Grizzly Poems

Premium MemberStark in Glacier Park

We planned for cycling in Northern Montana
Me, Marvin, Louis, and Anna
I had doubts about them, though they were healthy
For Anna could never resist a selfie
Marvin couldn't plan, Louis attracted disaster
Mainly because he always had to go faster.
Me, my only problem was I'm slightly bats
and guiding these guys was like herding cats.

We flew in with our

Such singing and dancing!
Hardy harly har har
We are winging and prancing
At the grizzly bear bar

The bears are all sleeping
For it is February, so they hibernate
In March we will be scattering,
So we don’t end up on their plate

chill howls
slit needles
from firs
and steer whimsy puffs
to shade the moon
like accordion blinds

summer's last
dying gasps
just below the treeline

snippity
snap dragon
spits sparks
in the dark

doesn't threaten me
but don't want to be
run down by a grizzly
or chased by a moose

just want to be
here with Groot
and 400 Conejos*

you know
all those stone circles in Scotland

Premium MemberDiva Duck Dances For a Grizzly Bear

Diva duck has shiny blue swinging hair
Smooth and silky, arranged with great care.
We watch her fling her flipper feet in the air.
She is being watched by a burly grizzly bear.

He says what kind of human is she? Is she good to eat?
Smacking his lips now, he says “I need a holiday treat.”
We get out of

Premium MemberGrizzly Bear Takes Advice From Robin

a grizzly bear had never looked so sincere
I hid in the woods, trying not to shake my rear
the robin was clearly in charge that day
coaching the bear, in the kindest way

luckily I speak bird so I understood his tweet
he said you have to soft-speak her, you must be sweet
no female wants you to act like

Premium MemberGrizzly Bear Family

The tiny roly poly proud brown baby bear
Ate a delicious pink pear on a double dare.
It was from his big bossy brother, to be fair.
Which is something that is kind of rare.

The same mommy they do not share.
They have the same dad though, I swear
He’s a grizzly who wears large blue underwear
Don’t worry he also

Premium MemberGrisly Grizzly Bear

The Brown Grizzly Bear is so called,
not for its grizzled hair, grey-tipped
but because it is truly grisly, horrible!
(Ursus arctos horribilis)
This brown bear is gruesome and deplorable.

The amber Pizzly Bear is so called,
not for its swizzle stick.
but because it is a hybrid bear,
a Polar-Grizzly cross,
(Ursus maritimus × Ursus arctos)

The ash-grey Koala Bear is

Premium MemberYou Are Supposed To Play Dead

She came charging down on me with her full weight.
I wanted to be invisible, but it did not happen.
I was gripped tightly in the throes of death.
She was tearing me apart, in pieces

Unconcerned with my screams.
I was quiet now, smeary, a bloody mess.
A carcass in pieces. I watched horrified.
Worried about what my Cub Scout troop

Premium MemberPlay Dead Are You Crazy

The grizzly bear came at me, snorting and screeching.
Until this second, I did not know that they screeched.
I knew to run was not the way. I had been warned.
They love to chase their prey before they eat it.

Play dead! A voice in my head said.
What? Are you crazy? I looked at the trees.
None of

Premium MemberWaiting For the Right Photograph

I waited all morning for some kind of wildlife to come near enough for a shot.
My Nikon camera was set on her tripod, and I had been purveying the woods
I felt moose staring at me and I thought if I can just get one great photo of it,
It would complete the wildlife spread for the

Premium MemberThe Grizzly

A grizzly isn't really, as bad as he's made out
He wanders round the parklands, when no humans are about
But there are times of course, we meet him in his home
We can't blame him for being there, it is on his land we roam

Open up your tent flap, and see the big brown bear
Close it quickly

Premium MemberJazzy Tantalizing Rainbow Hair Grizzly Bear

There was a tantalizing grizzly bear
Who had a sparkling glow and rainbow hair
It was really difficult not to stare
For she was jazzier than the state fair

No one dressed like her except on a dare
She had two make up stations in her lair
Some thought she should wear earrings by the pair
Her ensembles were always pretty rare

Some

Premium MemberWho Is Endangered

A grizzly bear? Oh, my, oh, me.
Certain death if one you do see!
Can I outrun or climb a tree?
I’m not as fast with this giant knee.

Endangered species, humans you say?
Misunderstood, I had it the wrong way.
The grizzlies are the ones endangered today?
I wish I could find one. Come out to play!

Premium MemberThe Great Spirit Grizzly Bear

I call upon the Great Spirit Grizzly Bear,
who rules over all grizzly bears in this area.
I will be an uninvited guest in your territory,
I'm just passing through, my stay is temporary.
I mean none of your children any harm, so please don't harm me.
I will make a lot of noise constantly,
to let your children know that
