Dancing Numbers

Dancing Numbers

Numbers dance in space upon the wall of distant nebulae
Lower digits do the limbo under digit trees on Earth
Produce a number of rumbas in the process
Baby ones and twos run through the branches to learn their steps
In the shade of day they count on memory to forget

Before the dawning of romance
Before attempting trips or splits
Once set in motion growing
Numbers never stop
Figures have no limitations

All numbers should be even
Or at least equal to themselves
They make their way while 3’s distract
Straight to the borders of the Cha Cha land
Rhythms follow in their dance and play

Shade from the whole numbered trees
Bridges peace from war while quartets practice
The calculus that seems so simply separated
Moves with them in tempo traction on the hollow beat
Served in triple time, on a bed of zero pillow, to sleep beneath

Beyond the cosmic wonders of the numbers
The sum of all their quantum parts
Ones and twos take place; take shape, in string quartets
Fours are not alike. None are the same
Tap stepping on the thinnest line of life

Tip toeing to the stars from far behind
The waltz is just a walk in structured measure
In step out there in hand with solid sevens on the edge
Half way to heaven as jazz plays on and on with pleasure
Numerals are merely numbers with another name who also play

Odd figures, outnumbered, outlawed by even ones
Doing splits, without permits, perfect cascading cadence
Swirling one by one while spinning past the sun
Even ones outlive everyone
While dancing upon the up above

Other numbers hide with their mistakes
Tracked down, calculated, counted, after their ballet bows
They have their days cut short in age, then dance no more
Such digits suffer from arithmetic’s and numeric ailments
Crunch the numbers numb, until the Gangnam dance is done

Night Fantasies

Night Fantasies - As moonlight blankets us in passion

Crystallized moon beams
Fractured light of endless desire
Shimmer around you as our eyes meet
Beneath a canopy of hazy luminance
Pearl buttons glisten as fingers touch
Your smile grants permission
Leaving me breathless

Serenity of the night serenades
Our hearts beat in silent yearnings
Lips find your flesh pure
Your neck sweet of perfumed nectar
A sultry sigh floats wispily to the misty heavens
As we sit entwined neath barren branch silhouettes
Exploring each other amidst swirling winds

A foggy shroud lingers silently
Desolate this rendezvous, hidden hillside
Your dark cloak drapes me, floating quietly
Mysterious against this crushed velvet sky
As beauty falls like summer rain,
Drenching my sight with you
Entering the realm of my longings

A full moon stares down
Happily enchanted by our movements
As the slumbering horizon beckons
And still I gaze upward at your charm
“I love you” I sough, feeling every pulsation of affection
Blissfully seeking the depth of the evening
You peer down through hypnotic lashes

Harmonic moans sing in a sensual duet
Echoing through tree lined shadows
Increasing in tempo, you fall to my lips
Tongues dance to the melodic rapture
Fevered vibrations rhythmically sway
Clutching my arms, arching auras lift
Your hair like chocolate ribbons flowing

A shooting star trails your breathless sighs
Euphoric fuses ignite within, exploding
Illuminating your smile, your face
I rush to meet you, simultaneous sensations
Quivering stardust ecstasy shines
Collapsing into my loving arms
As moonlight blankets us in passion

// This is my tribute to the many blessings that music brings to our
lives. I know many of you share this enthusiasm and gratitude. //

Appreciating an amazing artform: allegro, andante, or adagio -
Bach, Beethoven, Brahms: beautiful berceuse, ballad, and bolero
Classical concertos and Christmas chorales crescendo concordantly
Dancers delight to dizzying drums and delectable dynamics
Ensemble eloquently emotes euphonic etudes and elegies
Flautist fluttertongues flute in frenzied fantasia or fantastic fugue
Guitar gallivants through gavotte, graced by glockenspiel glissandos
Heavenly hymns, happily harmonized, hearkening hearty hallelujahs
Improvising instruments inspiring in impromptu inventions,
Jovial jazz juxtaposition of jubilant, jamming jitterbugs
Kalimba keeps count as keyboardist kinetically caresses keys
Love song lullabys - lilting, legato lines of luxuriant, longing lyrics
Minuet melodies and madrigals marking mellifluous motifs
Nutcracker's necklace of nourishing notes: a nighttime nocturne
Orchestra's opulent overture opus, oratorio's operatic octet
Pianist plays presto pianissimo pitches in pulsing pizzicato perfection
Quartets and quintets on a quest for quality quiescent quarter notes
Romantic rhapsody rhythms resonate as rock 'n roll reverberates
Symphonies and sonatas send spine shivers, saxophone solos soar
Tenor troubadours tremolo in tempo as trumpet thrills with trills
Utopia of unassuming ukuleles unwinding in unison
Voluptuous violin vibrato, virtuoso vocalist, vivace vintage vibraphone
Well-tempered woodwinds wield wonderful waltzes worth whistling
Xylophone eXudes eXcitement in eXquisite eXtemporaneity
Yearning for youthfulness, you yodel "Yesterday"
Zesty zither anyone?

