A Jew looks at the blue of his ritual fringe *
thinks of the wonderful world he's in
The deep blue of the sea meets the horizon
blue shades of the sky his eye's on
'Til he arrives at the Throne of Glory, where sits the King
Who inspires him to do all the right things
~ that to Heaven helps earthlings wing

* Note:'Ritual fringes' are found attached to the ends of prayer
shawls worn by married Orthodox Jewish men and some
post-bar-mitzvah boys in synagogue, as well as by some
Conservative and Reform Jewish men and women. Almost
all Orthodox males over three years old also wear a lighter
four-cornered garment, with ritual fringes attached, under
their shirts during waking hours. During Temple times, one
of the fringes was a deep blue color. (Not now, but we use
our imaginations). ~ gw
They ring my bell
Three, four times every day
They really don't look well
And I sure want to say
"Go away, you poor souls
And don't you blame me!
You're not blind. Can't you see
That I live modestly!"
But I reach in my pocket
Pull out a dollar or so
And beg them do a mitzvah Here, 'mitzvah' means a kindness, a good deed
Because I know ...
That the Torah is Light The 'Torah' connotes all Jewish Holy Writings
And a Mitzvah's a Candle
Then I break down and cry
As I truly can't handle
The quiet voice that
Whispers to me now and again:
"They could have done much more good
Had you given each of them a ten..."
One group of activists decided to fight.
To see family lose their sense of might.
Three people involved in each battle.
For the patients each feeling like cattle.
Five days of care each week is not enough.
Sixty year olds help their moms with the stuff.
Seven days a week is the demand on staff.
Eighty year olds represent patients by half.
Nineteen is the century the fighting were born.
On the fence hoping for repairs of minds worn.
Eleven is the hour at the end of a tough day.
Twelve is a base caregiver hourly rate of pay.
Thirteen is their grandkid’s bar mitzvah year.
For the teenagers, ending up like that is a fear.
Fifteen is the age they get behind the wheel.
Six teens riding grandpa’s car, so easy to steal.
Seventeen is the number we aim to complete.
Of our daily ground pushing of hands and feet.
If you wonder why I wrote this special rhyme.
It’s the memory of lost family, taken by time.
Pushups are the weapon that this army fires.
These bodies strengthen when the mind tires.
Challenging muscles with full body tension.
Using Facebook to get supportive attention.
We grind out numbers daily, big and small.
Uplifting strugglers when they trip and fall.
Getting our hands dirty just like caregivers.
Seeing the decompensation brings on shivers.
I’m mustering the strength from palms to toes.
To push back and hit the disease in the nose.
It may take over many of us when we get old.
But for now I push back and will never fold.
Realization & The World Religions
Christianity
Petro—Peter means stone
Jesus made a pun:
Upon this stone I build my church
Unto you I give the keys to the Kingdom
Hence Peter—The First Pope
Jesus “He is my Rock and Salvation”
Judaism
The Mitzvah—God blesses every good deed
The Buddha
sits under a bode tree,
Surrounded by swirling forces of greed,
temptation, and evil intent
Desires which are the source of all suffering
Through meditation he extinguishes these desires
like he would a fire
What remains is the pure,
ecstatic bliss of endless, inextinguishable love
Krishna’s Dance
represents the lifeforce constant change and flux
The vital, joyous force,
casting off our collective part of painful illusion,
and sweeping us ever onward in an endless, journey—Nirvana
Islam
Allah—The One and only God—Allah is good
Muslims worship the God of Noah, Abraham,
Moses, David and Jesus
Peace be upon them all.
However, it is certainly true that Jews,
Christians and Muslims
all have different concepts of
Almighty God
Realization
From my deepest self I reveal
an emotional rapture of the combined sacred oneness
Enamored in love is how I truly feel
note: Monotheistic religion starts at the core wherein one
God created the world and its people because He loved them!
Polytheistic religions also have love at their core.

