I used to juggle children, grandchildren, pets, and a husband
On my head, under my arm, in the air, twirl, whirl, twist and shout
Not any more
I finally let my superwoman out…
She needed a break.
A relaxing, long, soaking bath
A rest, a pause and playtime too.
I gave away all of my Christmas decorations
Except one small tree
This put my clutter into other’s hands
Now I don’t have to spend three days decorating
and three days undecorating
I bet you are doing a lot of cooking and cleaning at Christmas someone said
No, I told her. I pay my grandchildren off, not to come.
What do you mean?
I give them their Christmas money before Black Thursday,
so they do not feel obligated to come.
Then I can paint, write poems, do what I want over winter break.
That is brilliant! She said.
I think so too. No more juggling.
Peace and quiet, a Christmas treat.

Shame, blame, love, longing in the air,
they mix play tricks on me it’s not fair;
Pulling my mind when it’s time to chill,
this juggling act is sometimes overkill;
Throwing faster than to a slow crawl
just then here come’s another ball;
Broad balancing display showcases
a new routine where moods trade places;
I’m spinning inside but still I stand
sifting through words til I find my brand;
An enduring game of toss and catch,
old feelings leave behind a new batch.

Egg Juggling Clown had no fear
He never dropped an egg, no never did.
Am I lying?
Why don’t you come watch.
Please. Be my guest. Please, do please.
Egg Juggling Clown is very near.
His juggling is high in the air, yes, it is my friend.
Am I lying?
Why don’t you come see.
We’re at the Circus at lot 23.

I am juggling machetes
There are rhinos on my toes
Raccoon and opossum are on the porch
Growling.
My teeth hurt my gums.
I am wishing they were gone.
A Mack Truck has come down my driveway
Or there is thundering outside
I don’t care which.
My toilet is perpetually making dripping sounds
Is this driving me any nuttier than I have been all week?
Who is coming to save me from this warped mind?
This mind that is afraid of her own closet?
An imagination that does not dare
Look under the bed?
Where is my exotic, inspired, dangerously handsome super hero?
Why am I the one who brings the meat to the potlucks?
I am juggling machetes and there are rhinos on my toes.

Juggling with kids is hard work
I mean, you two have so much energy
you too
I love it
But I can feel the pain in my
what are those muscles in my legs?
Tossing one kid to the next
like a pair of socks
bouncing balls so far we have to find them
running
As we laugh at every toss, every miss
again and again I hear a giggle
another giggle, sometimes a "sorry!"
there is nothing to be sorry about
I'm in shoes, she's in socks
pretty socks at that
D's socks we throw at each other
are Deirdra's too
Liam's bare foot
is tough enough to stand agains the wall
Your laughs, our laughs
at every toss and catch
one two
ev'ry 5 seconds
for an hour maybe more
adds up to hundreds or thousands
of laughs, giggles, I'm sorries
and I hope for many more

and
and
now for
my next
trick i
will not
one nor two
but three
yes you
heard that
right folks
three
i will
simultaneously write
three
poems not one
at a time
but at
the same
time reminding you
i once did
while dumbly staring
at work
write a fugue

If life's giving you trouble,
Last thing to do is to juggle.
The circuses' greatest master,
Made a performance disaster.
He was too old for the show,
But couldn't let go.
One throw went bad, then two, then three,
The audience thought, how bad can this be?
With each ball he'd drop,
The crowd thought he'd stop.
But he struggled bravely on,
As the drums drummed along.
The patrons picked up the beat, started to cheer,
The further he got, he lost all his fear.
His famous ten ring toss was his final thing,
Completed it perfectly, bowed in center ring.
Looked to the lights to give thanks and praise,
He'll remember the applause till his final days.
So on the journey of life no matter how old you are,
From collective compassion, you'll never be far.
Aging skills needn't be befuddling,
Go ahead, keep juggling while struggling.

The Earth the Moon entranced by the Sun
Moving together in harmony
Perfectly placed by the only One
I look to the sky and there I see
All the stars like jewels in the night sky
Moving together in harmony
Those who don't believe I wonder Why
So much beauty wherever I look
All the stars like jewels in the night sky
Some things cannot be found in a book
I use my eyes to take in God's show
So much beauty wherever I look
Cosmic juggling sky is a glow
A front row seat my pleasure tonight
I use my eyes to take in God's show
Thankful for this gift I feel delight
A front row seat my pleasure tonight
The Earth the moon entranced by the sun
Perfectly placed by the only One
This poem came to be as a result of Timothy Hicks
Writing a Juggling comment on one of my poems.
So I decided I would turn it into a poem. Thanks Timothy
you never know what will result inspiration.

Standing in a milk line you were
talking of depravity, of blood lines
and the breast enhancement.
A teenage fringe bomber wants
to sew the civil society and explodes
himself before the empty bakery.
A young gal throws her son
from the ninth floor and then jumps
to get the justice from indifferent god.
Can we talk and wash away our
guilt ? Crossing the river was
not enough, we need drinking water.
Bits of human flesh are plastered
on the walls. The death wears a
face of daddy to kill the times.
