Quote: “A man, after he has brushed off the dust and chips of his life, will have left only the hard, clean questions: Was it good or was it evil? Have I done well — or ill?” — John Steinbeck, East of Eden
In the desert of my days I wander,
the sun’s brittle crown upon cracked earth.
Dust drifts like old regrets between my steps,
and the horizon yawns — unforgiving and still.
Then the sea-storm rises inside me, roaring,
salt-heavy waves lash at the fragile dunes of hope.
A thunder-gulf within the ribcage demands its toll,
and I stand, drenched, amid the wreckage of decisions.
When the storm recedes, the desert lies hollow again,
wind-scrubbed, bare of consolation, shimmering in regret.
I ask the hard question beneath the pale, empty sky:
Was it good—or evil? Have I done well—or ill?
My country is the beautiful sun
My country is not the hard winter
My country is an often green Eden
Always languid and tropical at dawn.
It’s a country where the crowing of roosters
Revives everybody every morning
It’s a country furnished with filthy slush and rocks
Where nature is a vast and miserable garden.
It's a country full of horrid stories
Where slaves and decent people are revolted
Against greedy settlers and bloody buccaneers
It’s where only macabre memories exist.
In this awful and morose atmosphere
Where I banter all that is negative
I will build positive monuments
I will dream and recite fables.
My country is the moonlight
Which gives hope and strength to fight
Against masked and zombified
Bogeymen. Oh! God, I hold no grudges.
My country is the ever positive imagination
Presently, I don't want to denounce anyone
However, I will silence the chiming bells
Oh! It's sad to see my people on the exodus
Near the evacuative shores.
P.S. Gilles Vigneault, this poem is
For you and our people.

They spread beauty and fragrance
For the sake of it
Expect nothing in return
Friendly with the thorns
They live in grace and peace
And fade with joy
Apropos no motive
They live life for living
Nothing comes, nothing goes
Continuity pervades
Plucked and tweaked
Merge with all and never whine
Rain, sun and chill
Spring, autumn and snow
Embrace all and come again
Beyond reason and doubt
Share the nature and fate
with flavor and fullness
Full of joy, never in haste
With eternity, filling the hearts
Exuberance, innocence and poise
Blending frailty with strength
With vibrance and color
Through sunshine and clouds
Enjoying the rocks and falls
With leaves and boughs
Free from weary of time
Emitting serenity and hope
With benign and blissful heart
Turning earth into Eden
Rising from the buds
O flower! I wish you adieu
Waiting for another year
I find myself foraging, basket in hand
among the cocoa harvests of distant lands.
You ask patiently: what do you need?
As you speak a shaft of light crashes
like a Chinese paratrooper
through the store’s skylight.
The ray pieces high-stacked shelves,
beams upon a huddle of overweight shoppers,
flashes briefly, illuminating brimful spandex,
The light dances over that look you have,
and I suddenly understand
that while our bodies don’t so often
pound love into speaking flames –
nevertheless, I still want only you,
not cut-price plastic hole fillers,
nor anything blue, green or yellow
seen on a T.V. in aisle 3,
not even toffee.
Here in this warehouse of hope
we have again blundered into our reality
the way Adam and Eve must have
in that other overstocked Eden,
and how like Adam ever since,
I sometimes blow you off
to pursue a pack of beer
on sale in aisle twenty-two.
A ferocious storm battering outside
heavy winds howling a wolf
angry breaths pelting rain bullets hurl
whistling apple of these eyes
dreaming inside the howling moans
feeling your caress deeply touching
away our souls in another world kissing
mist falling down weeping inside
dreaming always with you by my side
A deep sigh of pain yearning loves voice
distant tears weeping from the heart and soul
floating with light into another world
blinded by everything one sees
queen off the rainbows mist
through lashes bouquet colors
sensing many emotions deeply felt
crying happy crying sad crying glad
dreaming always with you by my side

And older man, I am, in my seventies, aye,
Decided to have me some fun about as good as a glass of rye,
So casting fate to the wind, out of the shower, naked did I run.
To grab my puppy's tail in the gleaming, December morning sun.
I scampered and I, like Adam, fresh out of the Garden Of Eden
chased him.
After all, nobody saw Catholic me...'twas no mortal sin!
Alas and alack, puppy slipped on a rug!
Maybe not a rational or good idea on any dog's tail to tug?
That's a game for irrational four year olds,
Not for an elderly man with skin tags and fleshy folds!
Puppy slipped on a rug, it flew at me!
Then, I slipped, too...oh, such irony after victory,
One part of my story, I left outl
I feel badly and the news will not,,,,thus I want to shout!
'twas no puppy that I was chasing,
But a full grown Rotweiller hound!
Next time I better use another story that's sound!
I can...but only a TelePrompter helps me!
Now where can my Dominion tin crown be?

Violence against women is simply unacceptable.
God created men and women to love dearly one another,
To enjoy each other until the end of the last hour,
until the end of time. It is sad and despicable;
It is awful and terrible for men to abuse women,
To sell them like cheap hot cakes, to take advantage
Of them, and to use so much force and rage
Against the most beautiful creatures in Eden.
Only cowards would mistreat the women and the flowers
Of the paradise that God took the time to create.
Allah in Heaven! God, who can decide the fate
Of humanity, protect all who find themselves in front of the barrels
Of violence, of misery and of unthinkable discrimination;
Wise up the men who are lost and misguided in the shuffle of time;
Use your almighty power and strength to eradicate crime;
And force men and women to love one another again in action,
In deeds, in words, in gestures, and of course in spirit.
Men and women were created to love each other without guilt.

God wants every ear to hear,
He’ll wipe out every tear,
brought on by painful outcry,
over loved ones who die.
When on earth His will is done,
under rule of His son,
what is now will pass away
and love we’ll reign each day.
Then those in the dust will rise
and be offered life’s prize
upon an earthly Eden,
free from shackles of sin.
If these things you want to see,
seek the truth that sets free
and serve the God Almighty
for all eternity.
Based on Revelation21:3-5
“Look! The tent of God is with mankind, and he will reside with them, and they will be his people. And God himself will be with them. ?And he will wipe out every tear from their eyes, and death will be no more, neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain be anymore. The former things have passed away.” ?And the One seated on the throne said: “Look! I am making all things new.” Also he says: “Write, for these words are faithful and true.”
