Eine Kleine Nachtmusik

I keep a notebook on the nightstand,
pencil at hand – life-rafts for thoughts.
A flock of dream-crows take off all at once,
the clatter of their wings
a whole symphony played in just one moment.

Grandmother would speak in her Highland tongue;
sounds lyrical and melodic. As a child
I just listened not deciphering or even thinking,
absorbing only the sounds of her rhythmic brogue,
her Celtic chimes.

Mozart leaps up from a nocturnal reverie
stumbles around lighting candles,
lays his sleepy forehead on a keyboard
endeavors to recall a certain harmonic
overheard as the trills of Pipistrelle bats.

When my head swings from the pillow
I cannot find the pencil.
Mind mutely watches a cappella words
wander away from their musical roots,
silence falls out of nowhere into nowhere.

I carried your trunk on my back to the train,
Then waited for you to return in the rain.
But when you got home, honey, what did I gain?
Eine kleine nothin'!

I wrote you a tune, dear, to try to convey
The depth of my love in a lyrical way.
And after you heard it, well, what did you say?
Eine kleine nothin'!

I swallowed my pride and got down on the floor,
Then crawled on my belly 'cause you wanted more.
And what did I earn, babe, for each nasty chore?
Eine kleine nothin'!

So this is the deal, darlin', this is the plan,
I've packed my piano and loaded the van.
And what will you hear when you call for your man?

Dann sagte Er heirate mich,

Die Narzisse - the Narcissus

Ich fand eine kleine Narzisse
Die dacht‘ sie wär‘ eine Rose
Bezaubert von ihrer Einfalt
nahm ich sie mit nach Hause
Sie war glücklich
So bin ich

Die Narzisse steht in der Vase
in voller Blütenpracht
Ich habe sie gegossen
und vor mir gestellt
Sie ist glücklich
So bin ich

Die Sonne scheint auf sie
reflektiert in meine Augen
Ich seh‘ ihre schöne Farben
und wurde dadurch blind
Sie ist glücklich
So bin ich

Dann stelle ich sie vor dem Spiegel
Sie ist an Wahrheit gestorben
So bin ich

----------------------------------------------------

I found a little narcissus
who thought she was a rose
endeared by her naivety
I took her home
She was happy
So was I

The narcissus stands in the vase
in full splendorous bloom
I watered her
placed her in front of me
She is happy
So am I

The sun shines on her
reflects into my eyes
I see her pretty colours
and thereby became blind
She is happy
So am I

Then I placed her in front of the mirror
She died of truth
So did I

Premium Member Eine Kleine Nachtmusic Or a Little Serenade

Is this Mozart's musical score
Or sonata of sounds I abhor?
I have a good ear
But I'd rather not hear
The loud notes composed when you snore