Song's End

Song’s End

Every heart beating
Keeps time to a song
A story to tell
Set to it’s own music.
If only we will listen
There is so much to hear:
It begins with birth
In its innocence
In a song of discovery
So many wondrous things
A song that tells of dreams
While still crawling to a walk.
The song may lack maturity
At this stage
But it makes up for that
With sheer volume.
From there the songs change
In tempo and quality
Some become chaotic
While some define peace
Some send out cries for help
While others contain hope
Some sing songs of wisdom
But some of morbid destruction.
Throughout this world
There are many songs
Simultaneously playing
So many in fact,
That it is hard
To hear each song.
But there is One
Who was listening
Even at song’s end
Oh God how I wonder
About each song
That one who was so young
Whose song of innocence
Or those older that sang
Of love and wisdom
Was ended so quickly
Because of the music
Of selfish ambition
Silencing another’s beat
Here on earth forever.
My God why oh why
Would someone choose
Such a horrible sound
And make it their own?
Oh Lord you give us:
The beat,
The passion,
The instruments,
And such awesome direction
Why don’t we all just follow
Your loving lead,
Making heavenly music together?
And allow our songs
To gently fade into the twilight
That befalls us all
That leads into the new dawn
Lord, as I continue to sing
The song of this heart
I must move to make
Your music mine
And delight in your lyrics
In the rest of my day.
Help me oh Lord
To hear others songs
And let the beat
Of my heart be yours
For dear Jesus
None of us know
What time today
There will be
Song’s end.

Page of Obscurity

If I wrote it all down, would you know it?
Could you see what I want you to see?

Would you think me a clown or a Poet?
If the words flowed in tempo from me?

If I showed you my soul would you wear it?
You should know what I'm trying to be

Would you care it was me if you knew it?
If I looked you in the eye would you see?

If I hand you my heart could you hold it?
You should see it drip into obscurity

(chorus)
drawn on the page of obscurity
gone from age of what was you and me
drowned in the depths of eternity
turn another page of hostility
drawn from the pages of obscurity

of obscurity

If I sang it out loud, would you hear it?
Could you hear the song inside of me?

Would you think me a fool and deny it?
If the words were a melody of me?

If I shout in anger, would you bear it?
You who screams another’s destiny

Would you share my love or just ignore it?
If I gave would you give it back to me?

If I took love away would you know it?
You should feel it fade into obscurity

(chorus)
drawn on the page of obscurity
gone from age of what was you and me
drowned in the depths of eternity
turn the next page of impurity
drawn from the pages of obscurity

of obscurity

drawn on the page of obscurity
gone from age of what was you and me
drowned in the depths of enternity
turn the last page of impurity
drawn from the pages of obscurity

from obscurity

In the Shade of Love

~

Crystallized moon beams,
fractured light of endless desires
shimmer on you as our eyes meet
beneath a canopy of gemstone brilliance
Pearl buttons glisten as fingers touch
and your smile grants permission,
leaving me breathless

Serenity of the night serenades
our hearts in silent yearnings
Your skin, sweet of perfumed nectar
scents the evening in aromatic siftings
A sultry sigh floats wispily to the heavens
as we lay entwined on feathery grass
exploring each other amidst whispering winds

City lights twinkle, reflections on the bay,
unaware of our love, our moment
Leaves trickle to earth like tiny wings
as I gaze upon your silhouette,
mysterious against this velvet sky
Still beauty falls like summer rain
drenching my sight with you

A full moon stares down smiling,
happily enchanted by our movements
The distant horizon mirrors us,
lingering upward at your charm,
feeling every pulsation of affection
Blissfully seeking deeper meaning as
you gaze down in hypnotic peering

Harmonic exhales sing in a sensual duet,
echoing through tree lined vistas
Increasing in tempo, you fall to my lips
dampened by melodic rapture
Fevered vibrations rhythmically sway,
while constellations dance,
effervescent patterns on an ebony abyss

A shooting star trails your murmured gasp,
comets collide within, intensely exploding,
illuminating our endless dreams
Simultaneous sensations glisten,
ecstasy quivers in stardust sprinkling
on our hearts as the evening blushes
in the shade of love

dollars dance ...

