Illumes Poems

Did We Exist Before We Were Born

Did I exist before I came—
To Time’s reluctant Door—
Or was I but a voiceless Name—
In Silence—evermore?

The cradle of a Nothing vast—
Where neither Breath nor Form—
No Heart to quicken—nor to fast—
No Memory—to warm.

Yet here—I stand—amid the Grass—
The Moon—observes my stay—
She lifts her Lantern as I pass—
And will—when I—decay.

If Death returns me to that Place—
That hollow, unbegun—
I must bestow—while in the Race—
Some kindness—til it’s done.

Compassion—like a secret Fire—
Illumes the darkened air—
Empathy—becomes the Choir—
Where none—may yet Despair.

The Sky receives my trembling Word—
It vanishes—like Rain—
But Love once uttered—will be heard—
Beyond the mortal Plain.

So let me weigh my brief Estate—
As Stars record my Breath—
And make my Living adequate—
To justify my Death.

My Fair Lady

O, fairest of ladies, you shall shine so bright,
A radiant star, that illumes in the night,
Your heart, a wellspring of compassion,
With gentle kindness, to all who suffer pain.

You are an angel, in mortal guise,
Always gracious to your peers, and those of your juniors,
Your kindness, like a beacon, will shine so bold,
Illuminating paths, for hearts that grow cold.

Your tears, fair lady, do fall like summer's rain,
For those who walk in darkness, and in sorrow's pain,
Your heart, a deep well, of goodness it contain,
And in your noble spirit, a brighter world will reign.

One day, my lady, your noble dreams shall come to pass,
And this fair world, shall be a better place, at last.

Luna

At dusk in her belight she appears,
She smiles 'oh'her smile like silk, her smile which illumes,
My eyes stumble for her beauty,
She invests her gift to my land 'oh'so surreal,

She comes a nigh yet she's afar,
Her touch so real as it is an illusion,
She gives a light in guidance to a lonely man,
Her glades leaves his gaze abstracted as it is clear,

Her silver star like gift which shines even the darkest of faces,
In her ryhthmic visit,
To always lead,

Alas I sigh,as she descends back to her abode,
Leaving me in wonder,
"When can I see you again".

Happy 93rd Birthday Mom

June twenty-four mom's ninety-third birthday,
No candles or cakes except the bouquet,

Flowers for her and no banquet setting,
Just keepin' it plain -- no scene and fretting,

Illumes shed true we've aged, noted we've grown,
Blooms laid neath her imaged rosette gravestone.

An empty space,filled by light
brings simplicity to life,
the empty heart,fills with pain,
cries out why,again,again,
and still the emptiness remains;
Simplicity forgotten
in complexity will drown,
darkness overwhelms the mind,
despair see nought,with eyes blind;
light fills up the empty space
and illumes the vacant place,
hope blots out disappointment
as our emptiness relents.

Singularity brings forth clarity
on which imagination then flies free.

EKPHRASIS ENTERS

Light to light which illumes

as colour fills our eyes and enters

our mood.To trigger stark sensations

colour floats on white,yellow

blue and red in parallel luminous

blocks.This conceptual mirror

meticulous,yet of the common

place, a still life set free in

pervading symbols of the night.

The senses merge to become a

MONOKU SEQUENCE #A
a perambulator arrives - emptiness takes its leave
                                          .
a quietness descends - fresher term opens
                                          .
room-to-let sign illumes - emptiness returns

Ghostly presence seen nightly
When lighthouse illumes brightly
Fishermen claim to see her
Confounded old tars concur

Her lover swallowed at sea
by fierce waves, old tars agree
Lighthouse beam, sailors concur
Was gone, not even a blur
