Young pines plucked from a meadow
do not go without a fight;
If you listen, you can hear
the taproot groan, underground and out of sight.
Woodland critters mourn the loss
of their habitat now gone.
But not all got the memo:
dancing in the open space, a spotted fawn.

Rat-a-tat and pit-a-pat!
‘Pon my word!
Pit-a-pat and rat-a-tat!
It’s a bird –
A woodpecker knocking!
Loudest I’ve heard!
His noise shocking!.
Thrashing the habitat.
His visage mocking.
Please don’t think that I can’t see you
As I’ve got the most incredible eyes
Which move independently from each other
Although I’m known as a master of disguise!
I reside with my family in Madagascar
In rain forests where I live up a tree
I can change colour when I want to
So I’ll blend so you may not see me!
I adore eating lots of tasty insects
I catch them when I shoot out my tongue
It can project twice the length of my body
I’m very proud of my proboscis so long!
I am very adept at tree climbing
My prehensile tail acts as a fifth limb
I’m so lucky to live high up in the trees
My forest habitat is my very own gym!
Bonsai is an art of cultivating miniature potted plants
Away from the natural habitat and normal growth
It's modified to create an art
Its stems are twisted and turned
It's roots are surfaced
They can't stretch far
It's leaves are trimmed
They flourish mostly at the top
An old plant usually looks like a young sapling
And maybe a dwarf
An artificial modification
Appreciated and admired by many
But freedom of the plant is then overlooked
Luckily unlike man, plant has no soul
Frogs, crickets and toads
playing, jumping together
swamp pond habitat
a
long
fragile
spidery
silver threadlike street
crossing in nature's G.P.S.
like those swinging bridges in gentle wafting breezes
temporary avenues to more hospitable environmental habitat

bare and treeless hills
just like my pockets
after the paid bills
Feelings numb
Thoughts blank
Meditation
Or not
Lost in woods
Wildfires
Growth without mires
Nothingness
A space of possibilities
Collective consciousness
To unite and ignite
Bright minds
Through poetry
At first sight
In my mind and yours
From a world
Beyond habitat
Indian Elephants are listed as, endangered
They are a cultural icon, in India and throughout Asia
traveling migratory routes, while eating grasses, bark, leaves and roots
to maintain the integrity of their habitat, that gives them prosperity
Indian Elephants, spend up to 19 hours feeding a day
with a production of about, 220 pounds of dun per day
traveling 125 square miles, spreading seeds that germinate
as this is what Mother Nature needs, is for them to migrate
Humans greed their land, because of increasing populations
and it forces elephants, to seek alternative food solutions
It splits their groups, so they can’t herd with other troops
on their ancient home, because humans have built a dome
There are protected areas, that have illegal encroachments
as they clear forests, for roads and human developments
Poaching doesn’t help, as tusks only grow on male elephants
and the middle-class fuel the demand, for the black-market
Chimpanzees are listed as, endangered
and have already disappeared, from four countries
Their habitat is in amazing forests, of central Africa
and they spend a lot of their days, high up in the trees
When chimps are grounded, they travel on all fours
but they can walk on two legs, for a mile with no sores
They use a stick, to fish termites out of a mound
and drink water, by bunching leaves from the ground
Chimpanzees can live, for more than fifty years
and are very social, nurturing their young for many years
They are our closest cousins, with 98% of our genes
so let us have respect, for our ancestral prime mates
The Ebola disease, has killed tens of thousands
and poaching for bushmeat, is to feed rich residents
Infant Chimpanzees, are caught and sold as pets
as the greed of money, sends all life down the dunny
Blue Whales are listed as, endangered
and are found in Chile, Gulf of California and the Coral Triangle
They are the largest animal on the planet, weighing tons of nearly 200
and they need to digest four tons of krill, every day they wrangle
Blue Whales are the loudest animals, on our Planet Earth
and their low frequency whistle, can be heard for hundreds of miles
The Blue Whales heart is not modest, to a small cars’ magnet girth
but their look of a giant missile, has not scared their gentle profiles
Blue Whales have an important role, in the health of marine environment
but their threats by environmental change, from the human development
and habitat loss, toxics, ship strikes and being entangled in fishing gear
and climate change impacting all, has only strangled our atmosphere
Bengal Tigers are listed as, endangered
and are found in India, Bangladesh, Nepal, Bhutan and Myanmar
Their habitat is, tropical and dry forests, mangroves and grasslands
but this wildcat has historical assists, of their ancestral homelands
Bengal Tigers are the National Animal of India, a cultural symbol
but the hunting of them for trophies, and to use in Chinese medicine
and unethical habitat destruction, is an act, of a detrimental criminal
as we are becoming a species, that doesn’t have, humane discipline
Andean Mountain Cats are listed as, endangered
and are found in, Peru, Bolivia, Chile and Argentina
They inhabit arid to semi-arid areas, in the Andes Mountains
and their thick fur and long tail, helps them prevail on their trail
Their range is so inhospitable and remote, for humans to study
but humans hunt them for their fur, because of the greed of money
Other threats are loss of habitat, and the hunting of their main prey
of Mountain Viscachas and Chinchillas, has made their life so gray
African Wild Dogs are listed as, endangered
and they are also known as, the African Painted Dog
They are found in the South, and South East Africa
and they inhabit, forests, grasslands and deserts
Wild Dogs like to gather socially, in packs of around ten individuals
but this doesn’t help, when they catch diseases of distemper and rabies
They are threatened with targeting killing, by those human criminals
and habitat loss of their prey, from expanding human activities
Iberian Lynx’s are listed as, critically endangered
and are related to the Eurasian Lynx, and are about half their size
They are only found, in the southern areas of Spain
and their habitat is forest woodlands, which is their natural domain
Their threats are, habitat loss for human development
of dams, agriculture, plantations, highways and railways
and a deadly disease, that has killed their main prey
along with humans hunting rabbits, that depletes their habitat
