I remember when YOU were little
On the newspaper YOU did piddle
Puppy, Nicky-Nic could do it all
He would fetch a stick or catch a ball
I remember with a voice command
You would roll over, speak, sit or stand
YOU were by my side at work or play
My faithful companion, night and day
Swimming in the cool, clear mountain lakes
Romping through the snow, catching snowflakes
Springtime garden, Nick would till the ground
Jumping in the leave's multi-hued mound
My companion for eleven years
For my best friend, I shed many tears
Good-by Nicky-Nic Until again we meet
When I find solace, YOU laying at my feet
Dedicated To my Puppy " NICKY-NIC "

The little town is eternal or seems so as I come back to trace
my childhood down these sidewalks. Each house holds
faded memories yet, creeps back into my mind until once
again I live the mystic solitude of my youth. Those echoes start
to stir within me. I hear it in the mocking-bird’s song, the musical
notes that my youthful ears must have heard, and still rings in the trees.
From the songs of birds, I start my visit to the past, both joy and pain
Into my youth. On this day a curious man, trying to get close to the
THROUGH CAUTION TO WIND, of a boy. The boy and his bare feet
with a sling- shot hanging from a back pocket, the love of nature in his
heart and pent up energy busting loose.
I was that boy, roaming the streets and fields beyond. It is that boy that
whispers to me now, creeping up to my ear to let me live it again.
He sings to me in my solitude, a song with a thousand notes, all in
adventure, it is he that sings to me now. “Do you remember when we
were we together?”
“Do you remember our good times?”
“We were together then,” he whispered to me.
Yes, I remember, for I treasure every note.
More than once I trod down these streets and over the railroad tracks,
more than once I felt that hot summer breeze on my face,
more than once I saw that delta moon go down through the trees and
heard the cricket’s call.
He runs ahead of me pointing to the old church that I attended as a boy,
so many years ago. He awakens my own song, a sweet song of
old friends, some passed. This old church that traced my steps through
Vietnam, bringing me strength and comfort through the little bulletins
that brought me closer to home, if only for a little while.
The boy wipes a tear from my cheek, for his questions are ill timed,
but I have heard, him.
Now, at this moment, I am back for a thousand echoes are within me,
never to die. I was that boy and he whispers to me the words to our
song. He calls to me from the shadow of a big oak and from the
grassy fields with sights and sounds from the past. He blends himself
Into the shadows as I recall the shapes of old buildings and memories
flood my mind, things I nearly forgot. He frolics with me for old times
until I must leave. Now, as I say “Good-by” I hear him whisper the words
to our song, he whispers his farewell.
The other day my cousin Mabel
She said to me
Mike I ain't never seen
Nothing before like your poetry
Cuz, you need to be famous
We're going to take this on the road
We're going to knock down some doors
We're going to make some heads explode
She said I know this feller
He's going to do good by you
He's one of them there agents of sorts
He'll put you in the news
Right then and there she called up Bubba
Who believe me, didn't come cheap
Wanting all the money up front
If he was to represent me
So I handed over all my doe
And now that's where we are
On a whirlwind of a tour
Of America's Super Wal-Marts
He even had me a bunch
Of my poetry books printed out
I think that they're in English
But I still have my doubts
That's okay cause most here
Prefer not to read
And Bubba had his kid draw in some pictures
Which seems about all they need
They ask if I'm famous
I come back with a lie
Ever hear of Jeff Foxworthy?
Well I know that guy
That's when the book sales took off
Like history in the making
I told Bubba to buy his son more crayons
We're going to need more illustrations
Yes this being a famous poet
Seems to really suit me
Tomorrow we're going to set up a stand
Outside of Denny's
We'll be hitting the breakfast crowd
Right on up through lunch
So move over fame your in my spot
Just call it a hunch

now i have been forgotten
sun goes also deep sleep
not to be remembered
you speak to me and i can't
hear you
why does this feel so comfortable
stuck in the dark so pitiful
fleeting thoughts never stop
i'm still alone , in this mind
as i walk this lonely road
starry eyed girls swing their wings
beckoning me to come and join them
washed in the pale light of night
the resistance is against the sun too
blocked by no thought instant drama
wasted hours , cemetery relapse
all comes from the dead
forever longing of the morning
even if a storm comes it would
be a change
frightened and isolated in this train
of thought
believing if i could fly i would
so nothing matters on this side of day
good by to night is what i say
What have you given that I've taken away?