Going through a closet,
I was quite surprised to find
Several shopping bags of t-shirts
That my son had left behind.
While looking at them, one by one,
I realized they portrayed
His entire growing up, through college,
Starting in first grade.
The school shirts featured P.S. 6,
Then Wagner Junior High,
With a special few from Stuyvesant,
Where high school years flew by.
Another group had characters
From movies or TV –
Pee Wee Herman, Austin Powers
And the Simpsons’ family tree.
There was Beavis, there was Butthead
And the South Park kids, as well
As World Series shirts and Yankees;
(We’re New Yorkers, you can tell).
Favor shirts from his Bar Mitzvah
Nestled near the travel trove –
Shirts from Scotland and from Israel,
Plus some places where we drove.
Then the final category,
From his favorite billiards hall,
Where the hours spent resulted
In those plaques upon his wall.
As a grown-up and a parent,
His collection’s surely grown,
But I love these sweet reminders
Of his younger self I’ve known.
When life's not going right
Guess you could say it's going wrong
Do what it is I always do
Pick up the telephone
Dial my favorite number
They've never steered me wrong
Of course that number is
1-800-Not My Fault
In any situation
At any given time
#1 on my speed dial
Connects me directly to their line
I seem to call it often
Not giving it much thought
My fingers know just where to go
1-800-Not My Fault
Missed your anniversary?
Or the twins Bar Mitzvah?
To avoid all the yelling and crying
Do it out of love
Remember this time around
You won't be doing it for naught
So pick up the telephone
1-800-Not My Fault
Cooking in the kitchen
You set the house on fire
The one time you do laundry
You throw your wife's tight jeans in the dryer
Fired from your job a month ago
For a month you've been hiding that with lies
Just so it is you don't get caught...dial
1-800-Not My Fault
So my friend remember this number
If your ever in a jam
Just excuse yourself a moment
Dial as fast as your fingers can
Age it does not matter
Neither being a woman, child, or man
No need to be distraught
Come on now...you know the number
1-800-Not My Fault
My sister Miriam lights the Sabbath flame
maiden is she with tumbled hair uncovered.
She strikes the match and prays for G-d's acclaim.
Like Sara in the tent she lights the flame
pristine hands in front of two eyes hovered.
My sister Miriam lights the Sabbath flame
At sunset each flickering flame frames
a wish for communion, peace discovered,
she strikes the match and prays for G-d's acclaim.
The table is set, the family exclaim,
the challah's cut, the shofar uncovered.
My sister Miriam lights the Sabbath flame.
May peace and tranquility ever reign
from sunset to sunrise rediscovered,
she strikes the match and prays for G-d's acclaim.
This great mitzvah is sister Miriam's aim
since the dawn of time this act's recovered.
My sister Miriam lights the Sabbath flame.
She strikes the match and prays for G-d's acclaim.
Dedicated to my baby sister Miriam who protects and serves.

I've got a Bobble Head Buddha
That nods on the dash
Some guy named Gideon
Whose Bible rides in the back
Rainbow covered Rosary beads
Hang from my mirror with ease
I've got all the bases covered
As pretty as you please
Have my cassette of Hindu chants
Where I hum along
Shaved my head for Hare Krishna
In case I get it wrong
Holy water in my reservoir
So when my windshield wipers wipe
I have that added protection
Never knowing what might
A Yarmulke from a Bar Mitzvah
In the seat next to me
With a case of Watchtower in the floorboard
I pass out for free
No cigarettes or coffee
Like a good Latter Day Saint
In case Jesus comes back a third time
Who's to say that he ain't
With all my bases covered
I feel pretty safe
Guess I can now crank the engine
And start out my day
I'm a firm believer in Jesus Christ (who's only come once but will return) and his saving grace.
I just watch some people these days bounce around from whatever religion makes them feel good and this little ditty came to mind. Each of us have a hole in our hearts only the true God can fill. If you're not satisfied with where you're at, that right there is the problem. Don't rely on man to tell you who God is...let God do that.
Marvelous mitzvah "munchkin" minted
Thy eldest daughter Eden Liat
treasured more'n a pearl
(otherwise known as Rapunzel)...
donated cut hair to charity - you go girl,
ha, whereat your fine brunette locks of love
will be repurposed into wigs for kids,
and perhaps even don kepi
of trumpeting Bullwinkle, his Sciuridae
friend named Rocket J. Squirrel,
and/or his nemesis Natasha Fatale.
Kudos to thee savvy
twenty three plus year old offspring
voluntarily unwittingly hood
amazingly gracefully support
exhausting, flagging, grueling...
stricken young spirits and bring
joie de vivre during
treatment and convalescence
of challenging treatment ailing,
perhaps hoop fully nipping
terminal illness in bud
beaten into remission,
whereby family, friends medical staff sing
ode to joy cherishing
nothing short of a blessing.
Said sensible, smart and
stalwart inadvertent mentor,
a splendidly mirthful and mindful lass
yes, tis biased opinion, quite a
truckload of abilities she did amass
even fending bullies who tried to harass
attractive petite proportionate physique
confident smile shown back
courtesy looking glass
and papa cognizant,
how her art of humbleness
helped her succeed as top class
high achiever at Harriton High School,
especially acing rigorous

Spellbound birth father

we knew e'er since Eden Liat
healthy growing fetus within the womb

undoubtedly healthy unbridled maturation,
I vicariously exalt storied accomplishments

When you died,
I was away,
Being happy, for the first time
Since we heard the news:
You could fight
But it would be for naught
Adding on extra days or extra weeks
Maybe a year if you were lucky.
Your goal was to make it to my Bat Mitzvah
Which you had prepared me for,
You didn’t make it.
Not even close.
When the family looks back upon your death,
We say thank god,
Thank god you died before the world became chaos
Because it would have been too hard.
Thank god we lost you to cancer and not Covid
As if it makes a difference.
But it’s easier,
And easier is what we have to deal with now.
We remember the good times,
But try not to forget the bad,
We reminisce, but not to often,
Because it hurts too much.
Your wife has a new partner now,
But you were the great love of her life,
Her soulmate.
Your daughter prays for you every night,
And we thank god for your wife's new love
Because he makes things easier.
I have to squint to remember your face
Memories of you are fuzzy,
Like looking through tinted glass,
At a person I can only remember
In relation to their death.
