would-be laureate. If not,
who cares? There are plenty who hold
that rhymes are rot.
Be profound or light,
obscure or lucid, daft or bright.
If you’re bright, you’re sailing. If not,
the collective unconscious will undertake,
and if the sales are right, so who’s complaining
on your way to the bank?
Anyone, at any time (I’m pausing
during the marking of my pupils’ atrocious mistakes),
so anyone, yes anyone, can write poetry these days.
But don’t ask me how I know.
Pushed up from stomach's abyssmal pit
Choked off cries, constraint deformed
Packed with panic's punches
Right here where words are formed
Throat cords tightly gripped
Resistance rules my holding back
While mouth stammers mind blown shock
Fear sped thoughts fly blindly
Wild-eyed in disconnected space
Beneath pain's radar, dead-ends faced
Cant find escape through tiny slits
In self expression's cut free places
Stripped sounds,unreasoned, so distraught
I'm cramped, wrapped tight, shut up,
Curled up, gone again without a trace.
Mind flails blind at hidden threats
Going to die, my heart attacks me
Going to die, my only thoughts
Half- crazed, clownish acting out
Breathe in, breathe deep, breathe out.
Breathe in, breathe deep, breathe out...Slowly...
Breathe in, breathe deep, breathe out...Slowly...
I feel myself levelling out...Slowly...
Kindness holds keeled heart upright
Kind words rein me in, damp down fright
Caught unawares by calming help
Relief seeps through, soothing thoughts
Shifts gears back to lucid tracks,
Take it easy, take it easy, pressure's off
Life's plain sailing once again
Breath in, breathe deep, breathe out...Sigh...

An old man sitting on a park bench
Reminiscing of days gone by,
Times he has travelled the world
And scenes that captured his eye.
So many wonderful memories,
Of friends he made now calls mate.
Nor does he have any regrets
By leaving the travelling too late.
He's recorded events of those days
They're safely stored away in a book.
It shows all the places he's been,
In album's of photos he took.
He's not wealthy but is content,
Life's been an adventure to him
Sometimes it wasn't plain sailing
But his life was never called dim.
No.2
A old man is sitting on a park bench,
His fingers move over a screen,
He relies on the iPad for answers
Was all he needed at thirteen.
Computers have taken over his life,
He wished he'd had courage to cancel,
That contract signed with a provider,
But chose to remain and excel.
He's addicted to the computer,
Must be on it each day, can't wait
Relies on a spell checker to spell,
Keeps buying so he can update.
Now much wiser, he's many regrets
Missed out on sights to be seen,
Wished he had traveled the world
Rather than just on a screen.

Rob played semi-professional rugby,
From when he was 4 until the age of 21,
When he got a serious spinal cord injury,
Whilst playing that rough game spun.
As part of his rehabilitation sessions,
At Rookwood Hospital, exists in Cardiff,
He played table tennis for his arms,
Which he continued thereafter, his quiff.
That was from 2005, but by ’11’s Euros,
He qualified for London’s Games 2012,
The Paras of tremendous meme flows,
About disability sport, now off the shelf.
But he left lonely and without a medal,
Which made him determined, craving,
So he increased the work and the mile,
He sweat each day, a medal engraving.
He was World No. 6 in 2012, not good,
For him, so he worked on consistency,
And became the Euro Champ good,
In Italy with singles and team tenancy.
In 2015 at the Euros again, in Vejle,
In Denmark, he did the same thing -
Topped the charts with his angle,
In both events - it was plain sailing.
Then, the major victory came in Rio,
The crowd erupted wildly at his win,
Because the tension had been audible,
When he’d wrangled to win gold vin.
In the space of six weeks,
had two operations,
the first was plain sailing,
the second one I began failing.
Everything went wrong,
I caught a super bug,
heart, liver kidneys, lungs
oh and oxygen level sunk.
I was in a scary place,
Elias saw it on my face,
he called the paramedics
for he could not wake me,
our two boys were afraid.
Thank God I was brought back,
two days in ICU four in
the general ward, eventually,
I wanted to come home,
I wanted to wash my
hair and give it a good comb.
The doctor said OK but,
No medicines allowed,
I stuck it out,
I’m feeling better today,
than I did yesterday,
have realized that life is sweet,
and a treat, I will meet,
my maker one day,
and I nearly did,
but it wasn’t my time,
my bell did not chime,
doctors think I caught
a Covid related bug,
Covid is a vagabond, a
rogue and a thug,
will it ever say goodbye,
or does it need humans,
it’s hungry appetite to satisfy.
Your voyage began in the summer of 69.
The adventures of life lay ahead.
Though you knew it would not all be plain sailing,
Your four years of prep put you in good stead.
At times, when your sea got quite choppy,
You'd batten down the hatches, as it were.
For both of you knew that after rocky waves
A storm was likely to occur...
After some time, the storm would abate.
In the calm you could recover.
And even though the storm was bad,
You'd grown closer, relied on each other.
As time has gone by it may feel
Like the unsettlement seems to lengthen,
But because you close ranks to wether these storms
Your trust, love and bond does strengthen.
Your ship is one of stability!
Wherever your journey may take you,
I wish you both a " Happy Anniversary! "
And long may your travels continue!
Trekking along with weighty doubts,
Piled repeatedly and in attempt,
The dream so rewarding in giant
But not so plain sailing in its dark clouds.
You keep pushing and pushing
Though touring in, it's not friendly,
You keep digging and digging
Though pulling might be heavy,
And,
You keep navigating
With a wrecked ferry.
Protracted unexpectedly so greatly,
Do then surrender
As snail would'nt.
Darkest aspiration blended with lights
And heights at times,
Choped ideas jotted unfulfilled,
Delayed by self-doubts,
All dreamed,
Yet action you're without.
You keep pushing and pushing
Though touring in, it's not friendly,
You keep digging and digging
Though pulling might be heavy,
And,
You keep navigating
With a wrecked ferry.
A hostage to fortune, a throw of the dice
Your confidence blind as you skate on thin ice
The plans that made that you think cannot fail
Are full of ambition yet decidedly frail
Life’s so unpredictable, full of surprise
The sworn promises given turned out to be lies
The anger you feel at the hands of a cheat
Dreams are in tatters you thought were complete
Your shattered that life should put you to the test
When all of the time you were doing your best
You now start to wonder just how you will cope
Life undermines all but it can’t defeat hope
So never give up, whilst there’s sun in the sky
Stare the adversity straight in the eye
Face up to your demons ignore all the dread
Tomorrow, plain sailing so full steam ahead