in the eyes of angels
plates at the ends of pews
passed strategically in tempo
to burnish words
(even more strategic)
pretty sheep
buttered and wagging
like the smooth tongue at the podium
not to follow rags, you see
no barefoot bums or
carny clowns -
shed the weight of the hapless and
hopeless when you carry that lot
to the curb
(twist-tie atop)
THIS way is straight -
narrow
only the chosen
only the few - the committed
the well-dressed and well-connected
those shorn await a fiery furnace -
a hole, hellish
but ...
be not concerned -
we scrub YOU clean at the door
washed white by the blood of your bank
and ponied properly in beemers
and Humvees
we wipe you clean by the gilded
garments of your conscience
and shine a light that's
nearly His ...
(nearly)
don't fret that, either, child
it's all about how it MANIFESTS
not how it's written
(true, He had but His clothes and
His skin, but do you think He'd
dare show up today without an iPhone??
Heaven forbid - there are needs!)
besides ...
sheep have to be fed
and that takes a golden calf
or three ...
so,
sing along, children
and rejoice
raise your praises to the earth
and should it not suffice, we've got
you covered …
for there's no heavenly choir
quite as angelic
as the music sung by that ...

jingling plate.

African Dance

Drink at the table of men the wine
Tapped from the palm tree so divine
Release the ashimu inside of you
Let your body vibrate to the secret rhythm of Odu
Egu the gallant one in the land
Vibrating furiously yet lovely as the white sand
Move by the sea shore in gait
Hip twisting and acting like a hunters bait
The wind acknowledges his movement
For a pattern of life it represents at that moment

Let the owl blow his sacred trumpet
That shakens the heart and weakens the knee like a trinket
Let the forest come alive in the dead night
The animals’ eyes guiding them like a torchlight
Fire is come from beneath the earth
Illuminating the trees and casting shadows like death
The feeble in mind is left at home
For to go you must contain only bone

Hear the sound of the drums
The gay shouts of the flute in forms
The backing of the kacha-kacha
The wonderful melody of the skirt of rafter
Idu the greatest paces up and down
His muscle twitching upsetting his flowing gown
His toes digging the sands ready to pounce
Pounce he did but in a bounce

The spirits are ascended from the bowels
The ryhtm have increased in tempo
The shaking of sweaty skins has created wells
Ground dug with foot but like a hoe
Omachile the great surpasses all
His steps gazelle like and his shoulder tall
The earth bows to his frame
And yes…. He lives with the fame

Red Shoes

In a whimsical world of witty wonder,
Where laughter lingers, lost not in thunder,
There danced a dandy with a dapper flair,
Sporting red shoes, a vivid vision, rare.

He pranced in patterns, a playful sprite,
His heels clicking, a rhythmic delight,
With every step, a spark would ignite,
A fiery frolic in the soft silver light.

"Fickle feet, with a flamboyant beat,
Wherever you frolic, you'll never admit defeat,"
He chuckled in tempo, his spirits alight,
A crimson carousel in the pale moonlight.

The shoes, they whispered of wild escapades,
Of jaunts and jamborees in sunny glades,
With alliterative antics, they'd gladly regale,
A tapestry of tales, a merry mirthful trail.

"Gallivanting goofs, you garner grins,
With every jig, the joy never ends,"
He jested with glee, his heart aflutter,
As red shoes shimmied, in a boisterous banter.

Through the town he'd twirl, a torrent of cheer,
A jovial jester, no jinx could come near,
For in those red shoes, he found his due mirth,
A boundless bonanza, a celebration of birth.

So, let's raise a toast to the red shoe revue,
Where humor and heart in harmony brew,
And in every step, let laughter ensue,
For life's too short to wear shoes so blue.

"Deep Duet"

When I write I feel my fingers tapping keys

In my mind they are stroking black notes and ivory

You are sitting with me

Place your warm hands on mine

“Metronome”, you whisper

Warm breath on my neck close behind

“But there are rules”, I say

I lean back into you

Time to move in tempo

We are deep duet

He colours my world

Love Notes

Sharp

Accidentals

White and Black

(Lovejoy-Burton/April 2018)

"Love is like playing the piano, first you must learn to play by the rules, then you must forget the rules and play from your heart".

"An accidental, in music theory, is a musical notation that is used to raise or lower the pitch of a note. There are a handful of accidentals - sharps, flats, naturals, double sharps, and double flats. In piano, when an accidental precedes a note, it tells the pianist to play a different note from the original."
