Oh naive little actor,
to get into character you must research.
You must explore the motive,
you must understand the history. The story.
You’re too loud and too young to be me.

Make no mistake I can raise my voice,
but I detest classless static and noise.
You barely know me, I keep to myself.
So keep quiet. You bore me.
You’re like the rest. Talking blindly.

Oh walk on character,
you can’t star you don’t know the start.
Assumption is a balloon full of hot air.
Quiet, Your vapor wasn’t even there
in the early chapters.

Please don’t mistake your scrabbly role
it’s not a lead, you’re incidental.
Filler dialogue. That’s okay though,
 someone has to say it.

Oh you pliable entertainer
didn’t they ever tell you to READ?!
Every script has its start on paper.
You would be nowhere
if I didn’t put you there.

You’re like the rest. Talking blindly.
So keep quiet. You bore me.

Countless wrappers were strewn in the yard
and the sugar was kicking in hard.
All Hallow’s bequeath?
A new set of teeth
that would max out his dad’s credit card.

Incidental Catch

Incidental Catch
‘The catch of non-fish species’

At the town’s cusp, terraced homes blaze out.
The mill and the green jetty wane to abandoned garages.
Kept, like trophies, by the type of men who have love affairs
with themselves. I was met by an agricultural runoff -
where land intersects water, sky and rock.

Your image waded flat over the water that had slowed
to a few passive ripples. Your books snagged
under your paperback wrists, dead as granite.
In my single-handed grip, I cast my hook
over the shallow water’s shelf and reeled you in with the Trout.

I made sure that you’d see me. On my heels in mud
I shrank myself. Your tired old books still viced between your fingers.
I watched you squirm, thrashing the water to a paste.
And this is my lover I said to the briny tapestry of the sea,
as I bagged you for tea.

Incidental Story

Step softly over this silken knot;
Ease into this particular caress..
I have a story
Written slowly on cloth of gold..
The wrappings shimmer sightlessly
Around the nearest ornamental Diary.

And then, we wonder as we read
Who earns such gifts as nonchalonce..?
For effort lost we all expire
Into an alien heat
To find someone especially sacred.

Ending in historic settlement
Legitimized or notarized
As each becomes unrecognizable
With no one especially primal
In an overlong embrace...

But sacrificial relatives
Abound in every Storybook;
And your turn,
My cold young lover
Is waiting to be taken...

Write carefully.

Incidental Contact

Tattered pieces of time
Envelope my very soul
Awakened by the silence
As the tears began to flow

All those borrowed memories
Forever now returned
A perfect lover's serenade
Never to be learned

Just incidental contact
Is what was meant to be
Trading passing glances
For all eternity

Stolen hopes and dreams
For a future that didn't last
Shattered broken promises
Discarded to the past

I count the very heartbeats
That's spelling out your name
While looking for a reason
Or someone else to blame

A priceless hidden treasure
That none could count the cost
Cursed, without redemption
For the love that I have lost