A mixture of pain like feelings that twist.
Once we experienced, feeling's of heaven.
We were childlike and happy, yes even glad-hearted.
But our love like the wind it drifted away.
Seen through my eye's a vision of lies,
thoughts followed rain and I followed love.
Love left unburied, reborn left to die.
In a cloud burst of honey and yellow sunshine,
A thick blanket of snow made a white bed for you. swimming by her
and after swimming to far
by luck their upon her,
I came,
she with another and both.
Building castles from sand
was she,
not with the other, instead.
A monument to some mountain
a forgotten ,
or from her deep heart need.
She sculpted
with her own two hands.
Speaking and still she could
as i watched,
her other turning over, to me.
There are roses everywhere, my child
Yet, you should be careful of the thorns they carry.
There is sunshine everywhere, my child.
If you only learn to look through the clouds.
It rains on mountains and fields alike, my child.
Yet, there are deserts and droughts.
There is fear of God in everyone, my child.
Yet, there are felons and fraudsters.
There is love all around you, my child.
Yet, you should feel the one that's straight from heart.
Money can't buy everything, my child.
Yet, you will see that money rules you, me, the king and the slave.
There is happiness everywhere, my child.
Yet, you should learn to figure out the happiness within you.
Every human is good by nature, my child.
Yet, you should master the demons dancing in them.
You can run as far as you can, my child.
Yet, you should watch your step in every turn you take.
There are problems everyday, my child.
Yet, you shouldn't rant about troubles, rather talk about solutions.
Come my child, come into this world soon.
I'm waiting for you with all my heart.
I will not teach you anything, my child
Go, explore, learn and grow!
I'll watch you and caution you at times.
But the world is all yours, my child.
Make it your home.
There must be more than stars out there
Blinded by the light inside the cave
Small fires burn to keep the people safe
Hunched over men use finger paints
Maps and wild beast are drawn on walls
The hunt begins at morning by the moon
Stones and sticks are fashioned to a point
Weapons of choice carved from imagination
Primal people create devices to stay alive
To save the tribe from hunger pain
Poisons lurk in many of the hidden plants
Women pray to mushroom gods for knowledge
As they gather berries and fungus from the ground
Hairy men grunt and kiss the wife good-by
Going off to hunt might not seem glamorous
In fact it’s primitive. It is survival.
Life is given up to chance
It’s not always pretty but it’s a living
To David
The day that I met you it was a surprise
to meet at the rest stop on a late Saturday.
I knew we were good by the look in your eyes
hearing without you even having to say.
You worry there is someone else in the wings
who may someday take your place in my life.
Deep down I hope your big heart only sings
with the faintest idea that I might be your wife.
Being together has been a great gift
that God gave us both to enjoy.
I see it but only as my sorrow does lift
Knowing you are a sensitive boy.
I look to the future with more joy than my pains
Knowing that our love will never feel any strains.
TAKE ME FOR ME.
I KNOW MY WEAKNESSES
I KNOW MY STRENGTH
I KNOW I'M COMPLEX
I KNOW MY DEEDS ARE COMPLICATED
I KNOW I COULD BE CONTROVERSIAL AT TIMES
BUT...
I KNOW HOW TO HANDLE MYSELF
I KNOW WEN TO STRIKE
I KNOW WHEN TO STOP
THIS IS ME, JUST ME
IF U HAVE PROBLEM WITH ME
YOU JUST NEED TO LEARN TO UNDERSTAND ME
IF YOU CANNOT
IT IS YOUR FAULT, NOT MINE
FRIENDSHIP ISN'T ABOUT CHANGING ME TO YOU
IT IS ABOUT ACCEPTING ME FOR ME LEARNING TO UNDERSTANDING HOW YOU CAN GET ALONG WITH ME.
IF YOU AREN'T OK WITH MY WAY
DO US GOOD BY CUTTING THE CORD. SO THAT THERE WONT BE A BAD BLOOD BETWEEN US.
