Out, out, brief candle—flicker, fade,
A tiny light in life’s grand parade.
For life’s but a wisp, a fleeting flare,
A moment’s breath in the cosmic air.

We light our candles, then they die,
In the blink of an eye, we sigh.
But what if life’s not a race to chase,
But simply a candle in a cluttered

again

the warmth

of sunshine

showered my being

awakening the inkwell of mind

overflowing in musing contemplations

of allegorical messages 

of a fertile womb

of mind seeking to inoculate 

others against infectious

lies of deceit

sowing apathtic seeds towards

empty scales of justice

and  plowing

that pandemic-abracadabra

oppressor syndrome

that we must uproot

in the awareness

of ancient poetic-tragedies

being a thing of the past

and that we must be even stronger

than

a brief visit

I sat trying to write
A poem of love
Yes, once Love hit me hard
I sensed someone 
Standing beside my chair
Yes, it was her
Twenty years had gone
She looked the same
She smiled with eyes of love
Then, she faded away

Perhaps such joy dwelled, nowhere at all,
Only pain could stir that brief, elusive call.

I love you, all of you
The you inside you
Every inch, every ounce
The very essence of you
I want it all.

Twenty Brief Springs

Take advantage of those non enduring things,
they are similar in swiftness to evanescent time:
it's the cleverest thief stealing your last dime,
who saves in an amber jar copper pennies?

Does youth only last for twenty brief springs?
Staring into the clearest mirror simply deceives:
that smooth face will no longer glow with beauty,
fine lines and wrinkles could appear after

A Brief Encounter

He sneaked his way into the Lecture 
Hall like a thief,
His greetings were brief,
Glancing around the room with a friendly 
smile, he then rested a long gaze upon 
her face,
She felt uneasy and thought he might
be in the wrong place.

A while later, he boldly slipped a note 
into her hand, with a one-eyed wink,
Reading it

Hollow

A soul in constant war,  
Ever pondering, ever sore.  
Fighting battles it cannot flee,  
A being trapped in purgatory.  
What it longs for, just out of reach,  
Peace forever beyond its speech.  
Why must the raven find no rest,  
Why brief calm, never blessed?  
Only to be

I once ordered my pencil
“Write me a poem”
My eraser is missing
And I’m all alone

The pencils were kept 
in a box made of leather
a major step up
from the days of the feather

then came the ink pen
with blotters and blobs
pocket protectors
for multi-pen snobs

next was the ball point
so smooth and so slick
to calm school day angst
with their click-click-click-click

now

A Brief Guide To My Jaw Harp

percussively
I think my way as rhythm 
over cloud peaked tops
mountain points like metered dots
and on them stand and pluck, oh see
my breath transcends eternity

introspect
I aim my gewgaw outwardly 
to a passing world
and yet it seems I’m not as bold
it searches inward with effect
I am my own play’s architect

meditate
a friend who soothes 
who heals at home

did our brief time together 
continue in your heart
did it go beyond time lost and 
enter into the void as a reality
can you now reach out and touch it
bring it back as though it were alive
have the years dulled the once expectations
and excitements of our affair

im not asking for eternal moments of memories
or hardened

A Brief History of the Snake

   The snake sidles up to Eve
     from God she soon seeks reprieve

   With us yet, it slithers into Halls of Power
     injects venom ~ brave leaders cower
